  • Intervene in the humanitarian crisis destroying Aleppo and the people of Syria
Dear Rt Hon. Theresa May MP, The history of Great Britain is long, proud, complex and oftentimes highly controversial. There are many times when we have stood on the right side of history, the honourable side of history and many times where we have stood on the wrong, shameful side of history. As you are very well aware, at this very moment, Assad's forces, backed by Russia, are systematically destroying the city of Aleppo and have pledged to 'annihilate' any surviving civilians. Schools and hospitals are military targets and untold numbers of War Crimes against Humanity are being committed on a daily basis. People are suffering as greatly as the Jews in 1930s-1945 Germany and yet when they flee we keep them in unsanitary camps and build fences to keep them out of our country. How can we stand back and let the continued destruction continue? What side of history are we standing on now? We implore you to use this country's military force for good, we ask for a military intervention with troops on the ground and anti-aircraft defences to enable UN aid agencies and international charities to set up medical shelter, to play a role in stabilising and bringing humanity back to this war stricken territory. Mobilising military forces has very rarely been a way of achieving peace but this genuinely seems to be a situation with no other option; a force of evil is wrecking a people and surely it is our humanitarian responsibility to exercise our powerful ability to step in and say 'No more'.

  • George Medal for Jo Cox MP
Jo Cox devoted her life to helping the vulnerable, and died attempting to protect the unarmed from a murderer. I believe that this exemplary behaviour warrants recognition at a high level in line with other similar acts of bravery regardless of personal cost.

  • Save Our Sea: Protect the Wildlife of Cardigan Bay
Cardigan Bay provides a home for many species of vulnerable marine life, some species such as the Atlantic grey seal are internationally important. From the reefs and sandbanks, small organisms in the benthos, to the largest population of breeding bottlenose dolphins in the UK, the complex biodiversity of this Bay is what makes it special. We feel that opening up this area to commercial scallop dredging would be detrimental to the ecosystem and significantly impact not only Welsh marine biodiversity but the lives of the local people who depend on the Bay for income, livelihood, and enjoyment. Mae Bae Ceredigion yn gartref i nifer o rywogaethau o fywyd morol bregus, rhai ohonynt – megis morlo llwyd yr Iwerydd – o bwys rhyngwladol. O’r riffiau i’r banciau tywod, o organebau bach y benthos i boblogaeth fwyaf y DU o ddolffiniaid trwynbwl sy’n bridio, y fioamrywiaeth gymhleth hon sy’n gwneud Bae Ceredigion mor arbennig. Teimlwn y byddai caniatáu treillio am gregyn bylchog yn yr ardal yn niweidiol i’r ecosystem ac yn cael effaith sylweddol ar fioamrywiaeth forol Cymru ac ar fywydau pobl leol sy’n dibynnu ar y Bae am incwm, bywoliaeth a mwynhâd.

  • Petition to stop destruction of historic St Paul's view
The view from King Henry's Mound in Richmond Park to St Paul's was created in 1711 by the planting of an avenue of trees. It is one of the ten protected views in London. The protection stops high-rise buildings encroaching on the sightline, either between the Mound and St Paul's or behind St Paul's. The view is now threatened by the construction of Manhattan Loft Gardens at Stratford. Already the building clearly compromises the profile of the whole of the dome of St Paul's, in contravention of the Mayor's planning guidance that requires a "clear sky background". The building was given planning permission with GLA acquiescence, without reference to the protected view. The development undermines the whole system of protected views, questions the competence of the GLA planners and destroys a view that has been cherished by Londoners for 300 years.

  • Save Sheffield Central Library
Libraries have been under threat across the country. Sheffield has already seen Walkley library sold to commercial interests. Now our council has opened up a review into commercial uses for the Central Library, with the possibility it will become a five-star hotel. The Central Library is a meeting space for groups and individuals, hosts talks by local and national authors and helps people use the internet. It is also a beautiful building, purpose built as a public space, which the general public can currently enjoy. The story of our beautiful art deco Central Library began in 1929, to a design by W. G. Davies and was conceived as part of a plan to create a civic (public) square. Today, the library houses Sheffield's largest general lending and reference collection. The Graves Art Gallery sits on the third floor with a gift shop and cafe and the Library Theatre, a space for local and student theatre companies, lives in the basement. It also houses a children's library. From the start, this building was imagined as a public space from top to bottom and should remain as such.

  • NHS Free and Open
The NHS was created on the basis of free at the point of access. Doctors, nurses and other health-care workers are not immigration officials deciding who the should or should not treat. This is against the principles of the NHS and the idea that sick people would be denied treatment just because they failed to have the correct paperwork when seeking help is shocking. This is just another attack on peoples rights by the current government and another burden they will place on our NHS. Can you imagine being turned away from a doctors surgery or a hospital just because they can not tick a box on a form confirming your identity. This will affect a wide range of people including both British citizens and migrants as well as asylum seekers. Are receptionist in wards and surgeries going to be asked to refuse people access to medical services? Are we going to have Immigration Officers in every medical facility to check peoples' documents? What will the government do if someone is refused access and later dies as a result? The government has to stop this and come up with a better idea. Placing the burden of deciding who to treat or not is not something our NHS should be doing. They have enough with treating people who are seriously sick and ill.
