• No To Baddow Bus Gate
This petition has been reopened as following the delivery of 1500 plus signatures to Essex County Council on 27th August 2017 and again with in excess of 1800 signatures on the 25th January. Essex County Council announced in November that they DO intend to implement the bus gate scheme for an 18 month trial, this has now been reduced to 12 months. http://www.essexhighways.org/highway-schemes-and-developments/major-schemes/chelmsford-city-growth-package.aspx We need to continue to collect as many signatures as possible from local people to show that this is NOT the right solution! The proposed bus gate in Baddow road will prevent all vehicles except busses from travelling to the Army and Navy roundabout at peak times, effectively cutting off everyone who lives in or near Baddow Road from having access to the city centre without a long detour. The traffic that will no longer be allowed to travel down Baddow Road will be forced to go through Great Baddow village or Moulsham Lodge, thus increasing the volume of traffic near schools. The bypass is already too busy and has long queues at rush hour plus this will increase with the Manor Farm housing development. For anybody living within the area of Great Baddow between Beehive Lane and the Army & Navy, they will be blocked from entering town along the shortest and fastest route. Local residents will have to travel from the top of Baddow Road all the way back into Great Baddow to join the Baddow Bypass, to then return into Chelmsford area. In terms of pollution, this is forcing people to make much longer journeys. Not everybody is able to catch a bus nor do the busses suit travelling to many places of work as we are not all going into the city. ECC have yet to announce that they will insist that bus companies operate electric or hybrid vehicles. I have found the following document https://www.chelmsford.gov.uk/EasySiteWeb/GatewayLink.aspx?alId=25235 which on page 13 states that “HDV class vehicles were found to be contributing over 60% of traffic related NOx despite representing less than 7% of the total vehicle movements in the AQMA. Traffic counts for the roads that link with the Army and Navy Roundabout indicate that the majority of HDVs are public service vehicles (PSVs). In particular, in Baddow Road over 80% of HDVs are PSVs.” Put simply, the busses (PSV’s) are the main cause of pollution! Therefore, if the bus companies were to invest in newer, cleaner vehicles, this would improve air quality without any further need to restrict vehicles. Having spoken to ECC representatives at two of the consultations, the council does not have any confirmation from the bus companies that more busses would be scheduled nor fares re-examined. The air quality figures and their manipulation is also dubious, please see pages 4 & 5 https://www.chelmsford.gov.uk/EasySiteWeb/GatewayLink.aspx?alId=25235 A large percentage of traffic will have to take a long detour through the village and down the Baddow by pass, this will result in long queues on the slip road. Please take a look at the Design Stage 2 document http://www.essexhighways.org/uploads/ccgp/ccgp-baddow-road-bus-gate-design-stage-2-report-small.pdf which states that "When additional traffic is added to Essex Yeomanry Way (Baddow Bypass) with Baddow Road closed to general traffic north-west bound, VISSIM modelling suggests that the queue increases". They then follow this with "but with no significant impact upon average delay because of the altered traffic flow patterns at the roundabout allowing vehicles to access the roundabout more quickly." So we will not only have to take a huge detour but also have the "pleasure" of sitting in a longer queue! Many thanks for your support. Maxine Jones

  • Outlaw alcohol adverts on tv
Cigarettes are restricted from advertisement due to their health risks. Alcohol however also causes a lot of social issues such as binge drinking and anti social behaviour. Alcohol can be addictive just like cigarettes and therefore promotion of alcohol is as morally unjust as the promotion of tobacco

  • End the subsidy of food and drink in parliament
The tax payer should not have to fund the drinking and eating of the already well remunerated MPs. MPs of all political persuasions should pay the market rates like their electors have too sms show restraint in spending our money. We need to stop the gravy train and live within our means.

  • Save Southways Nursery School
Southways Nursery School plays a vital role within the local community. The nursery offers an excellent level of care and attention for children aged 2yrs to 5yrs of age. Without this nursery children will have to face the upheaval of being moved to a new nursery and these nurseries adding more pressure to both the nurseries and the parents as they have to travel further to get their child to nursery each morning. This is an excellent nursery with lots of history and ample space to support children during their early years. A closure of this nursery would have a devestating effect on the community around it and the children and parents that use it. Please sign the petition and lets stop this closure and save our chidren, parents and other nurseries undue anxiety and stress.

  • Save the Mature Woodland
This woodland has been untouched for 50+ years. It is a small piece of habitat for wildlife on a very steep incline in the midst of a densely populated area with very congested roads. This woodland provides habitat for bats, owls, badgers, foxes, hedgehogs, woodpeckers, slow worms and a host of other wildlife. It also forms a protective barrier which mitigates the noise and air pollution caused by the railway line and the traffic on Muller Road, and provides run off to mitigate flooding on Muller Road when there is torrential rain. It may not have the kudos of a 200 year old Oak tree, but it is doing a good job, and to those wildlife, it's home!

  • Tunnel demanded for Liverpool Port Access
The current proposals are short term and have negative impact on community health and well being of local residents particularly those living in the immediate vicinity of the A5036. The current proposals also impact detrimentally on green space provision in Rimrose Valley We do not believe the current proposals will alleviate the traffic problems for Port Access in the long term. Highways England have failed to fully review the option of a Tunnel.

  • CALL FOR THE REMOVAL OF TRIDENT FROM SCOTLAND TO COMPLY WITH THE UN BAN TREATY
On the 7th of July 2017 at the UN Headquarters in New York a global treaty banning nuclear weapons was adopted by a clear majority of UN member states. 122 member states voted for it, and only one voted against. The treaty will be open for signature by governments on September 20th 2017 and when it has been signed and ratified by fifty of the member states, those that join the treaty will be bound to prohibit any possession, use or threat with nuclear weapons. They will also be bound by law not to assist any other state in these activities, including states that do not sign up. The UK has said that it will not sign. Please request that your MSP and/or First Minister Nicola Sturgeon speak out firmly and publicly to the UK Government before the 20th September, and declare that Trident is even less welcome in Scotland when its legitimacy is challenged across the world. When you write to your MP or MSP, here is an easy ask. Ahead of the negotiations for the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) enlisted support from 856 parliamentarians in 42 countries. Now ICAN is seeking parliamentarians' support the new Parliamentary Pledge – a commitment to work for the signature and ratification of the treaty. This is an ideal tool for us in Scotland to exerting pressure on the UK government who failed to participate in the negotiations and to highlight the wall to wall opposition to nuclear weapons in Scotland . Parliamentarians at Westminster or Holyrood can add their names to the Pledge by emailing [email protected] or using this link. ICAN's website will let the world see what Scottish Parliamentarians think. The form is here http://www.icanw.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Parliamentary-Pledge.pdf?mc_cid=3b0ad99bfc&mc_eid=3b378b7aa3 It's just over a month until the treaty opens for signature. Let's work hard to have a large number of parliamentarians on board by then. http://www.greenpeace.org/international/en/news/Blogs/makingwaves/nuclear-weapons-banned-historic-UN-treaty/blog/59807/?utm_campaign=Twitter&utm_source=Link&utm_medium=US http://www.cnduk.org/images/stories/Trident_and_International_Law.pdf

  • Autovac return trays mandatory notices
This campaign is important because currently pub visitors have no idea that these devices are in use unless they peer over the bar and look for themselves. I moved up to near Edinburgh last year and hadn't heard Autovac (return trays) until a friend had mentioned them to me. He was always a bit of a joker so I naturally thought he was pulling my leg. However, a few weeks later a complete stranger whispered in my ear "I see you are drinking the warm recycled beer then...". It took me by surprise a bit and of course when I looked behind the bar I was horrified. The bar manager went into an explanation to try and convince me it was a good thing but this just doesn't sit well with me and if people are OK with this then that's up to them. It's often called Autovac, or return trays up here in Scotland. So far I have mainly discovered them in Edinburgh. Basically the drips that go normally go into a tray and get emptied out instead go back into the line and into the next pint. As previously described it's recycled beer and no matter how good staff training is there's an increased risk of contamination that is completely unnecessary in a modern pub. My position is this. I'm not trying to shut pubs, on the contrary, as a good friend said "There are good pubs in Edinburgh that could be a lot better". I'd like to see Autovac gone, but at the very least I'd like to see customers made aware they are in use. I had no idea and most people are surprised to hear they exist. With the exception of the tall fonts, the only way of knowing is to reach over the bar and have a look. Mandatory notification is the way forward I think and then customers can decide for themselves whether or not they are happy with the use of these devices. I would be grateful if this could also be shared on Twitter. Thanks.
