• Keep Chesterfield in Derbyshire
DEMOCRACY - Chesterfield is a key Derbyshire town& gateway to the Derbyshire Peak District. Has strong connections to neighbours NE Derbyshire and Bolsover District Councils and of course Derbyshire County Council and key player in the East Midlands. However the Leader of the CBC has promoted the town linking with Sheffiels and South Yorkshire in a major shift of allegiances in services and investment. This has/is being pushed through without full Community Engagement and the Labour controlled Council voted in favour with out Labour Councillors having a free vote. This has been a total misrepresentation of the will of the people and Parliament must step in and stop this happening. I ask all both local residents and people from the wider UK to show that Council Leaders can't just push this through without a local peoples referendum.

  • Ethical Business Standards Scale - Campaign for Legislation
This EBSS will illustrate in coloured graphic form how 'ethical' the business is (similar to colour-coded nutrition labels on the front of food packaging*). The 'ethical' rating will be determined by a set of standards (similar to Shelter's 'Living Home Standard') designed to give workers fair rights: * Minimum term/secure contracts for workers * Sick pay for workers * 28 days paid holiday for workers * Minimum/living wage adherence etc. (precise standards can be agreed upon) * Health & Safety certificates * Diverse workforce Furthermore, the business will receive minus points for: * Employees hired via agencies long term * Zero hours contracts * No holiday or sick pay * Short term contracts * High-profit margins * Tax evasion * High turnover of shareholders * Off-shore headquarters * Minimal tax payments to countries which products are sold in The tally of these points will form their 'Ethical Business Rating', along with other considerations whcih can be drafted as this idea gets implemented (such as charity, profit-sharing, continued professional development, etc.). Of course there will be cases where businesses will inherently have a low 'ethical' rating, because of the short term nature of that particular business. This is an acceptable stigmatisation, and consumers will understand in these cases (just as they understand but still occasionally opt for unhealthy foods with high red nutrition warnings as a treat). The EBSS will encourage ethical business which, in turn, will be more beneficial to UK citizens as it will improve their employment standards and such their standard of living. Businessess will be stigmatised (by a hopefully discerning public) for rating low on the EBSS chart, and therefore will be encouraged to run their businesses more ethically. The desired outcome is to get Secretary of State for Business to discuss it in parliament, and perhaps even bring about the creation of legislation to make EBSS mandatory by UK law, so that UK businesses have to use the scale to apply and publish their ethical rating (according to the standards stipulated). (*as per the The Food Information Regulations 2014 & European Food Information to Consumers Regulation No 1169/2011).

  • Allow Boys To Join The Guide Movement
Both genders should be equal. We shouldn't be showing such blatant gender discrimination to any age group, especially children. There should be equality for all genders, even within the scout and guide movement. Since 2007 girls have officially been able to join the Scout Association, a movement traditionally for boys. So why can't we have equality within both movements? It's an archaic rule that discriminates based purely on gender and has no place in the 21st century. The times are changing, and the Guide Movement needs to realise that. Some boys would feel more comfortable at a Guiding Group than at a Scout Group and it's wrong to discriminate against them. If you believe in gender equality and extending it to our youth, please sign.

  • Mental Health Support for 18+
There is limited support for young people, 18+, who have mental health issues in the UK. I care about this issue so much as I've seen it effect others around me and also myself. I myself benefit from CAHMS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) as it gives me a place to go and share my problems in a controlled, calm and comfortable environment. Losing this service would have a very negative impact on my life as well as others as 18 is not the age where people find closure to the problems they have experienced in their life involving mental health. 18 is when people leave school and are released into work. People become adults and that brings along with it stress, this stress is why people 18+ need CAHMS as they don't know how to cope. This can lead to suicidal thoughts and also suicidal actions. Please sign this petition and lets help young people get the support they need! You could be saving a life!

  • Rename Flushable Wipes
Many things get accidently put down the toilet but these wipes are designed to be flushed away. However, they do not dissolve in water like paper does. They end up being removed from our sewers by the water companies. They are causing damage to the environment and causing blockages of our sewers. This damage costs thousands of pounds to clear. Only three things should go down your toilet, pee, poo and paper. Although flushable wipes will go down the toilet, the water companies then claim they block sewers and if a sewer cant be cleared, the water companies use an emergency action which can send sewerage directly into our water courses. This leads to damage to the environment. Although all these companies claim their products will disperse in water, it has been shown in tests that they do not, even after being subjected to tests which emulate 10 years in moving water.

  • Improve local shopping centre
It has not had much money spent on it since the 1960's and is under utilised . Just down the road is open land where a school used to be, that could even be used to relocate The Square or the market stalls that have been coming once a month. I think it would bring a sense of community pride and improve the landscape of Netherton because at the moment it looks tired and old.

  • Get Kaye Adams off Radio Scotland.
The BBC licence payers are paying for a phone in programme which Kaye Adams runs as her personnel programme for her views, and passes her views on the listeners comments. Her programme about the Alleged Ched Evans rape case was ill conceived and for Kaye Adams to ask, “Someone might say what kind of woman wants to be in a hotel room blind drunk, making themselves vulnerable?”, is unforgivable and should have had her removed instantly from the BBC. Is she still on the BBC because it is run by people who think that way about women.

  • Support Native Americans Fighting for their Lives Sovereign Rights and our Planet against Big Oil
The largest gathering of Native Americans in history is under way as people from indigenous communities across the Americas and the world unite with the Standing Rock Sioux tribe to fight to protect the environment and ultimately their lives from the scourge of the fossil fuel industry. The North Dakota access pipeline (NDAPL) having been moved from its originally proposed route near the capital Bismarck now violates treaty land and threatens a people who have already suffered unspeakable genocide, treachery and persecution spanning centuries. Virgil Taken Alive, Standing Rock Member affirms: “Of the many atrocities we as Native Americans have faced and overcame, this is one which will affect not only us but all of mankind. Earth is our mother. We have to protect her.” The fact is, since 2009 when domestic oil production began ramping up, “the annual number of significant accidents on oil and petroleum pipelines has shot up by almost 60 percent, roughly matching the rise in U.S. crude oil production…” Only two days before this petition was drafted a subsidiary of the DAPL pipeline in Pennsyvlvania dumped 55,000 gallons of gasoline into the Susquehanna River. Should it be allowed to continue the DAPL will cross over the Ogallala Aquifer (one of the largest aquifers in the world) and under the Missouri River twice (the longest river in the United States), the inevitable contamination of these water sources makes the Dakota Access pipeline a serious threat to humanity. It will threaten everything from farming and drinking water to entire ecosystems, wildlife and food sources. People all over the world are fighting back against fossil fuels and NODAPL is ground zero in the largest oil guzzling nation on earth. What happens here will reverberate around the world. We call to you join the struggle. Help spread the word. Make the politicians hear our voices and have good thoughts and prayers for those on the front lines. • Colchester - Axe the Housing Act
The Housing and Planning Act is a threat to all except the large landlords and developers making money from the housing crisis. Council, housing association and private tenants have a common interest in fighting the Act. So do local councils, housing associations, housing workers and trade unions. Those who are adequately housed themselves are concerned about where their children and grandchildren will live. The government wants to divide us, but we must unite to demand a decent housing future for all. One thing is certain: the Housing and Planning Act will make the housing crisis worse. There will be fewer truly affordable, secure, decent quality homes available for rent so, if they can’t afford to buy, more people will be forced into the unregulated private rented sector. The government dangles the dream of home-owning for all, but in reality it means the richest few buying up more homes, and renting them to the rest of us. This turns back the housing clock to the early 20th century when 90% of people in the UK rented privately. We mustn’t let this happen! THE HOUSING AND PLANNING ACT IS A THREAT TO US ALL! http://www.axethehousingact.org.uk

  • Ban The Importation And Sale Of Fur In Scotland
The raising of animals for their fur is a practice currently banned within the UK because of the cruelty involved. Many shops now import their fur from countries such as Russia, Finland and China where laws regarding animal welfare are far less strict than ours. Animals (among them raccoon, bear, fox, rabbit, cats, dogs and mink to name a few) in these countries are raised to suffer in intolerable conditions before being removed from overcrowded cages before being anally or vaginally electrocuted , strangled, gassed or drowned before having the skin ripped from them. Some of these animals are still alive when it happens. Could you imagine the pain of being skinned alive? Would you let your pet be skinned alive? If not, why do we allow other countries to do it for us in the name of vanity, greed and profit? This is the 21st Century where such barbarism is no longer tolerated. Many designers such as Stella McCartney produce wonderful faux fur products and many more are now moving away from real fur. While protesting the use of real fur I recently had the pleasure to speak to an older lady who said that the only fur coat she had had belonged to her deceased mother but that she would never wear it herself and would never sell it as it meant someone wearing an animal that did not ask to be killed. I can understand her keeping it as a sentimental object, though as her mother lived in a time when fur was deemed acceptable. It no longer is. My beloved country of Scotland has always prided itself on being compassionate (we were the first country in the UK to allow same-sex marriage, after all). Why can't we be the first in leading the way against the barbarism of fur? If the UK TRULY is a nation of animal lovers then let us be the leading light!
