• Please Keep The Three Horseshoes in Fordham as an Asset of Community Value
The ACV has been appealed. The Local Community has campaigned successfully to list the Three Horseshoes in Fordam as an 'Asset of Community Value'. Pubs listed as Assets of Community Value are automatically granted additional planning protection. Without ACV status, a pub can be demolished or converted into several other uses without planning permission. The local group are therefore campaigning to see the pub remains listed to ensure it remains in the local community. The ACV also gives the opportunity to bid to buy the pub should it come up for sale. There are around 50 community owned pubs already in the UK. The pub was nominated by the CAMRA Branch - other nominating bodies can include: Parish Councils, groups of 21 local people or a Neighbourhood Forum. • Bristol Needs A Mayor For Homes
Bristol is in the midst of a worsening housing crisis. With over 10,000 on the housing waiting list and private sector rent increases of 25% in just four years the situation is getting desperate. We need more homes of all types to help people onto the property ladder and to ensure there are enough affordable homes for those who need them. Private tenants need protection from extortionate rents and poor living conditions. On 5th May Bristol will elect a new Mayor. Whoever the winning candidate is they must make ending Bristol's housing crisis their number one priority. A new coalition of groups has formed to lead a single, united campaign - A Mayor For Homes. Please join us and make sure that Bristol's next Mayor delivers more, affordable housing and protections for tenants.

  • Broadcast equality for England's women national football team
Following the overwhelming success of England’s women at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada last year – with semi-final viewing figures peaking at 2.4 million on the BBC despite an 11pm kick-off, and with the third-place playoff victory against Germany drawing a peak of 2.5 million viewers despite a 10pm kick-off – it's time that our women get equal broadcast coverage on free-to-air television as their male counterparts. Given that the women took England to their highest finish in a World Cup competition since the men won in 1966, we should be celebrating their sporting achievement, and the massive rise in popularity in women's football, both professional and at grassroots level, over the past decade.

  • Statue in memory off the Aberdeen Trawling Fleet & the men who sailed in them.
As the once vibrant fleet has now long gone it's about time something was done to remember them. Many ship's and men were lost, far too many. For every one man at sea they created jobs for seven ashore. Certainly a big and vital boost to the local economy. Other Ports around the country have erected Statues, Plaques and preserved ships in memory of there fishermen... surely Aberdeen can do the same ? You at least owe to past and future generations......

  • Don't force Balshaws High school to become an academy
No two schools are alike. But the government doesn't seem to agree. It wants to rush through plans to force every single school in England to become an academy the type of school paid for by taxpayers, but run by businesses, sponsors or trusts. Many teachers and parents are already standing against the plans, saying that they're "a step towards privatisation", ignore local views, and could force some schools to close. One size does not fit all, and local parents and teachers should have a say in the future of our school. ------ If this isn't your local school, click here to sign your local petition, or start one if no-one else has yet: https://secure.38degrees.org.uk/start-a-campaign-for-your-school

  • Panama Papers: Prosecute Tax Evasion
The "Panama Papers", a massive leak of over 11 million documents from the Mossack Fonseca Company, has revealed a wealth of corruption that covers 4 decades, and may represent millions, if not billions, of Pounds Sterling in lost taxes. Think of all the things these lost taxes could do in balancing the budget, in strengthening public services. This is why any and all wrongdoing relating to the UK must be investigated, prosecuted, and punished.

  • How is your Council Tax spent?
Every year Local Authorities spend millions of pounds of your money on the purchase of services from private companies. Any attempt to find out how much money is being spent on a specific contract under the Freedom of Information Act is denied on the basis that the information "Commercial in Confidence" Whilst such a defence is legitimate during the bidding process, once a contract has been let then Council Tax payers are entitled to know how much is being spent on any particular contract in order to judge whether or not it represents value for money. • Begging should not be banned in Woking
Begging is not harmful. Woking Borough Council argue that begging can be intimidating. But if someone feels intimidated, the Police can use existing powers under the Public Order Act. The council also said there is no need to beg in Woking- because there is sufficient help available. However, the waiting lists for NHS mental healthcare, and substance misuse treatment are not short. It is also claimed that many people who beg aren't actually homeless. Of course, lying about your circumstances is fraud and the Police can use existing powers to deal with it. This campaign is based on this information from Woking Council's website: https://www.woking.gov.uk/community/safety/pspo If you have anything that suggests that Woking Borough Council are no longer able to fine people for begging then we'd love to hear more from you, drop us an email at [email protected]
