• Change voting system in the UK to Proportional Representation
◾Moving to proportional representation (PR) in the UK may offer would give minority parties and independent candidates a better chance of winning seats in Parliament. ◾The current First Past the Post electoral system is considered unrepresentative, as candidates can be elected with a very small share of the votes while all other votes cast in the constituency are wasted. ◾PR ensures that the parties would have to appeal to their core supporters, rather than a small number of so called ‘swing voters’ in marginal seats. ◾It could be argued that PR delivers fairer treatment of minority parties and independent candidates ◾Under PR fewer votes are ‘wasted’ as more people’s preferences are taken into account ◾PR potentially offers greater and more-representative choice for voters. ◾PR may encourage turn-out and reduce apathy. ◾PR rarely produces an absolute majority for one party, however, it could be argued that PR ensures greater continuity of government and requires greater consensus in policy-making.

  • Delayed peerages for MPs that lose their seats at elections
To overide the will of the electorate by appointing to the Lords a former MP recently unsucessful in standing for election shames the democratic process and damages the established principle that MPs are ultimatly accountable to the voters.

  • We want a re-election-Get the Conservatives out!!
The country is supposed to be a democratic country, the results from the election are raising many questions within society. I have seen very few conservative fans so how did they get a majority. If they received their votes and won the election legitimately then they should not objected to a re-election!

  • Change our voting system where 12.6% of the votes get 1 seat in Parliament but 4.7% gets 56 seats!
The British deserve a democratic system to elect our leaders. The current system has allowed a party whose stated aim is to separate Scotland from the United Kingdom to get a disproportionate number of seats at the 2015 election.

  • Referendum on Proportional Representation
Proportional Representation, whilst it has its issues would seem a fairer system to get fair representation of the population. We now have a government that represents less than 25% of the people yet they will be in power for the next 5 years. What we need is a fairer system reflecting the views of the diverse population.

  • 20mph speed limits and traffic control on Weston Estate
We need to bring the 20mph zones to a part of Otley that has so many young families, along with traffic calming measures and assurances from local police that they will also work alongside the council. The rest of Otley has the 20mph zones so its time to bring the whole of Ashfield in line.... lets not let it take a serious accident.

  • Save our Human Rights
The act covers everyone living in the UK. The policies have been created for no reason other than to protect us as human beings. Without it any one of us could be wrongly accused of a crime, the government will be allowed to breach our privacy, and anyone could fall victim to careless decisions made by authorities. What happens to innocent until proven guilty and dignity in dying? We will ALL be affected. How can anyone oppose any of the following: Right to life Freedom from torture and inhuman or degrading treatment Right to liberty and security Freedom from slavery and forced labour Right to a fair trial No punishment without law Respect for your private and family life, home and correspondence Freedom of thought, belief and religion Freedom of expression Freedom of assembly and association Right to marry and start a family Protection from discrimination in respect of these rights and freedoms Right to peaceful enjoyment of your property Right to education Right to participate in free elections

  • DO NOT repeal the fox hunting ban
In a modern, civilised society, there is no place for this grotesque and cruel pastime. The previous government banned the practice, but the new government is planning to legalise hunting foxes using dogs. This is a barbaric and outdated activity that should stay where it belongs - in the past. We have a choice in this life, we can be kind, or we can be cruel. I think the choice is easy...

  • Achieve proportional representation
The way people are voting now is being constantly manipulated to favour one party or scare them into voting to keep someone else out. We should have a free choice, to include minority groups into legislation, and not allow large parties all the power they want.

  • Stop Access To Work Cuts for the Disabled
Access to Work has provided a lot of disabled people with the independence to work. Without access to work, disabled people will not be able to do their jobs fully or not at all. Since this petition was started the day after the general election we have over 8,000 signatures. This shows how many of you take this petition to heart. I thank you for all your support and we still need more signatures. Once we have reached over 10,000 this petition will be taken to Lindsay Hoyle MP. Many thanks for your support. We also need to educate the public about Access to Work - what is it? The general public are mostly unaware and if we make them aware we will get more support. I will be updating this petition soon with more info on A2W and what it is to help a better understanding for everyone. Please keep circling this petition without your support we would have not got this far. We need more signatures. Share. We also need to hear from you. How has it effected you? If you have not joined the FB group yet. Please do so and share your story. We need to educate people why we need support in our employment. How do we feel without support? Inferior?
