Keep the Elm Avenue Stadium as a Sports Ground for local peopleThe Stadium at Elm Avenue should not be destroyed by property development as it is an sports area of rich historic significance for the people of Newark. In the past, the land has been passed over to local government ownership with a view to it remaining as a sports area for local people. There is little free-access or low-cost sports space in this town and this precious yet currently underused space is in demand. There are football teams and other local people who are keen to use this space but it has been governed in such a way that they could not afford to use it and so it has little use at present. This is a terrible shame as we need to encourage more grass-roots sport. If the Stadium space is built on, the local people will lose yet another area of green. As Newark is an area low social mobility and multiple studies have shown links between access to green-space and economic well-being, the local government should be doing everything in its power to protect any remaining green-space. In addition green areas are needed now more than ever to mitigate against climate change. Instead of removing urban green space, we need to protect and improve it, for example by adding further trees to the entrance to the site and thereby supplementing the few that exist already. Help us to first protect and then maintain this urban green area for current and future generations of Newark to enjoy.561 of 600 SignaturesCreated by Esther Cropper

Save Ruddington Teaching Assistant JobsJames Peacock School in Ruddington is proposing to make a significant number of its most experienced and highly-qualified teaching assistants redundant. The head teacher claims that cuts are needed to save money but there are other ways to solve the problem. Nevertheless, the School’s governors are being asked to approve damaging plans to target teaching assistants. Making teaching assistants redundant will cause long-lasting harm to children, to the school and to the Ruddington community. Those whose jobs are at risk have firm roots in the village and are well-known to children and parents having worked in the school for many years. Teaching assistants provide vital support, supporting teachers in managing class behaviour as well as ensuring children with special needs receive additional care and attention. Reducing the number of teaching assistants would deprive children of support and restrict teachers' ability to teach effectively. Not only are there other ways of balancing the School’s books, but it is likely that schools funding will increase over the next year. The government schools minister for England, Nick Gibb, has said that school funding will be a priority for the autumn spending review. Now is not the time to get rid of teaching assistants who are indispensable for the children and teachers of James Peacock.1,733 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Matt Mullany-Green

Stop forcing sexual assault survivors to hand in their phones in investigationsSurvivors of rape and sexual assault are being forced to hand over their phones and social media accounts to the police - or risk their attackers walking free. Instead of making sure victims and survivors are safe and supported, police want to pick apart years of text messages, photos and personal memories - making survivors feel as if they're the ones on trial. Key digital evidence could be given to police and disclosed in court without excessive phone downloads being taken that risk being used for fishing expeditions into victims' pasts. One woman has said: "My phone documents many of the most personal moments in my life and the thought of strangers combing through it, to try to use it against me, makes me feel like I'm being violated once again." The NPCC and CPS are already facing a backlash against the plans. If thousands of us sign this petition and add our voices, we can make sure they backtrack.37,911 of 40,000 SignaturesCreated by Big Brother Watch

Glyphosate (Round-up) Ban by uk CouncilsThousands and thousands of gallons of this potentially dangerous herbicide is ruining our towns the length and breadth of Britain. In a time of loosing something like 40 million birds and flying insects dropping some 70odd%. We are killing every wild flower on every grass verge, park path, walkway, council garden and road verge. This spraying is both destructive to our wildlife, costly at some £10.000 a year in renfrewshire alone as well as being a total eyesore. What environmental official endorses a product at such expense, potentially linked to cancer as well as leaving such a hideous sight, in the form of burnt brown grass? Our bees are already in such peril from lack of food. Dandelion is a vital source of food. What we desperately need is a campaign to change perceptions. A flower is a flower not a weed. We need as many as we can get if we are to save ourselves as well as our wild creatures.25,312 of 30,000 SignaturesCreated by Stephen McBride

Crail Raceway Speed and NoiseThe is important to the locals, the villagers, holidaymakers as well as the wildlife coming for the woodlands, the beach and a quiet place to live. Foolowing the letter about speed in last week's Crail Matters, I am giving people another chance to voice their feelings about this matter. In addition, many people have found the manager of the site unnessarily rude and confrontational for no apparent reason Simply go to this website and have your say: https://bit.ly/2PzUvYd If you are not online, give your name and postcode to me [email protected] Tracy Fryer17 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Margaret Fryer

Safe pedestrian crossing at Victoria Park, GlasgowThousands of school children, families with young children, pensioners and dog walkers regularly use this crossing to access Victoria Park especially at weekends and during morning and evening commutes which are also the busiest times for traffic. The junction itself has a confusing (even for drivers) double roundabout and several split filter lanes which carries a wide range of traffic including busses and lorries to the stadium. Pedestrians have little protection with narrow pedestrian islands at crossing points. As this junction is confusing drivers tend to focus on looking for vehicles and not pedestrians. Having been stuck with a pram and two young children on scooters on the narrow pedestrian island having cars drive past on either side it is extremely intimidating even for adults/parents. In addition to Victoria Park and Victoria Park Nature Trail the crossings here also provide vital pedestrian access to Scotstoun Sports Campus, Fossil Grove, St Paul's Primary School, St Thomas Aquinas Secondary School and Jordanhill School. Planning of this junction has effectively ignored pedestrians and the result is a dangerous and intimidating junction for everyone but particularly children. Glasgow City Council need to urgently rethink this junction for the benefit of everyone - not just those with cars.1,667 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Andy Watson

SAVE CLS FROM SHUTTING DOWNI study at the CLS college on Freeman st. Soon to be shut down in 3 months which is dramatically upsetting. So many pupils attend and they are very happy. Most people cannot attend a bigger setting. Unfortunately for some they cannot travel far or they can’t be in a bigger place. Helping in any way Would mean a lot for so many people and myself by fighting to keep it open. This place is a place that I actually can have my study as for many issues before hand. I can speak for many other students too. The college is so welcoming and very nice teachers and staff. There is plenty of students that everyone gets along with. We are a little community and would like as much help as we could possibly get. **In order to help, anyone that could contact this lady called Janet Goodwin. She can help fight, to keep it open. Her email is: [email protected] and her phone: Telephone: 07927494208.** No one should have too move to a different college because of the place shutting down. People are upset and would love it to stay open and to continue to work from there. Would be much appreciated if we can keep this place open and help give many students a place to learn and feel comfortable and get there qualifications they deserve. No one should have to loose there education because of something like this. Much help is appreciated. Students here are very keen to work and to build their futures. Moving to a different college will disturb to where they left off. This can lead them doing more time of college when it isn’t needed. Students have achieved so much and will continue doing so. Students feel safe and happy in the working environment, this is another reason why we are keen to keep this place open. We want to welcome more people and continue to keep this college open. Thank you very much for reading. Let’s keep this place open.1,059 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Laura Jasper

Stop the Arms Fair in NewhamThis September at ExCeL, International arms companies will meet up with military delegations from around the globe to show off the latest war technology. They are selling everything from bombs, drones, guns, warplanes, tanks, grenades as well as riot and restraint equipment. These weapons are sold at great profit to countries in conflict, authoritarian regimes and countries carrying out serious and well documented human rights offences. Many of these weapons will be used against civilians in non combat areas. DSEI (Defence and Security Equipment International) is one of the world’s biggest Arms Fairs. It is held every two years, at great expense to the UK taxpayer. It is opposed by people in the area and across the country, including opposition from the Mayor of Newham, the Mayor of London and local MP Lyn Brown.5,519 of 6,000 SignaturesCreated by Andy Newham

Replace McDonald's plastic toys with seeds and bee bombs for children to growMcDonald's sells over 1 Billion happy meals every year around the world. Included in these are hard plastic toys inside plastic packaging, millions going to landfill every year, especially in the western world. We need to educate our children that this fast, throw away attitude is killing the planet. Teach our children to love, nurture and grow. A packet of seeds and a biodegradable box that doubles as a tray - it's an easy solution to make the Happy Meal truly Happy for all! The environment wins. Bees win. Children's metal health is improved and planting seeds also encourages curiosity for their environment - huge win! Come on McDonalds - make this happen!333 of 400 SignaturesCreated by Melanie James

National Childbirth Trust to Reaffirm its Full Commitment to the WHO CodeThe WHO Code covers the marketing of all formula milks, bottles and teats (including dummies). It exists to protect all infants, to enable parents to make feeding decisions, free from commercial influence. There should be no product placement to parents and any marketing information or educational materials shared with pregnant women or mothers of infants and young children needs to comply with the code, in particular Articles 4.2 and 4.3 of the Code. This petition is in response to recent social media posts by NCT that show a clear breach of the Code and the CEO's failure to reassure Practitioners that NCT continues to fully adhere to the Code.713 of 800 SignaturesCreated by Simone Sawyer

Stop Kinder egg flooding us all with plastic toysWe need to cut back on plastic and reduce plastic pollution which is poisoning our oceans. These eggs are heavy on plastic which gets binned and goes to landfill. Most children lose interest in the ‘toy’ within minutes but the plastic is with us a lot longer!171 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Wendy Cliffe

Declare a Climate Emergency - OrkneyHumans have already caused irreversible climate change and ecological devastation. The impacts of which are being felt around the world. Global temperatures have already increased by 1.1 degree Celsius from pre-industrial levels. Atmospheric CO2 levels are above 400 parts per million (ppm). This far exceeds the 350ppm deemed to be a safe level for humanity and all the other species that we co-exist with and depend on; In order to reduce the chance of runaway global warming and limit the effects of climate breakdown, and ecocide, it is imperative that we as a species reduce our CO2e (carbon dioxide equivalent) emissions from their current 6.5 tonnes per person per year to 1 tonne as soon as possible, and live within the resource means of our planet.; Councils around the world are responding by declaring a ‘Climate Emergency’ and committing resources to address this emergency and Orkney is in a unique position to contribute to cutting emissions through its leading role in developing renewable energy. The full text of a motion that we will ask the Council to pass will be published on the Extinction Rebellion Facebook page.317 of 400 SignaturesCreated by George Vickers
