• BP out of the Edinburgh International Festival
The Edinburgh International Festival's mission is to contribute to "many aspects of life, be it cultural and economic, education and society and enhances the lives of people not just in Edinburgh and Scotland, but around the world". We believe this vision is at odds with the human rights abuses and environmental destruction perpetrated by one of the Festival's sponsor: oil giant BP. BP is now being taken to court by Gilberto Torres (pictured above in the middle), former Columbian trade union leader, with the assistance of War on Want and a British law firm for being complicit in the crimes perpetrated by the oil company Ocensa. The company is accused of financing the torture, murder and disappearance of more than 12,000 people in the oil-rich and politically unstable region of Casanare. While issues of funding are of increasing importance to cultural institutions, we strongly believe there is no rationale to justify the reconciliation of fossil fuel corporations and the arts. Therefore, we are now calling on the Edinburgh International Festival to remove BP from its corporate sponsors.

  • Raise the school starting age to 7
4 is far too young for a child to enter full-time education, as they may not fully comprehend what is required of them, creating additional stress for their parents and teachers (and themselves). It is recommended that ages 4 to 6 be reserved for kindergarten education to prepare children more effectively for school per se.

  • David Cameron: Spend a day in Oxfordshire County Council's office
It's great to see David Cameron finds the idea of balancing the books in a council budget so easy! We challenge him to spend a day in Oxfordshire's County Council office and show councillors how exactly he'd protect front line services after imposing massive cuts in council budgets. Councils across the country are struggling thanks to David Cameron's cuts, so we want him show them how it's done, as he appear to have the answers.

  • Change Inverness airport's name to Inverness LOCH NESS International Airport
The vast majority of visitors to Britain fly into London, with a list of things they want to see and do. Visiting Scotland is often high on their list. LOCH NESS is arguably the most world famous destination in Scotland. People across the world recognize the name LOCH NESS. To attract more visitors we should capitalise on this. Change the name to "Inverness LOCH NESS International Airport". We will then be competing strongly with Edinburgh and Glasgow Airports. This should also help to make the new Heathrow to Inverness flights busier, thus helping to retain this vital link.

  • 20's Plenty for Stony Stratford
Stony Stratford is the jewel of Milton Keynes. A mandatory 20mph speed limit will make the town safer for children and adult pedestrians, cyclists and the elderly and vulnerable. 20mph is safer then 30mph. Safer streets encourage increased independent mobility for children and the elderly. It will make our town a healthier, safer place to live. Other areas of Milton Keynes have a 20mph limit. It's important that we demonstrate to Milton Keynes Council the level of local support for 20mph speed limit in Stony.

  • Introduce Fair Council Tax
The present system is grossly unfair. Everybody benefits from Local Government expenditure but only a few have to pay, and then regardless of their income. Many of the poor subsidise many of the rich. Sharing a home should not exempt any of the occupants from assessment/payment.

  • Open up empty buildings to shelter the homeless in UK this Winter
I have felt compelled to start this petition since meeting a homeless lad in our local train station one night, there is a piano set up at the station, I've no idea why, probably for us to entertain ourselves while we wait for yet another delayed or missing train, anyhow, this young homeless lad, his bedding wrapped around his shoulders sat at the piano and played like a professional pianist, he moved me to tears...sadly it was reported recently that the lad had passed away on the street where he had gone to sleep. Homelessness can happen to anyone at any given time, it can come from a variety of situations, young people leaving home because of abuse/familial breakdown, being thrown out, relationships breaking down, bereavement, domestic violence, job loss, rent arrears or a lot of the time just because of bad/greedy landlords. According to statistics from the Department for Communities and Local Governments Rough Sleeping in England has risen by 55% between 2010-14 https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/407030/Rough_Sleeping_Statistics_England_-_Autumn_2014.pdf I'm sure you will agree with me that this is unacceptable and will see the urgency to act immediately to remedy this shameful situation otherwise how many more lives will be lost as the winter months fast approach? Please join me in telling David Cameron and the Conservative Government that instead of passing laws to criminalise homelessness they should be treating this social ill as the moral crisis it is, open up empty buildings this winter to accommodate homeless people.

  • West Berkshire Mencap's Disabled Children's Short Break Funding Cuts
Families of disabled children who attend After School Club, Youth Club, Holiday Play Schemes, Residential Holidays, Saturday Clubs and Overnight Breaks at West Berkshire Mencap do so out of sheer necessity. West Berkshire Mencap support the most complex and vulnerable of children who quite literally have no other respite options. These short breaks enable families to cope with day to day life and in most cases, enable them to spend quality time with their other children who are often overlooked due to the time. Parents must invest to meet the care requirements and demands of their disabled child. Parents also use these services to enable them to access social activities, maintain friendships and relationships, access further training or to have down time to recuperate so they can continue to care for their child at home.

  • Open up empty buildings to shelter the homeless in Teesside this winter
Teesside has been hit severely by the actions and inactions of this Government. There are increasing numbers of the homeless, including those with long term mental health difficulties and ex Forces personnel. We should show our humanity by supporting these at this difficult time and providing them with on site statutory services to assist them.

  • STOP CALLING CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE CHILD PORN
Pornography is between two consenting adults, not between a child and adult, the children are groomed and forced to become victims of sexual abuse, they are not capable of giving consent, plus it is agaiinst the law for an adult to have sex with a child under the age of 16, For years the government, social media, newspapers have called it child porn, it needs to be stopped now, be called what it really is CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE, Below are just a few sites calling sexual abuse porn, this is going on world wide, each day all you have to do is pput child porn in search bar, it is wrong it needs by what it is, CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/11114937/More-than-25000-people-caught-viewing-child-porn-online.html http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-34683472 http://www.ipswichstar.co.uk/news/74_year_old_ipswich_man_caught_in_worldwide_child_porn_inquiry_is_given_police_caution_1_4014200 http://www.theguardian.com/culture/2015/aug/05/india-lifts-ban-on-internet-pornography-after-criticisms Victims and survivors are being classed as taking part in pornography, when they are not, it is hard enough for victims to come forward, they should be given full support, not classed as if they are some kind of porn stars, Paedophiles groom children, sexually abuse them for their own gratification, force them into films, photographs, to be spread round the world, chidren do not give their consent to this, plus children are passed from one abuser to another, I am a survivor of child sexual abuse, I find it totally disgusting that people class it as porn, I did not give consent to any sexual activity with an adult as a child, I was forced into it, but then for it to be made out it is child porngraphy is totally sickening to me
