Theresa May has begun the process of Britain leaving the European Union. This raises the question of the rights of EU nationals presently living in Britain, who make a huge contribution to our society. The government has refused to guarantee these rights, saying it will wait until there is a deal involving British nationals who live in the rest of Europe. But people are not bargaining chips. The government’s attitude means terrible insecurity for EU nationals and their families. EU nationals who have come to live or work or study in Britain should have their rights guaranteed now —full rights, indefinitely. Anything else means that at least some people will be forcibly removed from Britain, families torn apart, valuable workers lost and there will be even more restrictions on those who are allowed to stay. Already any EU national applying for proof of residency must now show they have been living and working in Britain for the past five years. They are required to provide documents for every occasion they have left Britain in that period. Those who have not been working must reportedly show they took out comprehensive health insurance—a requirement that was little known until recently. The government’s refusal to grant workers’ rights is already hitting key services. Only 96 nurses joined the NHS from other European nations in December 2016 – a drop from 1,304 in July that year. This comes at a time when there are 24,000 nurse vacancies unfilled and the government’s withdrawal of bursaries for trainee nurses is making matters worse. The government must guarantee EU nationals full rights now. The government must confirm their right to stay in the UK with guaranteed rights now.

Recognise this brave man's sacrifice on behalf of freedom and democracy. PC Keith Palmer tragically died, tackling the terrorist who attacked Parliament. He may fade from the headlines in the weeks and months to come, but renaming the gate after him will be a lasting tribute to someone who acted to protect all of us. This wasn't just a man doing his job, when Keith was called upon he took the decision to stand up for all of us, he went forward rather than running backwards. Renaming the gate at Parliament would cost nothing, but the gesture and memory of British bobby Keith Palmer's bravery will last for hundreds of years.

Important to be done in recognition of PC Palmer's selfless, and heroic act, in confronting the armed terrorist, and protecting the security of Parliament, of Democracy, and the freedoms of this great country. For this, for us, he paid with his life. Keith Palmer must be the first person in over 300yrs to die in the line of duty, directly protecting from attack, the Palace of Westminster, the seat of Government, the seat of our democracy. RIP PC Keith Palmer, and thank you.

He deserves it

There are no facilities (shops, Cafes or Doctors Surgeries) on Lake View PHP estate and none planned for the foreseeable future resulting in residents having to drive to Weldon to access vital services. Children also have to cross the busy A43 to catch the school buses and pedestrians risk life and limb keeping fit. This leaves communities isolated.

People will know how many hours they are working and how much wages they will receive, so they can budget efficiently

For most people in the UK, a full time job is a 35-42 hour per week position, and to get a full time salary it is expected that this work is completed. However, we clearly have MPs undertaking additional work that means that it is impossible that they are fulfilling the hours required to justify a full time MPs salary. With wages stagnating, 0 hour contracts becoming a reality for thousands of workers, increasing budget cuts and a recent rise in the annual salary of MPs, it is unjustifiable that so many are abdicating their duties, and subcontracting their workload to their staff and interns (also paid for by the tax payer). We need a full audit of the time MPs spend undertaking their roles vs. other commercial enterprises in order to relieve the tax burden on many millions of UK citizens. If an MP cannot demonstrate that they are committing full time hours to their role, they should be paid, pro-rata, based on the hours they can justify.

There is a climate of fear and insecurity in all areas of employment this, opportunistic, cynical attempt to off-set costs will add to that. Furthermore, workers should not be given a double penalty: lost wages plus the burden of paying for cover while they are sick. No businesses should feel this is an acceptable response. This is a chance for the government to demonstrate a modicum of support for struggling workers.

The playgrounds in Gwalia Crescent, Parc Y Werin and Pontybrenin have all seen better days and are not enough for our area. Playing out in the fresh air is important part of our children's development and makes a big difference to their health and their happiness - nothing can be more important than that.

The homeless crisis in Brighton is shocking. With the rising cost of living and rent hikes in the area homelessness has visibly increased. There are people living in shop doorways on almost every street and alley way. They are begging for money for food with absolutely no way out of their situation. It is virtually impossible to get a job when you are homeless and in offering the homeless a home we give them a second chance at life. A chance to get a job and live with the dignity and respect we all deserve.

Claire says, "This is important because the people using these facilities are the friends and family of people from our community. With the amount of housing being built this problem can only get worse and it is our parents and grandparents who will be the ones to suffer. "The most vulnerable in our society deserve the best care and facilities that we are able to provide. The care provided by Eskgreen and The Hollies is second to none but they provide that care in spite of the chronic under investment made by our council and government."

Issuing statements like this is nothing short of catastrophic! and just yet another excuse for war at the hands of two dictatorships. The mentality of the North Korean leadership would most likely see this as a threat, plunging the world into World War 3! The UK Government should make it perfectly clear, this is not acceptable behaviour, and that diplomatic steps WILL be taken should this barbaric action continue. It's time other countries stood up to the USA as sovereign nations in their own right, even though they are allies.
