• Sack George Osborne
George Osbourne is clearly out for his own ends and is not acting in the best interests of the people. Its time for him to go, before he does any further damage.

  • David Cameron, call a referendum on further austerity
Many of the working poor, sick and disabled are on a knife-edge as to whether they lose their homes, can continue working, end up in hospital, breakdown, die or commit suicide. The DWP have been fighting the figures for deaths of those found 'fit to work'. The media typically don't report the plight of the working poor or those needing benefits (in or out of work). Councils are given more and more responsibility so that their spending power looks good when they cry out about cuts. The government cuts-back the funding before handing over responsibility. Councils then have to hurt their residents. The people must be given a choice. If Greeks can do it, so can the Brits.

  • Add Tunisia Terror Incident to Government Compensation Scheme
Many involved with the incident in Tunisia will have suffered financial issues far greater than the level of payment offered by the Tourist agents/Travel agents. Many will need assistance with ongoing medical costs, counselling & therapy, other expenses. Holiday insurance does not cover acts of terrorism. To date the majority of those affected were British Citizens and should be supported by the British government to recover from the effects of this horrendous act both physically and mentally.

  • Free medication for people with Parkinson's
My drugs are my lifeline. Without them I would have no movement at all. So why should I have to pay? Prescription charges for Parkinson's: England. Charge Scotland. Free Wales. Free Ireland. Free There are numerous medical conditions whereas you qualify for free prescriptions unfortunately if you reside in England and suffer from Parkinson's then this is not considered as one of these conditions! Some medicines you can only get by prescription, usually from your GP. In England each prescribed item currently costs £8.20. Prescription charges were abolished in Wales in 2007, in Northern Ireland in 2010 and in Scotland in 2011. Why are there varying standards across the country? I believe that all people with Parkinson's and other long-term conditions should be exempt from prescription charges wherever they live in the UK. Medication is extremely important in helping people with Parkinson's manage their symptoms and continue to lead independent lives. People with Parkinson's are often required to pay multiple prescription charges, due to the number of medications prescribed for the management of a wide range of symptoms. A list of conditions that qualify for exemption from prescription charges does exist in England but has barely changed since its creation in 1968, despite significant medical and technological changes. Particularly concerned about the additional financial hardship that charges present for younger people with Parkinson's. For example, the income rules on free prescriptions can mean those on incapacity benefits still have to pay for prescription charges. If people can't afford their prescribed medication their symptoms may get worse. And this may lead to a greater cost to health and social services. This is a campaign for a Prescription Charges Coalition to ensure people with all long-term conditions – including Parkinson’s – are exempt from prescription charges, wherever they live in the UK

  • Save Wythenshawe Hospital's General Surgery
The proposed move of these services will have a detrimental effect to the people of South Manchester. Consultants and medical staff have raised their concerns over the new proposal and believe that it will have a knock on effect to the care provided in A&E and also other areas of the hospital such as Maternity and paediatrics, cardiothoracics and heart transplant. My son was treated at Wythenshawe hospital for a ruptured appendix by the general surgeons had this service not been available we would have had to wait for a transfer to the MRI by ambulance which would have been life threatening to him. As someone who uses these services and lives in the surrounding area it is vital that these services are kept at wythenshawe hospital keeping the health and safety of the people of South Manchester and Trafford at the forefront. Would you like to go to an A&E department only to be told your life threatening condition could not be treated there and you would have to wait to be transferred to a different hospital? I wouldn't ! People of South Manchester we have until the 15th July to voice our concerns when the Healthier Together Programme will either reject or comission this proposal ! Please sign and share to fight for our hospital

  • Dont cut housing benefit until you can provide enough affordable housing for those who are in need
There are many people forced into renting in the private sector by local councils because they don't have enough social housing to provide them with a secure, affordable home, now Mr Cameron wants to cut housing benefit which is sure to hit these people the hardest, force them back into the homeless system which then again puts pressure on local councils to provide social housing which there just simply isn't enough of! So what then? Local slums? Stuck in B & B's? Ot back into tge unaffordable private sector? Its a un thought through situation and utterly rediculous

  • Official Recognition for our Veterans
Imagine being asked to lay your life on the line for your Country, now imagine being given no option to do otherwise, this was the case for many of our National Servicemen. Imagine further being forced to stand and watch Nuclear explosions, without the knowledge it would cause you and your families serious medical issues and often death. Imagine you and your family running the risk of being shot or blown up every day, not in a war zone but here in the UK by PIRA just for wanting to defend our fellow countrymen. I’ll not ask you to imagine dozens of other scenarios our armed forces were asked to perform as part of their ‘normal duties’. You haven’t been asked to because others before us have done so for generations. They have previously asked for nothing in return, but we think they deserve an official symbol of this country’s gratitude. This sounds like something any government would want to do doesn’t it? After all Her Majesty has already authorised similar recognition for our Kin in Australia and New Zealand. But Hang on, this governments says absolutely not!! This doesn’t sound like something that could possibly happen in Britain in 2015. But for our Veterans reaching the twilight of their life see a Country that has forgotten these selfless acts of loyalty and duty in maintaining the freedoms we enjoy today. The scandal of a recent medal review has been swept under a carpet and kept out of the public domain with Freedom of Information acts being rejected in order to protect a Government which openly sneers at our brave Veterans. Official documents will not be released, why? Sign the petition now to make sure that the Cabinet Office and MOD hears our message: stop ignoring our veterans contribution and issue an NDM. Please click here to add your name: Wherever you stand on our Armed Forces, treating our veterans in such a shabby and disrespectful way is not the decency mark of a civilised society. 38 Degrees members stand for fairness, and we work together to make Britain a more compassionate place. Fighting for recognition for our forgotten Veterans and against the appalling treatment of those most willing to protect our freedoms will help create the kind of Britain we want to see. This is an issue of great National importance as it reflects the way in which our country values and recognises the commitment of those young men and women who keep our country safe and free. It takes into account the unique circumstances of serving in the armed forces, the loss of a high level of personal freedom, the inherent risk of being a member of the armed forces, being subject to Military law and the commitment of the individual to put country before self. It recognised and honours both those who serve now and will serve in the future and those who have served, been injured, maimed and killed in the line of duty regardless of when or where that duty took place. Can you sign the petition now to give our veterans the recognition they deserve.

  • Leave us alone!
Carers save the nation billions of pounds every year by looking after friends and relatives. They give up jobs, money and their personal lives to do this for no pay. The disabled cannot always work. No-one wants to employ people who may have to take a lot of time off sick or for hospital appointments. The poorest people in our country are getting poorer. Why? Because this Government wants to cut their supply line, along with the disabled and carers. We need to stand up for ourselves and each other. We need to stay alive. As an unemployable disabled carer, this latest round of cuts announced impacts on me in all three directions. Where will I be this time next year? Who knows?

  • Save Oxfordshire's Children's Centres!
Andrew Smith MP sums it up brilliantly: “It would be socially damaging and a false economy if more children and young people are held back in deprivation and troubled lives as a result, because the long term human and economic costs of that are huge.” Please do not shut our childrens' centres, they are invaluable resources in our troubled times, and to remove them will cause even more suffering and hardship for those already most in need. The council has agreed to reduce its £16m budget for children’s centres and early intervention hubs by 2018. It is part of savings of £284m planned, but Councillors say more may be needed in the face of further Government cuts expected next year. (source:Oxford Mail, 16th June 2015.)

  • The DWP to release figures relating to the cost of bringing in Universal Credit
Before the 2015 General Election, the National Audit Office (NAO), asked the DWP to release the costs of introducing Universal Credit. The DWP, needless to say, refused. The NAO then asked a judge to ask the DWP to release the figures. Again, they refused saying that they had to stay under lock and key until after the General Election.. The people of this country need to know the cost of implementing this benefit.
