Pesticide Free BalernoEdinburgh City Council use pesticides for weed control on our streets, pavements, parks, playgrounds, around schools, cemeteries and green spaces. Pesticide use has multiple harmful effects on human and animal health and causes environmental pollution and degradation. The notorious chemical Glyphosate is used here in Edinburgh and has been linked to cancer in humans and animals (and has recently been in the news with landmark lawsuits in the USA with thousands more awaiting trial). Direct contact with any pesticide can cause acute short term health problems such as respiratory tract irritation, allergic sensitisation, nausea/vomiting/diarrhoea, seizures, headache and loss of consciousness. Children are more at risk than adults due to their age and also their behaviour, for example, investigating nature, crawling and playing on grass and spending time in areas such as playgrounds and parks where pesticides are used. Dogs and cats are particularly vulnerable too due to their close proximity to the ground. Pesticides have also been shown to have a damaging effect on bee populations and other pollinators which are currently in steep decline and need all the help they can get. Many other towns and cities across the world have made the decision to go pesticide-free, using methods such as hot-foam, flame weeding, scraping, acetic acid solution and accepting a certain level of ‘weediness’. In the UK, Glastonbury, Lewes, Wadebridge and some London Boroughs are pesticide-free, proving that it can be done. The residents of Cherrytree in Balerno petitioned the council successfully to stop applying Glyphosate in their area because of the health risks of chemical exposure. We therefore call on Edinburgh City Council to put an end to all pesticide use in all of Balerno, using safe alternatives instead, protecting our health and the health of our environment. Please also sign the petition to stop pesticide use across the whole of Edinburgh: https://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/pesticide-free-edinburgh589 of 600 SignaturesCreated by Jessica Windsor

Save The Railway Tavern In HensallThis is our village pub. It has a long and proud history. It has the potential to be a great asset to our community like many other pubs in neighbouring villages. It would be devastating to see it knocked down and turned into housing.293 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Tim Pinto

Litter Pick Grass Verges First Before Cutting ThemMowing grass before litter picking creates a whole host of problems for the environment and us, One single piece of litter cut into minute pieces, often dangerous as in shards of aluminum, glass, plastic. Affecting wildlife habitat, infants play areas, parks, dog walking areas etc who all are vulnerable to injury by this senseless act. These pieces are often washed into storm drains where they are carried out to sea to return to our beaches as micro plastics etc, eaten by fish then by us, polluting everywhere as they go. Litter is a big enough problem without accelerating it. Visually it’s an eyesore to the street scene. Should the grass be cut as often with nature’s pollen collectors struggling to exist, they need all the help we can give them. So it makes sence to me cut grass less and before doing so clear the area of litter, it’s not rocket science371 of 400 SignaturesCreated by Eric Brown

Say NO to Stobart's and Six/56WBC's planning department together with Stobart's, Langtree and Panattoni (all multi-national property and logistics companies) are determined to forever destroy 346,000m sq of South Warrington's Green Belt land. That's equivalent to 54 Wembleys. It will mean easily 2000 additional vehicular movements PER HOUR 365/24/7 on our already overloaded roads, junctions and surrounding motorways. Air pollution in Warrington is one of the worst in the UK. It is THE worst for the most dangerous small particulates (PM2.5) in the whole of the UK (World Health Organisation Air Quality Database, 2018). This is a legacy that we MUST NOT PASS ON to our children and future generations. RSWF will use this petition to hand over when each application comes before the DMC. Please sign this petition to make your objection clear and share widely. Thank you.2,240 of 3,000 SignaturesCreated by Rethinking South Warrington's Future RSWF

We need a Police Station in Cambridge City CentreCambridge needs a city centre base for our police officers to be able to walk and cycle from, with patrol cars to be able to quickly respond to an emergency situation. Our city is growing fast, and copes with seven million visitors each year already. We need to maintain a high level of police presence on our streets. An information point is simply not good enough.818 of 1,000 SignaturesCreated by Nicky Massey

Stop oil exploration in Cardigan Bay Marine SACCardigan bay Marine SAC is an important breeding and feeding area for bottle nose dolphins and harbour porpoises. An environmental impact assessment carried out by London based Orbis Energy has admitted that the proposed seismic activity would have detrimental consequences affecting all forms of wildlife including shellfish, marine mammals and seabirds as well as fish spawning grounds. Previous extensive seismic surveys have been conducted and have revealed no commercial quantities of hydrocarbons within the area and do not need to be repeated. If however there were any viable reserves discovered the extraction of such would cause irreparable damage to this sensitive marine area and the life it supports whilst making a mockery of the designation of a marine SAC. Equally at a time when Wales has declared a climate emergency to proceed with the extraction of more fossil fuels is sheer madness. If you have ever been fortunate enough to witness the bottlenose dolphins of Cardigan Bay you will understand the importance of protecting their precious habitat for future generations, if not I sincerely hope that you will be able to one day! Please sign and share this petition to ensure we can take it to the UK Government and overturn this reckless decision.7,499 of 8,000 SignaturesCreated by Steve Parkin

Stop Parking Charges for NHS staff at North Walsham Memorial Hospital.North Norfolk is a rural area and public transport links to and from North Walsham Memorial Hospital are poor so that the majority of NHS staff working at North Walsham have no choice other than to drive to get into work. Staff on the wards can do up to 12 hour shifts including night shifts and bank holidays and public transport doesn't run 24/7. Most community staff require their cars to do their jobs in the local community, visiting patients in their homes throughout the year come rain or shine. Forcing Nurses, Health Care Assistants, Therapists and Administration Staff to apply and pay for parking permits is therefore in effect an additional job tax which hardworking and dedicated NHS staff should not have to pay. We feel it is simply unfair and unjust.751 of 800 SignaturesCreated by Giancarlo Tolaini

Stop the deaths of 100,000 people by giving people in care the support they deserve.Every year more than 100,000 people die in care, that’s almost one person dying every 5 minutes. That’s someone’s Mum, Dad, Son, Daughter, Brother or Sister. Families are left devastated, often without answers and many are prevented from finding out what happened. The victims (and their families), many of whom have been forcibly imprisoned into care through NHS England’s 54 specialist mental health trusts, deserve better. Cases of misdiagnosis are common. Leading to life changing conditions such as PTSD for those trapped, forcibly drugged, threatened, assaulted by those responsible for their care and their inactions, often due to the many complex pressures of the job imposed by those at the highest levels. We are funding a new charitable trust: • Giving all patients the care they deserve. Ensuring cases of misdiagnosis are reduced by prioritising those needing care. • Independently review the unverified medical records, fabricated statements, false allegations & hearsay used to ‘section’ people (using the MHA). • Ultimately, drastically reduce the 100,000+ deaths (to realistic targets to be agreed). Change legislation to make it illegal to detain a person, without a thorough investigation to the allegations of poor mental health without first performing due diligence on their claims. • Develop the technologies needed to support a person through their care. Giving the person the ability to follow simple processes to challenge their detention and present their evidence clearly if they claim a misdiagnosis is being made. • Fully independent legal support to challenge the decisions and compensate victims of misdiagnosis or where their health further deteriorated or ended in their death. Further details here in the press: Denis Campbell for The Guardian on 27th Nov 2018 NHS to look into deaths of 100,000 mental health patients a year https://www.theguardian.com/society/2018/nov/27/nhs-deaths-mental-health-patients-england#QBAIN4 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Allister Frost

Sadiq Khan– Ban Hostmaker ads on TFLShort term lets are spreading across London, taking homes away from local renters, preventing people from living in the communities where they grew up, and pushing up rents. Hostmaker’s distasteful tube ad is undermining the Mayor of London’s plans to make housing affordable in London, by encouraging landlords to kick out their tenants to create holiday homes. We want the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, to ban Hostmaker ads from all Transport For London spaces Every day millions of people see these ads. Our Mayor-run transport infrastructure should be promoting organisations like Generation Rent and local renter unions, who are working to fix the housing crisis, rather than companies like Hostmaker who are actively making things worse.8,485 of 9,000 SignaturesCreated by Generation Rent

Don't Lease Shire Hall - Keep Council-Run for Social GoodMore than 3,000 people from Cambridgeshire signed the first petition calling to keep the site in Council ownership. Now the County Council leadership have opted for a 40 year lease to Brookgate - who have demolished other historical and beautiful Cambridge buildings. During this time, untold changes and destruction could be caused to Shire Hall and other areas of the estate. Brookgate will profit from what should be a public amenity. Would it ever return to Council use? Brookgate has sufficient wealth to challenge the covenant that is in place and potentially charge for access to Castle Mound or deny it altogether should they wish to. Non- listed buildings on the site including Shire Hall could be destroyed or significantly altered ruining their architecture. The whole Shire Hall site has great historical significance. This was the seat of government since the Middle Ages when Cambridge Castle was built soon after Norman invasion of 1066. The site has been loved and used continuously by the public. Shire Hall, a beautiful 1930s building is needed as a place of democratic governance, arts and community. The land is owned by Cambridgeshire County Council however Councillors are elected to uphold the best interests and wishes of the people they represent. Insisting on our rights for this site will be an emblematic move toward the sort of society we want. As a public treasure this could benefit society now and for the future. Are we willing to relinquish it? Please sign, share and comment asking others to do the same. We need people to know about this and to show the Country Council that we oppose sale or leasing of the entire site. Feel free to suggest uses of spare space in buildings on the estate or approve other suggestions made. Please also send us statements, photos and videos of time spent at Castle Mound over the last 20 years. Post on social media or email them. They are needed as evidence for the Town Green application. Email them to Twitter @CastleMound or the Facebook page below.770 of 800 SignaturesCreated by Isabel Lambourne
