Keep Scottish Water in Public HandsTax payers' money should not be handed over to private companies to provide vital services, when those companies are not open to public scrutiny. The availability of fresh water is one of the crises facing our planet and it is therefore imperative that we guarantee that it is preserved for the good our people and not for the good of a greedy corporate business who cannot be trusted to act in that interest.183 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Nora Ramage

Limit bankers bonusesThere is increased inequality in the UK. CEO annual salaries are obscene in this context and no-one, repeat no-one, justifies multi-million annual salaries. We bailed the banks out. Some of these are still making losses AND paying millions in bonuses. This is plain wrong , unfair and disgusting. We need to make this a top 5 election issue.54 of 100 SignaturesCreated by mick beeby

A call for fair private rents, new social housing and secure tenanciesEveryone needs a decent secure affordable home in which to flourish. We therefore call on Brighton and Hove Parliamentary candidates to campaign for the following changes, and to vote for them if elected: • Bring back fair rents - a “Living rent” (achieved by rent controls) • Protect private tenants with long secure tenancies • Institute registration of all private landlords to ensure minimum standards of fire safety, energy efficiency and a decent home standard for private housing • Abolish the Right to buy and lift borrowing ceilings and restrictions so councils can again build social rented housing • Link rents policy to affordability not the market • End discrimination against tenants on benefits3,112 of 4,000 SignaturesCreated by diane montgomery

Care Before CostMental health services in Sefton are currently provided by Inclusion Matters, a locally run company. Their staff provide a high-quality service. South Sefton CCG and Southport & Formby CCG have decided to commission the service from cheaper providers from April 2015. The contract for the service has been awarded to two organisations based outside Sefton: Cheshire and Wirral Partnership and Insight UK. Staff have now been informed that the new providers plan to make staff redundant. This is despite previous assurances being given by the providers to the CCGs that they would provide a service of the same consistency and quality. South Sefton CCG and South Formby CCG have made a poor decision based on cost, not quality of care. The decision will impact on jobs and on the accessibility and quality of the service. For the good of vulnerable people, committed staff and the local community, the CCGs should reverse their decision and put care before cost.761 of 800 SignaturesCreated by Lyndsey Deakin

Stop Cuts to Funding for Grammar Schools in SouthendFour outstanding grammar schools in Southend (Southend High School for Boys, Southend High School For Girls, Westcliff High School for Boys, and Westcliff High School For Girls) are facing an urgent funding crisis as budget forecasts show that they will not be able to cover costs of all their lessons in the next few years due to loss in government funding. This means young adults of high academic ambition and excellence from all backgrounds in the local area are having their education negatively affected. These four schools, as well as many other successful schools around the country, have long accepted a lower rate of funding because of their grammar school status. All schools have regularly received 'Outstanding' Ofsted reports and this success is in jeopardy. These schools are facing severe cuts and have had to introduce cost cutting measures including increasing class size, reducing class equipment and staff and reducing the number of subjects taught to pupils. These schools have survived and prospered for over a century and through two world wars. They have produced some of the brightest talents in the country in various industries. We must fight to keep up this prestige and continued excellence in some of our best schools. Protect Scotland's remaining wild land from developmentThe proportion of Scotland from which built development could not be seen has dropped by two fifths in 11 years, to 27% in 2013 - an immense change in Scotland's landscape. The remaining wild land has been officially mapped by Scottish Natural Heritage for inclusion in national planning policy. We the undersigned support the Mountaineering Council of Scotland in calling for no further industrial developments to be permitted in the areas of wild land that remain. Protecting the remaining wild land in this way will have many benefits: - Wild mountain landscapes form a vital part of Scotland's culture. - Wild and challenging landscapes inspire people to become more physically active, helping to combat national problems with inactivity; there is also strong evidence that they improve mental health - Tourism is one of Scotland's largest industries, and is by far the largest source of employment in the more remote communities that lie close to areas of wild land (the wild land itself, by definition, does not contain any communities). We need to protect jobs in these communities that depend on the continued existence of wild landscapes nearby. - Local councils will benefit from reducing the high costs they are currently incurring in having to deal with planning applications for inappropriate developments in wild land areas; the planning process, public inquiries and appeals often taking years. - The renewable energy industry will benefit by having been given clarity that wild land is not a suitable location for development. This will save money, time, controversy and reputational damage through planning battles in these areas. Renewable energy may be a vital part of Scotland's future, but wind farms - like all other large scale developments - can be sited elsewhere, in landscapes where visible development and intrusion is already prevalent. When wild land is developed, it is lost forever. More is being lost each year. We must protect what now remains of these precious landscapes.12,004 of 15,000 SignaturesCreated by David Gibson

Save Duncan Place Resource CentreDuncan Place Resource Centre has been an active and thriving community centre for over 3 decades. The centre has a large and diverse user group which accommodates all ages, abilities, sexes and ethnicities despite it's lack of capital investment from local authorities. The centre has offered training opportunities to locals since being built in 1915. There are no other centres anywhere else in the capital, and Duncan Place Resource Centre is almost the last community asset in Leith, with many having succumbed to development and regeneration.452 of 500 SignaturesCreated by Simon Sawers

Stop Bovis Ruining STorringtonAn application for Bax Close is currently with Horsham District Council and has been timed by Bovis Homes to avoid the Local Neighbourhood Plan which is currently out for consultation. Access to Bax Close is proposed through New Town Road - both are narrow, single file roads and do not have the capacity for this much traffic. New Town Road also has a dangerous entrance/exit point on a hill and children walking to school (of which there are many) will be at risk. This is without consideration for the significant infrastructure issues in the village - huge traffic congestion, air quality issues, sewage plant at capacity, no primary school spaces.398 of 400 SignaturesCreated by liz orford

No To Lee Valley TaxThe Lee Valley receives money from every council tax-payer in London as well as the County Councils in Hertfordshire and Essex. By contrast our own Wandle Valley Regional Park in South West London leads a threadbare existence supported by the small allowances that our local boroughs can afford. When the current arrangements were made in 1966, there was a strong argument that the whole of London should help restore the Lee Valley, which was then a polluted ex-industrial wasteland in a poor area. Now after the Olympics and years of investment this is a beautiful park run by a well resourced Park Authority. Yet few visitors from South West London ever go there. The current Government and London Mayor have been asked to support legislation for change, but have failed to do so. Now in the run up to the national and London Mayoral elections we should demand that change. Let us repatriate our annual £1.6m payments and use the money to support a beautiful river park of our own instead.285 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Andrew Judge
