Immediate Moratorium on Fracking in EnglandFracking is an inherently dangerous industrial process which poisons water aquifers. Do we want our families and future generations to suffer from the effects of chemically contaminated water in perpetuity? Environment America's Research and policy Centre’s report in 2013, which studied the impact of fracking across the United States, states that fracking poses grave risks to the environment and human health. For this reason the Scottish and Welsh assemblies have imposed a moratorium on fracking in Scotland and Wales. There have been many cases across the US where contamination of drinking water has led to serious impacts on health for humans and livestock. I urge anyone to get hold of it, it makes very sobering reading. Fracking is not a safe industry and the evidence from studies in the US backs this up. The visual and environmental impact of this industrial process on the landscape and to habitats is dramatic and therefore extremely concerning. Damage is caused by drilling through water bearing rock strata and pumping a cocktail of toxic chemicals at extremely high pressure in order to shatter oil bearing shale. Well linings break and degrade leading to irreversible contamination of aquifers. The vast quantities, millions of gallons, of water for this process must be taken in competition with the needs of irrigation for agriculture and our drinking water. The water becomes contaminated and cannot be recycled but has to be brought back to the surface and stored in reservoirs or dumped, leading to escape and further permanent damage to the environment. Fracking will without question threaten the purity and future security of water aquifers across England in densely populated counties including Surrey, Sussex and Hampshire. Drilling horizontally below for example beneath the South Downs National Park cannot be considered safe. In geological terms, this isn't very deep at all. Depth does not address the risk fundamentals that high pressure fracking and extraction from well head to oil bearing strata and in reverse in a environmentally sensitive and densely populated region poses to health. Fracking should be regulated with as much rigour as the nuclear industry is under European Environmental Impact Assessment regulation. The impact of fracking is such a critical and detailed issue for the UK, I urge everyone to review the evidence on fracking that is emerging from the US for themselves and not rely on ministerial briefings and support a moratorium on fracking in England until fracking can ever be proved to be a safe and sustainable industrial practice. There are proven safe and sustainable alternatives to securing the nation's energy requirements.10 of 100 SignaturesCreated by David O'Brien

Open up empty buildings in Darlington for the homeless this winter. To plead to the Council to open its empty buildings to the homeless in winter. I cannot imagine sleeping rough in driving, biting winds, snow, ice and winter rain. It's inhumane. It's also inexcusable when we have so many empty buildings.173 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Sue Whitlock

We support a cycling track for UlverstonAs a peninsular, whose nearest dedicated cycling track is an hours drive away, we need such a facility to encourage cycling as part of a healthy and environmentally friendly community. We will be able to provide a facility for casual cyclists and training and racing for the more serious cyclist.307 of 400 SignaturesCreated by Karen Allanson

Stop shops promoting confectionery sales at tillsThis is immoral as such companies should not promote and profit from the impulse buying of sugary snacks, which increase the risk of obesity and diabetes. Furthermore, they should not impose such sales targets on their staff.6 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Kathleen Walsh

Revise Dangerous Wild Animals Act 1976The list of genera/species covered by the act is woefully dated. For example, Sicarius sp. The Six Eyed Sand Spider, is not even covered by the license despite being absolutely lethal. This species is being readily kept without any restrictions whatsoever. At a minimum this petition is to get this particular genus added to the Act, an acknowledgement that this species requires licensing. Going further than this i would see a tiered system introduced with two levels of animal. Lethal and Dangerous. At present the same regulations and criteria to keep a Black Widow (which is comparatively harmless despite it's reputation) would also allow an individual to keep an Alligator. Clearly this is a situation that cannot be allowed to continue. There needs to be a distinction between animals that can be kept with minimal precautions by responsible and experienced individuals and those species that require much greater controls be in place.61 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Allen Ward

Say "No" to the brutal staff cuts at FIRSTSITE, Colchester's newly risen cultural star.We finally have the Firstsite we dreamed of, a jewel in our midst, a beating heart of creativity in Colchester. The Board of Trustees at Firstsite are largely an outsider group who are not in tune with the current feeling and support for the huge achievements of both Anthony Roberts and the staff in creating a jewel in Colchester's creative community. They are dismissive of the community in Colchester and are about to destroy all that has been created by Anthony and his team. Please don't let this happen.133 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Angella Horner

Recognise Pregnancy and Infant loss in the UKAccording to the child loss charity, SANDS one in every 216 babies delivered in the UK in 2013 were stillborn (that is, the baby died during pregnancy and birth any time from 24 weeks of pregnancy onwards). In the same year, one in every 370 babies born died in the first four weeks of life. One-third of stillborn babies that's round 1,200 babies every year-die after a full term pregnancy (37 or more weeks). According to the office of national statistics, there were 3284 stillbirths in England and wales in 2013 ( a fall of 7.7%) Also in 2013 there were 249 unexplained infant deaths in England and Wales a rate of 0.36 deaths per 1,000 live births. In 2012, there were 523 deaths in the age range of 1-4 years (Why children die. May 2014. Wolfe, Mcfarlen et al) Whilst these statistics may be alarming it is important to point out that the number of deaths in pregnancy and infancy had decreased from 2012. Through making National Awareness within the UK, this will help in the recognition of loss during a parent's pain. This remembrance day can play a small part in enabling families to find a way of grieving and in time help each other throughout the UK-remove the stigma of not being able to talk about it. Most importantly having a pregnancy and infant loss awareness day recognised it will raise awareness of some of the issues surrounding child loss, the need for better maternity care, the need to improve bereavement services for grieving parents, better understanding and support from employers, and prevention; to name a few. Contrary to popular belief it is only a national day in the USA, Canada, Australia and recognised in Italy as Piccolo Angeli. In the UK, it is observed and acknowledged by various charities and non profit organisations. Please show your support by signing the petition Angel Parents UK.16,632 of 20,000 SignaturesCreated by Luanne Rimmer

reverse the privatisation of prisonsDeaths have risen dramatically on the last few years, and g4s human rights track record speaks for itself. They care nothing for the lives in there hands! My partner died in a g4s prison and he was treated like an animal not a human being, some of of most vulnerable people in society end up in prison no everyone who goes to prison is bad, they just need help. G4s isn't capable to take care of these people. My partner hasn't been the only death! and many more will follow if nothing is done! Thank you280 of 300 SignaturesCreated by gemma duggan

Stop the explosive madness!Pet owners. The elderly. Parents. Shift workers. We know the cost of a bit of fun. It's not just one evening. It starts at the beginning of October, and goes on and on, to Christmas, new year, and so on. Animals cannot tell that this is fun. It sounds like war. It sounds bad. It sounds scary.29 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Nicola King

Hands Off Northamptonshire Police 999 Service! If the Northamptonshire Police Force Control Centre (FCC) which handles 999 and 101 calls as well as police radio transmissions is relocated from the Wootton Hall Police HQ in Northampton into another County, with it will disappear all of the local knowledge, experience and expertise that currently benefits both Police Officers and members of the public here in Northamptonshire. The local police union, Unison, believe that this essential part of front line policing should NOT be moved to a location remote from its parent Force, or put into the hands of the notorious G4S or any other private company who will run it as a business rather than for the benefit of the people of Northamptonshire. The staff of the FCC are rightly proud of the professional service they continue to provide, and it is to their great credit that they put their concerns for the safety and wellbeing of the vulnerable and distressed members of the public who will be affected by these changes before their own worries about job security and terms and conditions of service.3,340 of 4,000 SignaturesCreated by Peter Middleton
