• City of Leeds: OPEN EMPTY BUILDINGS AS WINTER SHELTERS
It is simply important because no one should sleep rough at any time of the year let alone Christmas, when others are spending time with their loved ones, and during the Winter, when conditions can get bitterly cold. This move would be important because it would provide respite for those homeless people who may have endured months and years of sleeping rough. It would provide them with somewhere warm to stay, somewhere where they can be in the company of others over Christmas/Winter time and most importantly, they would be safe from outside elements, which are no good for the healthiest of people to endure for a long period of time, let alone someone who is homeless. It is our duty, as human beings, to look after other human beings, especially in times of need. Helping others is something we pride ourselves on; we see acts of kindness all over the world, why can't we do the same for the poorest in the city of Leeds? Please, let's use buildings that are no longer in use to good effect and show that the city of Leeds is a compassionate place. A move like this can change public perception of homelessness overnight and we can then move on to getting homeless people off the streets and into homes, into work and living a happy healthy life in society.

  • Norfolk County: Open Empty Properties As Winter Shelters
I cannot imagine sleeping rough in driving, biting winds, snow, ice and winter rain. It's inhumane. It's also inexcusable when we have so many empty buildings. I'm not asking for permanent shelters; just somewhere warm and dry for our homeless to sleep in winter. Please sign this petition. Tag the friends you feel would like to see this. Thank you so much. Charities are doing the best they can, with limited resources and funding cuts. There are many empty buildings that can be offered, purely for winter shelter. Maybe these places can also then be used to facilitate targeted help to those in need of it - for support, help with housing, health care, advice and general care. Charities' resources could be used for support rather than spending their resources on providing the actual shelters. This is a necessary resource and if we pull together we have more than a great chance of being an influence.

  • KEEP HALIFAX AND HUDDERSFIELD A&Es OPEN!
With increased distances to A&E, come increased rates of mortality. We don’t want people dying because either Halifax or Huddersfield A&E has been closed. We need the A&Es in both Halifax and Huddersfield to stay open. We’re the sixth richest country in the world, we can afford to keep them open. More than 2000 people have already signed this Calderdale 38 Degrees NHS campaign petition at street stalls in Calderdale over the past two years. The reason for putting it online now is because the Public Consultation on the proposed A&E closure and other hospital cuts is coming up in the new year 2016. Unbelievably, Calderdale Clinical Commissioning Group is claiming that there has been no public opposition to their proposed hospital cuts and that everyone wants the cuts and changes they're proposing. So we need to remind them, loud and clear, that the people of Calderdale want to KEEP BOTH HALIFAX AND HUDDERSFIELD A&Es OPEN. Please sign this Calderdale 38 Degrees NHS campaign petition - even if you're one of the 7,000+ Calderdale people who already signed the 2014 e-petition to the Coalition government, calling for Halifax A&E to stay open. That petition has now vanished into Parliament’s archive and has no currency, so please add your name to this one!

  • Please release the full text of TTIP, like you have done in Australasia.
Last night, the full 6000 page TPPA treaty was released online for the general public. The trans-pacific partnership is a trade agreement signed by 12 Pacific Rim countries, and it is very much their version of TTIP, our agreement between the US and Europe. Although the deals text has been 'agreed to', it is still under scrutiny and has not been signed. In the wake of its release, I demand that TTIP's full text also be released. Whatever bargaining power and 'holding our cards close' techniques the negotiators were using, is now irrelevant. In the name of transparency and democracy, this document should be available for us all to see. Its a shame we have to make this demand in the first place. This document should have been public from the moment it began being negotiated. But now that TPPA is in public domain, TTIP should also be published. We demand that you publish the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership in its entirety, available for translation and with no chapters censored. Thanks very much. Lydia.

  • Sack all MPs guilty of sleeping whilst in parliament
They are there to represent the people who voted them in, if they are asleep in Parliament they are not fulfilling their duty or role. This should warrant instant dismissal. There seems to be an absence of monitoring of MP s behaviour after being voted in. I suggest the public expect them to face the same expectations as anybody else in the workforce. Our MPs represent our views as the people who voted them in, we the people don't want to see them sleeping on the job, it is an insult to us the people. How dare they show such disregard for their position and the things that matter in our life's. Some of us can't sleep thanks to the decisions those in power have made, if some had been awake or even present perhaps there would of been some genuine representation. !!

  • Please Support Out Of Hours Provision at Selby War Memorial Hospital
The reason for this we have to travel inordinate distances to receive care. This is unsustainable because Selby is fast growing conurbation and, as such, the town requires, as a minimum level of service, a Minor Injuries Clinic and out of hours Doctors' surgery.

  • stop persistent testing in schools
I teach and am conscious that we are forced to teach to tests. This inevitably stops me from being able to target students' actual needs. The assumption that children should be able to apply specific skills at a certain age and design tests informed by that assumption, worries me. Children do not progress at the same rate. The idea that one can predict a target for GCSE when a child is 11 is another example of over reliance on statistics with little concern for the child's sense of self esteem. An evaluation is necessary but we should not have a system which presumes all children can attain at the same rate and should do so.

  • Save The Rose and Crown Chellaston Derby
    * A public house has stood on this site since 1753. * It is a community pub, providing food and drink. It is a pub that can be enjoyed by all of the family with its outdoor play area and beer garden and in this respect, it is unique in Chellaston. * It has the potential to become a focal point for the village community. * Chellaston Residents' Association acquired an Asset of Community Value (ACV) for the pub in July 2015 and subsequently Marston's have indicated to the City Council that the pub is up for sale. * A Community group intends to submit a bid for the pub as a going concern.

  • New UK Passport Airbrushes Women From History
The new UK passport design supposedly celebrates the British 'cultural pantheon' but in 16 pages features only 2 women, despite finding plenty of space for men, as well as everyday objects such as the postage stamp and telephone box. British history contains countless inspirational women such as Jane Austen, Emmeline Pankhurst, Charlotte Bronte, Barbara Hepworth, Elizabeth Garrett Anderson, Laura Ashley, Boudicca, Queen Elizabeth I, Elizabeth Fry, Florence Nightingale, Mary Wollstonecraft, Marie Stopes, Agatha Christie , Beatrix Potter, Maggie Smith and Amy Winehouse - and many, many more besides! It is wrong that in 2015 men and women do not have equal representation on this important document - a document that will be in the hands of every man, woman and child for years to come. We are constantly hearing about how we must encourage women and girls to become engineers, doctors, company directors and much much more, but this sends the message to our women and girls that their contribution to society does not count. Is the contribution of inspirational women such as Emmeline Pankhurst or Jane Austen really not as important or interesting as a postage stamp or telephone box?
