• Lone child refugees at Camp Jungle
The French authorities are about to demolish the refugee camp in Calais, known as Camp Jungle. They are making alternative provisions for all refugees, including children with families. But there are up to 1000 lone child refugees who have nowhere to go. There is a high risk that these children will disappear, and potentially fall victims to exploitation. As a civilised society, we cannot allow this to happen. These children have not done anything wrong, and they have already lost so much. The French authorities are hoping that the UK will finally fulfill its promise to move them to the UK where many have relatives. David Cameron promised to take up to 3000 unaccompanied children. It is about time the UK government made good its promise to these most vulnerable members of the refugee community.

  • Refine the Merseyrail 'Feet on Seats' by-law
Although we acknowledge that the policy was designed to prevent antisocial behaviour, it is hard to ignore that many people (of many ages) are 'caught out' by the guards who choose to prosecute them for resting a foot/feet on the wide metal frames of the chairs. Often this will be a person who is against the wall of the train and thereby creating no obstruction to people wishing to sit, or in any way damaging the condition of the chair itself...they merely rest their leg on what is, to most, a convenient footstool-height piece of metal. This by-law currently appears to be a revenue-driver for Merseyrail that does little to protect or benefit the public, other than to make the 'victims' of prosecution feel unfairly like criminals and make onlookers emotionally uncomfortable at seeing a fellow traveller so harassed. I observed a 19 year old boy, travelling home to London after visiting his girlfriend, given a potential fine of £140 for having his left leg resting lightly on a chair-frame whilst he was on his phone...he was quiet, unobtrusive and the train was none the worse for this 'criminal act'...and yet for the sake of a weekend at his partner's home city we were going to risk charging him £140. We're asking that the company revise this by-law so that only those people with feet actually on the cushion/upholstery be at risk of prosecution. This will continue to act as a deterrent to anti-social behaviour, whilst allowing visitors to our city (and residents) to have some measure of leeway when being advised by railway security to remove their feet from the vicinity of chairs.

  • Make Middlesbrough More Wheelchair Friendly!
There are many in our community who have trouble walking or cannot walk at all and there are many places in Middlesbrough that do not cater enough for a wheelchair users needs. Please make Middlesbrough more wheelchair friendly so that those who are wheelchair bound have more freedom and independence! We need more ramps, lifts and easier access from street to building for these people, so this means in some cases we need bigger doors! Please sign and make this happen!

  • Music on the Piazza Margate
It gives the local businesses a boost, it's important for the economic growth of Margate as it brings in visitors who listen to the music and spend money. Live music in this area does have a positive economic affect to the area. Visitors come back for the music festivals - Soul Weekend, Jazz Weekend, Skagate and the Mods and Rockers weekend. This impacts on local businesses - food, drink, accommodation, retro shops, restaurants, cafes etc who only have a limited time to make the money between Easter and September and it is dependant on the weather.

  • Give Zaina Erhaim her passport back!
Zaina Erhaim, originally from Aleppo, has had her passport confiscated by officials at Heathrow at the request of the Assad government. 'Ms Erhaim has won international awards for courageous and ethical journalism and trained hundreds of citizen reporters, including many women, to report independently and accurately on the horrors of Syria’s six-year-long civil war before finally being forced to flee last year'. (Independent) If, like me, you are ashamed that our government is bending to the will of a brutal dictator, Bashar al-Assad, instead of defending this remarkable woman, then please sign this petition.

  • Stop poisoining our wheat
As wheat starts to turn farmers spray it to kill it off in doing so it takes in large amounts of chemical as a last effort to swell the grain. It seems that very many people are now developing a wheat intolerance and a growing rise in Irritable bowl syndrome and Krohns and stomach complaints. This wheat goes into our bread and is consumed by most of the population on a daily basis. It can not be good under any circumstances. You can't give animals medication just before their meat enters the food chain surely this must be the same.

  • Keep the Colwyn Bay Rat-Run CLOSED
The Council are at present improving the promenade between Victoria Pier and The Toad, in Colwyn Bay, Conwy. To carry out this work they have closed the road between those two points. The result is that a fairly large number of vehicles which usually use this road have to choose a different route. After a month of this it is clear that such traffic is readily carried by other roads in the town. Most importantly, the promenade is now vastly safer for pedestrian users and cyclists, who no longer have great difficulty safely crossing the road. Also the beachside atmosphere is far more relaxed. There is no disruption to using your car to drive to the beach from the East or from the West, the only change is that you have to return the way you came. For beach users this is ideal. Nowhere has access been denied and there is one community, who live in the Dingle, who now only have the option to leave their houses and drive East two minutes to access the local expressway (A55). The construction works on the Promenade are due to be completed in May 2017. I am hereby petitioning the Council to KEEP THE PROMENADE ROAD CLOSED
