National Express: Racist? It's completely unacceptable that someone has, allegedly, been denied access to travel because of the colour of their skin. From Rosa Parks to Bristol's own Paul Stephenson, activists have struggled to ensure, and maintain, equal access to public transport for everyone regardless of their skin colour. Not tackling this head-on sets a dangerous precedent and will surely lead to more incidents of discrimination. National Express needs to address this serious allegation and win back public confidence. It should take this opportunity to become an industry leader and set an example in this time of tension when discrimination against Muslims is on the rise. Labour Councillor for Easton, Afzal Shah, said: “Have we really returned to days where people are kicked off buses because of the colour of skin, their appearance or religion? National Express has a lot of questions to answer. Yes, people who are behaving suspiciously on public transport should be challenged, but when someone is apparently asked to leave a bus because they are a Muslim carrying a bag, that is unacceptable and Islamophobic.” The allegations are serious and could amount to a criminal offence under the discrimination act. This petition is supported by ACORN Bristol, Bristol Somali Forum and Bristol Green Party. Help Mature students learnDue to illness, I had to change career later in life, however in order to go back to college, I had to rely on my parents to fund my education, but when im qualified I will be paying into the Tax system. I could of sat on disability allowance for the rest of my life, however I am not ready to throw in the towel. I have a lot to offer within society, at the age of 48, I went back to school. There are 20 other students in my class in the same boat, just think how many more would get an education with a little help along the way and will give back in the long run.26 of 100 SignaturesCreated by kim ayre

Improve the behaviour of members of ParliamentThe behaviour of some of MPs in the House of Commons has become completely unacceptable This includes ,shouting ,interupting, sarcasm, hecklng, finger jabbing, and sexist behaviour. it wouldn't be acceptable in my place of work ,or yours, and would quickly become a disciplinary matter. We request a full review of the code of conduct, so that it is up to date and fit for purpose in a modern workplace7 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Anthony Pierre

Stop spraying Monsanto glyphosates on Bristol's streets and parks.Bristol Council currently uses four glyphosate herbicides including Monsanto's Roundup on our streets and parks. This is despite the fact that the World Health Organisation (WHO) has identified glyphosate as likely to cause cancer in humans. The WHO finding sits alongside a wealth of existing evidence that raises alarming questions marks over the long term safety of exposure to glyphosate both on its own and in combination with other chemicals found in formulas such as Roundup. The use of glyphosates has already been banned or restricted in 8 countries. It is not acceptable that ourselves, our children and the animals we share this city with are being routinely exposed to these chemicals whether we like it or not. If Bristol is to have any credentials as the current European Green Capital, it must exercise the precautionary principle and follow the example of cities such as Chicago, Paris and Rotterdam by banning this spraying in public places. This is a matter of great importance for those of us who care about each other's health and the health of our children, our cats, our dogs and all the flora and fauna of this city, of course including our beloved bees. For more information see this article from The Bristol Cable: https://thebristolcable.org/2015/10/bristol-monsanto-and-chemicals/ There are viable safe alternatives to glyphosates. The Netherlands have outright banned glyphosates in public spaces and are using a hot water treatment instead. A hot water and foam method is also available in the UK and Bristol Council is already aware that this can be a more effective alternative than hot water on its own. Glyphosates are the cheapest option but we must send the message loud and clear that value is not just about price and that the health and safety issues around glyphosate render its 'cheap and easy' status irrelevant. Other effective methods may cost more in cash terms but represent far better value to local residents. Using a formula such as Roundup in our public spaces is simply unacceptable no matter how cheap and quick it makes the task of urban weed management.7,392 of 8,000 SignaturesCreated by Zaheer Mamon

Reopen Church Street Alleyway & Stop Targeting Peterborough HomelessThe alleyway is used by everyone but at night is used by people who have no where to go and use the alleyway as to shelter from the winter weather and to keep safe. With the closure this year of a homeless charity in Peterborough there is less support for the homeless. We should be looking after our vulnerable population not ostracising them by moving them to places that are less intrusive to our lives, so that they are out of sight. The next time you walk past a homeless person, think about the fact that they have had lives, rich and interesting lives that were thrown into turmoil due to circumstances that are often out of their control. For those people who are not sure if they agree with this petition I would say if it is a problem for a homeless person to stay in that area, then perhaps a more human approach could be adopted – a person telling another person to move along is more humane than closing the alleyway.245 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Darren Bisby-Boyd

A HERITAGE CENTRE FOR PORTSLADEPortslade has suffered for many years from being a poor relation to other parts of Brighton and Hove. Yet it has a vibrant and loyal local community. Change might be coming to Portslade from outside in the form of the Joint Area Action Plans for the port area. Setting up a Heritage Centre in the southern part of Portslade would bring regeneration to Portslade from within the community. A Heritage Centre will cater to all sections of the community – school children, adults, and older people. It would create a community resource and shared space and it could bring visitors into Portslade thus helping to grow the local economy.124 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Duncan Cameron

Save the UK Steel IndustryThe steel industry is recognised by the government as fundamental to a national industrial strategy. It feeds important high earning industries such as ship building, automotive, aeronautic, energy production, construction & transport. "The industry is highly efficient, innovative, investing in new equipment, has high skill/high pay jobs and exports high grade products globally" (Gareth Stace, Director UK Steel, Select Committee proceedings) Too many times in recent decades we have opted out of crucial activities to a point where our ability to service the country has suffered. No more opting out Mr Javid!! Sign this petition and show your support for the companies and workers who are vital to the UK's prosperity, and were rightly immortalised in the Olympic Opening Ceremony 2012.76 of 100 SignaturesCreated by David Starmer

Save Our NHS BursariesCurrently the NHS covers tuition fees and provides means-tested bursaries. If funding is taken away, future healthcare students will be expected to take out a loan to cover the tuition fee (at least £9000 per year) as well a maintenance loan to live on. UNISON have estimated that a nursing degree under this proposed system would place students in at least £50,000 of debt (excluding debt that they may have from any previous degree). With a starting nursing salary of £22,799 (currently capped at a 1% rise and not in line with the rising costs of living in the UK) it could take around 30 years to pay it off. This prospect would most certainly deter many from taking up these careers. Taking up part-time work is very difficult for nursing and other healthcare students due to long clinical hours. Student nurses have 37.5 hour placement weeks and often have childcare and other caring responsibilities on top of this. Any extra work would likely lead to tiredness and could potentially put patients in danger. Furthermore, the diversity of the NHS workforce would be greatly affected if the plans go ahead. We need people from all backgrounds in the health profession and not just those that can afford it or from a privileged background. Many of us who are current students would have been unable to take up the courses if we did not receiving the funding. Going ahead with the proposed plans would take away the opportunities for many people (particularly those from low income background) currently considering training in our much-needed healthcare professions. If the proposed plans go ahead this will be hugely detrimental to both potential healthcare students and to the NHS as a whole. There is an adjournment debate on Monday 14th December and debate on January 11th 2016. We hope to get as much support as possible so that these plans do not go ahead.5 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Zan Smith

MP'S Expenses Must be included in Freedom of InformationWe have a right to ask where our money as tax payers is being spent, if it is funding second homes or undue expenses. Any change to restrict the Freedom of Information Act makes a mockery of it in total. Our MPs should be able to declare with pride that they are not misusing generous subsides and expenses.11 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Kathy Lang

Talk to the Peaceful Anti-Fracking Protester on Hunger Strike Opposite 10 Downing StHis request is simple; he wants to speak to you Mr Cameron, to present you with scientific evidence and to show you the social opposition to fracking, particularly from Lancashire where he lives, but he also acts as a passionate green voice for many people in the UK who feel the same way. He isn't a scientist, or a powerful politician or a celebrity; he is a regular everyday bloke who believes fracking is a very bad idea - today (4/12/2015) is his 12th day without food. He wants to talk to you about the exponential growth of support from regular everyday folks who don't have a voice on the telly, the radio or in the papers, but who want you and our government to deliver renewable, sustainable, safe options to power our country. He just wants to talk to you Mr Cameron - go and see him! * * * Gayzer has no PR or media team, no YouTube channel or popular blog page to help raise his profile. Please show your support for his plight; he is your next-door neighbour, he is the voice in the supermarket queue, he is the one who is putting everything on the line to try to protect the future of all of our children.1,038 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Tracey West
