Publish Report into Comet CollapseIn the light of the recent 'bankruptcy' of BHS, and the possibility of business owners operating at or beyond the limits of acceptable corporate governance, I think it is important for the public to understand whether there is a cultural problem within the corporate business sector. A similar set of events surrounded the collapse of the Comet group and a report was commissioned by the government into this collapse. The Government is refusing to publish this report. I think that a Government whose 'brand' is based on the benefits of a free enterprise culture needs to be very careful about how it is perceived when information pertaining to potential systematic abuse of the rules governing the corporate sector are withheld from the public.2 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Lawrence Ogden

Keep Access To The Green Chain Walk, Kings Quarter EstateAccess to Walden Recreation Ground is vital to the interests of many residents, particularly those with young children who use the local primary Schools. Pedestrian access to shops, bus stops and health services will be severely affected by the proposed actions. The quality of life of many of the residents will be severely affected, as they will lose pedestrian access to the open spaces nearby. Those residents who cannot afford or who choose not to rely on a car will be heavily penalised by this action. Increased levels of road traffic are inevitable, thereby making the area less safe for children. Young people generally in the estate will suffer as a result of this closure, as safe access to their nearest open space will be removed. It is understood that the closure of the pathway is being undertaken in an effort to reduce the levels of anti-social behaviour in the area. We would like to hear the views of residents, to see if an alternative strategy can be employed to deal with this serious issue. Our aim is to preserve this essential pedestrian access to the local green spaces, schools, bus stops and local facilities via this pathway, whilst at the same time coming up with a strategy to alleviate the fears of all those who are affected by anti-social behaviour in the area. We hope we're not too late, and that decisions which have been made can be un-made.327 of 400 SignaturesCreated by Kat Carr

Muirfield Golf Club: tee'd offIt's 98 years since (some) women were allowed to vote in Britain, and 214 years since A Vindication of the Rights of Woman was published. Muirfield Golf Club needs to get up-to-date. Treating all human beings as equal is a mark of civilisation.1,664 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Julie Watt

Ban Palm Oil From Cooperative Own BrandsWhen Cheap Costs Too Much Palm Oil has become a too commonly used ingredient in our lives. Used to large brands using this cheap fat in everything from soaps to bread, I've become used to my shopping basket getting increasingly limited. I actually don't mind that aspect but what I do mind the horrific damage done by the growth of this market. What has become particularly insidious is the label of Sustainable Palm Oil, I actually don't believe such a thing can exist. For a start the chances are that the land that any Palm Oil plantations are grown on were once rainforest, with people, orangutans and a whole world of invertebrates and plants that we don't even know about. That also means that it's contributing to increasing C02 levels and, as the peat bogs of South East Asia burn, methane. I see nothing sustainable there. How can such vast plantations ever be called sustainable? Especially as to maintain that plantation for a few years large amounts of chemicals must be employed to keep it going, and then when it runs out of nutrients the plan is to cut down more rainforest and plant that up with Palm Oil? How can this be sustainable? Palm Oil is a cheap and nasty fat, it's bad for health, it's bad for our planet, it's bad for the animals and plants on this planet. I can only see that a ban on Palm Oil in all products is the way forward for a more sustainable future. I call on the Co-operative to ban Palm Oil in all of its products and to actively seek brands that are also proudly Palm Oil free. If you have sustainability as a policy and you use Palm Oil then you fail at the first hurdle. When shops like Lush and brands like Pattersons can declare themselves Palm Oil free I don't see there is any excuse.241 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Lyndsey Maiden

Goodwin Sands SOS - Stop the Dredge! The Goodwin Sands are a string of sandbanks some 25 square nautical miles in size lying 3 miles off the Kent coast in the English Channel. They are a unique marine environment with an underwater cultural heritage to match. But this precious habitat is under threat and time is not on our side! Dover Harbour Board want to extract 2.75 million cubic meters of marine aggregate from the Goodwins (as they are known locally) because it is their cheapest option. The purchase price from the Crown Estate who own the seabed is less than from commercial sites, but they are further away. DHB cite the carbon footprint as a reason to take the aggregate from the Goodwins but in reality this is a smoke screen which can be mitigated in other ways. DHB applied for their licence from the Marine Management Organisation in 2016. However, concerns about their proposal have been so great that we are now preparing for an unprecedented third six-week public consultation period, which will start sometime in late summer. A decision whether or not to grant the licence will be made any time after this, depending on the reactions received. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4GrG3IdBU4 Save our Military Remains and Shipwrecks According to the Kent Battle of Britain Museum, there are at least 60 military air crash sites and the final resting places of 80 aircrew from 1940 alone lying buried in the Goodwin Sands area. There are 11 more Dornier 17 German bombers also lying buried somewhere on the Goodwins, identical to the one which was found by a local diver in 2008 and recovered with international press coverage in 2013. The Goodwin Sands are known hold about 2,000 shipwrecks, many which were lost with all hands. These wrecks have the reputation for being extremely well preserved. The wreck of the Admiral Gardner lies close to the proposed dredging zone. She was an East Indiaman, built in 1797, which was stranded on the sands during a gale in 1809. Although there is a 300m exclusion zone around her, the impact and vibration caused by nearby dredging could still disturb or damage her. Four other ships - also Protected Wrecks Sites - Northumberland, Restoration, Mary and Stirling Castle were all wrecked on the night of the Great Storm, 19th November 1703, with the loss of 1201 lives. They lie on the seabed adjacent to the proposed dredging zone. The history of Deal boatmen and the Sands are inexorably linked, giving rise to multiple tales of tragedy, lost lives and heroism. These stories of bravery are reflected in legendary characters such as Will Adams of the North Deal lifeboat, the sea going Chaplain Reverend Stanley Treanor and the sea surgeon James Hall. A German submarine which sank off Dover after being mined in 1939 has still not been discovered. It is protected under the Protection of Military Remains Act 1986 and may well lie in or near the proposed dredging zone. Save our Sealife The Goodwins are home to a colony of 500 grey and harbour seals. They are also the spawning and nursery grounds of a variety of local fish and shellfish, with many shipwrecks providing a semi natural habitat. The Thornback Ray which is listed as 'near threatened' under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 has frequently been sighted there. The colony of seals use areas adjacent to the proposed dredging zone as their 'haul out' sites i.e. where they rest on land at low tide. The noise and vibration from the huge dredgers will disturb them in their natural habitat; there is also the possibility of them being injured by collision with the dredgers and propellors as they are naturally inquisitive creatures. The sands provide shelter to ships in bad weather (in an anchorage known as The Downs) and to the Kent coastline by absorbing the waves' energy as they pound in from the North Sea. At low tide a large proportion of the sands are exposed and waves can be seen crashing onto them from the shore. Save our Shore The coastline between Dover and Deal is susceptible to erosion and beach recharging works are a semi permanent feature of life there. Coastal flooding along the East Kent coast is a continual problem and one which would be exacerbated by dredging the Goodwin Sands due to lowering the level and changing the topography (shape) of the sea bed. The sandbanks absorb the energy from the huge rolling waves coming in from the North Sea which would otherwise be crashing straight onto the Kent coast with destructive results. Please help save the Goodwin Sands and their neighbouring environment from the destruction of dredging by signing and sharing this petition today. Thank you!16,964 of 20,000 SignaturesCreated by Joanna Thomson

Endometriosis Campaign for Flu ImmunisationAs minor as this may seem, endometriosis causes / is a cause of a low immune system, just the same as asthma. If you are asthmatic (like members of my family) you are entitled to a flu jab on the NHS. I do not, I have to pay for my disease. The same disease that is the reason why a gynae sees it fit to force my body into a medically enduced menopause after I required a bowel resection, due to this awful condition. Every time I catch a cold, I lose my voice for 4-5 weeks, which affects my job (I am a teaching assistant) . Since paying for a flu jab, I have had colds, but not lost my voice and needed time off sick. Can you please help? The effects of endometriosis are often dumbed down (dubbed as women complaining about periods), ignored (like I had been in hospital - to quote at the first hospital I was sent to - "If you require a bowel operation, it may be tricky." Or even unknown altogether. Please help this dibilitating disease be made aware. Thank you.246 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Lorraine Wilson

Safe Crossing at Hangingwater & Whiteley Wood RoadPlease help us get over well over 5000 local people supporting this campaign as it will force Sheffield Council to properly debate this issue in the open. We have until the end of September to do just that. Help get Sheffield City Council to finally bring in urgent traffic safety measures to protect over 100 children who regularly use this route to go to three local schools in the area. The urgency of this was brought home to us when our daughter sustained serious injuries in late 2015 from a car going less than 20 mph when she was on her way to High Storrs School. This school is the closest catchment school for Nether Green and Fulwood. However the walking route has no footpath in places and no crossing. The path opens up into a T junction (picture). The Council has admitted that the lack of footpath across this junction is dangerous and they won’t even place a School crossing warden there because of the danger. Now the Council have said after months of talks that they will not consider installing a crossing or altering this dangerous footpath to what is the most direct route to High Storrs School, Notre Dame School and Nether Green Junior School. It is only a matter of time before a child or another member of the community receives life changing injuries or death as a result of the council's inaction.6,438 of 7,500 SignaturesCreated by Martin Jacobs

Make Lewes a TTIP Free ZoneThe Transatlantic Trade Investment Partnership is being negotiated in strict secrecy. But what is known about the content places the needs of multi-national corporations above the needs of citizens with inherent threat to the environment and to health. Academics have warned the treaty will entrench inequality and lower consumer safety standards. Brighton and Hastings have already declared as TTIP Free Zones. Let Lewes, the County Town of East Sussex, join with them.115 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Sonya Baksi

Devon County Council get Weapons Manufacturers Out of EducationBabcock International is a weapon manufacturer operating around the globe. They are also contracted by Devon County Council to monitor and produce reports on school attendance. After ten sessions (five days) of "unauthorised absence" they send this letter threatening a fine of up to £2500 and/or three months in prison. The letter is sent to hundreds of parents each year, causing disproportionate distress for what, in many cases, is a single case of illness or forgetting to inform the school in time. Children become worried that their mum or dad might go to prison. Parents worry their children might be taken into care, that they might lose their jobs, businesses, dignity and freedom. The threat, and potential fine and imprisonment, disproportionately affects single parents and poor people, who are less able to pay a Fixed Penalty Notice within 21 days (after which it doubles). I have personally supported a single mum who was working full time, raising two children, starting a business and having to comfort her children who thought that Mum was going to prison. Babcock's business is in fear, not in children's education.1,046 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Christopher Mockridge

Ledbury Town Council Isn't Working. Start now!The people of Ledbury have lost confidence in their Town Council. They are sickened by the infighting and injustice which has dominated Council life in recent years. Ledbury needs a skilled town council which can demonstrate good governance and is able to seize future opportunities for the town. The Town Council is not fit for purpose as it stands. Councillors are often ill-informed and prejudiced. Democratic reform would include: - Decisions always being made on evidence - Councillors routinely receiving training and specialist advice - The Council using experts from the community to inform its decisions - Reports and proceedings documented in appropriate detail - Providing a responsive service to questions and correspondence from the public. Other award-winning town councils like Frome, Oswestry and Milton Keynes (Campbell Park) have shown the potential rewards that come from active citizen participation in charting an inspiring future for their towns. Ledbury Town Council should aspire to these models of excellence and commit to the Nolan Principles: Selflessness, Integrity, Objectivity, Accountability, Openness, Honesty, Leadership.122 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Rich Hadley
