Let refugee children live safely with their familiesEvery child has the right to grow up in a loving family environment. Without family support refugee children risk being exploited and possibly trafficked. So Angus MacNeil MP has brought forward a Private Members’ Bill which would give refugee children the right to be safely reunited with their family in the UK. Refugee children are often fleeing danger, war and political unrest – and laws in our country are only adding to this suffering. The Refugee Family Reunion Bill would help put an end to this – and provide three key things to grant children the right to a happier future. - Give unaccompanied refugee children in the UK the right to sponsor their parents to join them - Extend the age from 18 to 25 for parents to sponsor their children to come to the UK - Reinstate legal aid for refugee family reunion cases This Bill seeks to improve the lot for people who have found themselves in the worst situation possible having fled their homeland as refugees. It has support from members from seven parties – Government and opposition. It is not party political it is a humanitarian issue and would bring the UK into line with a majority of European countries if passed. https://s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/public38/images/mp.gif3,495 of 4,000 SignaturesCreated by Angus MacNeil MP

Return Pollok House TreasuresIt is important that these treasures are returned to Pollok House, because it means that the public, or tourists, are able to see these paintings without the need to make appointments with the resource centre. At Pollok House, they provide the best opportunity to see the paintings in good light, and without any time limits one might be able to stand in front of them. The greater access opportunities at Pollok House offers those who wish to study the old masters to grow and learn by looking at such works by Murillo, El Greco, Blake, Rubens, and some fine copies of Titian. There is also the visual enjoyment one gets by looking at great art. In addition, if tourists visit Glasgow, they might not be well versed with GMRC and might not have time to make appointments. The National Trust property may also be losing money by not having these treasures on display, while they are kept in storage, in another part of Glasgow. We call on Councillor David McDonald, and Glasgow Life, to return these treasures without any delay. [email protected]82 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Michael Wilson

Make Crown Steet a one way streetFollowing a series of accidents and some very serious as people either fail to stop or speed down Crown Street something needs to be done. Double yellow lines have failed to reduce the problems. Crown street/ St John Street junction is opposite a children’s park and has a nursery on it. Turning it into a one way street or dead end would prevent potential injuries and reduce the risk of a fatality.166 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Suzanne Steele

English as an Additional Language and Gypsy Traveller services in WalesThese children are already an ethnic minority and, as such, they need extra support to allow them to access education. They and their families are very vulnerable and, therefore, require emotional support to help them to adjust when settling into schools and local communities. They presently receive this care and support from designated specialist teachers of EAL and GYpsy Travellers. I understand that we need to make savings because of austerity. However, it is totally wrong to cut this vital service which is already at crisis level with retired staff not being replaced, budgets cuts annually, and so on. I truly believe that this is a massive mistake by the Welsh Assembly Labour Government and I, as a Labour member myself, urge everybody to sign this petition so that these already marginalised children can continue to receive the support they so desperately need.131 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Cathy Ellery-Jones

Adopt the Australian model for buying and sellingAs mentioned in the ongoing consultation on the property-buying process (https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/653789/Home_buying_and_selling.pdf), hundreds of millions of pounds are wasted every year due to failed transactions in relation to purchasing property. But this consultation does not seek to address the fundamental problem underlying much of this waste: that potential buyers are being forced to prove aspects of the quality and value of a property that could have been proven - once and for all - by the vendor, yet, in the case of properties with issues, are unearthing issues that had been unearthed in surveys by previous potential vendors. The buyer has to prove to him or herself that the property is of sufficient quality! This should be the vendor’s responsibility to prove. This system only benefits those who charge fees to supply the services related to these surveys, i.e. conveyancers and surveyors. It takes place at the expense of buyers. It has to change and be aligned with the Australian system.6 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Chris Gadd

Save Newcastle's ParksThe Parks Trust is an attempt to protect parks from severe local authority budget cuts and avoid responses taken elsewhere, some of which have gone as far as selling off parks for development. The new trust is being billed as a pioneering innovation with the potential to be rolled out to other local authorities in similarly dire financial situations. Without action, this model could pave the way for commercialisation of the nation's parks on a massive scale. Imagine billboards advertising chocolate bars and fizzy drinks, large areas carpeted over for car parking in areas which should be served by public transport, events held on so many days of the year that large areas are off limits to those without the means to pay. All these things are a very real possibility and they undermine the social benefits of parks that have been safeguarded for generations.168 of 200 SignaturesCreated by David Webb

Stop Osler House Doctors. Surgery from closingThis would effect 3500 registered patients who will now have to find an alternative Surgrey. Potter Street has the largest elderly population in Harlow. It will not be easy for the elderly and disabled to catch buses to see a doctor. The closure of this surgery will cause more pressure on the surgery’s who will have to take on extra patients, which in tern will cause longer waiting times to see a doctor.186 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Anna Stearn

Free parking in all nhs car parksPatients, relatives and visitors have to use the car parks when visiting nhs hospitals across the uk and they are charged for the use to park; to take, visit or see a dying relative or injured family member. We have no alternative to visit, as local community hospitals are being closed and there is no other option but to visit and pay for parking. Nhs are one of the largest UK employers and for the majority of staff, using public transport to get to work because of shifts or for dropping children off at school have no alternative but to take their vehicle. We all know that the Nhs has had the funding cut, but staff, patients and visitors should not have to fund this shortfall. In many hospitals the private sectors run the car parks for profits. Nhs should be free for all Therefore it is important that the public back this petition to demand that the government cease all charges on Nhs car parks.345 of 400 SignaturesCreated by Stewart Robinson

Fully Fund Policing in England and WalesFor years the government has cut funding for our police, putting our police services under incredible pressure. Shrinking budgets mean that we have lost over 20,000 police officers since 2010. Police officers work hard every day, doing their best to keep us safe, but they simply need more money and more resources to do the job. In the last year violent crime has risen by 20%, and a leaked Home Office report says cuts to police budgets “may have encouraged” violent offenders and have “likely contributed” to a rise in serious violent crime. The government need to give the police the money and resources they need to protect us and make sure violent crimes become rarer - not more common.2,631 of 3,000 SignaturesCreated by Chris Cook

Keep Maryama in BelfastMaryama fled war in Somalia in 2004 and claimed asylum in Dublin. After being refused asylum she travelled to Belfast in 2011 from where she has been deported to London and Dublin many times. She cannot return to Somalia as it is personally too dangerous for her. She has been cruelly separated from her nine children for the past fourteen years. It is essential that she stay in the UK as Belfast is her home. We call on the British government to end the inhumane treatment of Maryama.746 of 800 SignaturesCreated by ELIZABETH CULLINANE

Police chiefs must genuinely consult campaigners protesting against the onshore oil and gas industryThe police continually insist they value dialogue with campaigners who oppose plans to drill for oil and gas in local communities. It doesn’t feel that way, however, to people who are taking part in protests against these activities. Instead, they have condemned the way their human rights have been repeatedly trampled on by the police, how concerns raised with senior officers about aggressive policing are ignored and how formal complaints are hurriedly dismissed. Campaigners say officers have pushed them into hedges, violently dragged older people across roads, shoved others into speeding traffic and persistently made arbitrary and incomprehensible arrests. For eighteen months, the National Police Chiefs Council (NPCC) has kept promising to review the direction it gives local forces on the policing of these protests and at last, this now seems imminent. Despite pressure from Netpol, however, the senior officer leading the review has been extremely reluctant to consult directly with campaigners, despite their invaluable first-hand experiences of the way policing operations are conducted. We say: meaningful dialogue and genuine accountability means listening to critical voices. We want Lancashire Assistant Chief Constable Terry Woods - the NPCC Lead on Shale Gas and Oil Exploration - to take consultation seriously and formally invite members of the public to submit their testimony on the policing of local anti-fracking protests. The NPCC then needs to brief all the participants in the consultation on how its national guidance has subsequently been updated and improved.1,318 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Netpol Campaigns
