• Don't let TDC turn Thanet into one big urban sprawl!
There is a large and thriving horse riding community in this area and ramblers and dog walkers use the footpaths. All these activities improve public health and improve wellbeing reducing the burden on an overcrowded NHS. Thanet Local Plan talks about preserving 'green wedges' between the towns to stop them merging into one but THEN suggests building on most of the land at Manston so that Manston blurs into the Thanet Towns. The Manston Parkway extends the urban sprawl from Ramsgate to Cliffsend and further land will be designated along that strip as solar plant land. If the Airport was turned into housing the site would continue from Manston Parkway to Acol as further urban sprawl. There would be very little agricultural land left in Thanet. Basically the Plan talks about the 'distinctive nature' of Thanet's villages and then shows how its going to incorporate them into one big urban sprawl Highlighting and developing brownfield sites in Urban Thanet and run down areas should be prioritised over building on grade A agricultural land along with a local plan that acknowledges the importance of preserving a Green Belt between urban and rural Thanet. The Thanet Local Plan has highlighted "Green Wedges" between the towns to help preserve their identity but has made no reference to developing further and further out across Manston until urban sprawl reaches out to the Wantsum. The Council needs to ensure that development leaves a distinctive band of green undeveloped land between the towns and villages such as Manston, Acol, Minster, Monkton, St. Nicholas. Not only is the land grade A agricultural land but it is criss crossed with footpaths and bridleways which encourage the residents of Thanet out into the countryside. If all the areas highlighted for planning were built on we would have: Manston Green joining Manston to Ramsgate Westwood joining Manston to Westwood Westage extending out to Woodchurch Birchington expanding out around the preserved green island of Quex estate China Gateway Built up. Manston Parkway at Cliffsend and further Solar developments. Expansion of Thanet Earth (for which planning has been granted) Building of entire Manston Airport site to encompass Manston Park to Minster and Acol This would make the whole of Thanet an urban sprawl.

  • Oppose Pershore High School's Proposal to take in Year 7 pupils in 2016
Pershore High School’s proposal to take in year 7 pupils from September 2016 will not only affect year 7 pupils and the organisation of the high school (including its other pupils), but it will also have an impact (in some cases a very major one) on all of the children from schools that feed into it, since it will force a complete restructuring of the whole system. The signatories below are concerned about any or all of the following and urge the Governors of Pershore High School to consider their impact before deciding upon the future of our local education system. • The proposed changes are not part of an overall strategic plan for our area, considering demographics, properly researched parent views, funding issues, staffing expertise and analysing what the best options are for our children • Schools are having to work out, individually, how to move forward, rather than collectively • Any resulting restructuring is not being endorsed, managed, nor financed by our local authority • The timescale suggested for change is unrealistic • The experience of all other areas restructuring from three- to two-tier is of major disruption to children’s education over several years (and in all of those areas millions has been injected by their local authority) • Danger is that good and excellent teachers will be lost in the restructuring – and it is good teaching that is at the very core of our children’s success, not structures and processes • Danger that parents will be put off sending their children to schools in the pyramid with such uncertainty over the future. It is certainly not helping Pershore High School’s reputation with prospective parents as it has raised awareness of concerns about issues there that could be detrimental to the welfare of the children, thereby undermining confidence in the school • School management is being distracted by this process at a time when a more onerous GCSE national curriculum is being introduced • Our current system is working well, but everything can always be improved, so shouldn’t we be concentrating on how to do that?

  • Save Brynmenyn Primary School
This is a focal point of the community of Brynmenyn. it has served well is a beautiful example of victorian architecture and should be preserved for future school children. These once common beautiful buildings are becoming scarce now and the sense of community dies with them. There is no reason for its closure other than in the name of progress. and money. I wouldn't be surprised if somebody has already done some sort of deal behind closed doors on the land.

  • KEEP PUBLIC LIBRARIES IN HARROW
We ask the following: That Harrow council does not close down or eradicate the functions and services of our public libraries in Harrow, one of the last community amenities left in the borough. We believe that libraries are the embodiment of social provision and community spirit they offer more than just books. They offer children's activities during term time and holidays. These are used by parents and nurseries. Libraries are a great hub for the digital society we live in they provide access to the internet to those that do not have access in their homes. They are centres for study and reflection: they are places of peace for students and residents to study. They are venues for training and education and a haven for old aged pensioners who wish to get out of the confines of the home. Knowledge is an inalienable right for all who live in Harrow. This is true for all walks of life and should be accessible universally across the whole borough. We are concerned that the threatened closure of libraries will leave sections of our communities with poor access to libraries than others. We believe a modern library can be organised and funded through a variety of avenues and that Harrow council should investigate the commercial potential of libraries before decisions to close or limit access is taken. Please sign this petition if you believe in the universal provision of literature, education and community service in Harrow. Say no to this great social asset. Educated citizens of Harrow are the greatest asset to Harrow. This petition will be handed to the mayor of Harrow before any Decision is taken on the future of our libraries.

  • The truth about the new state pension
I believe that the government has totally misled the electorate regarding the introduction of the new state pension in 2016.Mr Cameron's pitch at the launch in 2013 promised that "the idea here is that for new pensioners in 2017 instead of the £100 or so basic state pension it'll be over £140" This promise has been repeated and reinforced by other government members such as Steve Webb and Ian Duncan Smith. Consequently, most people retiring after 2016 believe they will receive a state pension in excess of £150 a week. This is completely untrue and misleading. Firstly, anyone of the millions of people in an occupational pension were automatically opted out of paying additional state pension contributions .All of these people, providing they have paid 35 years NI, will only receive the old state pension of £113/week. Those who paid into "the additional state pension" will receive, quite correctly, what they would have been due under the old system The question to ask, therefore, is who actually is better off under the new system. The truthful answer is very few people. For the majority nothing changes. There will be only gradual increases to the state pension as people pay the increased NI contributions .Only in 30+ years will David Cameron's promise of equality for all be true. Unsurprisingly, the government has been" economical with the truth" It is all "smoke and mirrors"- a cheap headline and vote winner. My intention is to highlight the situation so that millions of people are not misled into expecting far more than they will actually receive. I want the government to admit their inaccurate rhetoric and publish a true and accurate guide of future state pensions.

  • Stop attacking small businesses
Across the country, self-employed people who are low earners and therefore claim working tax credits have received letters from an organisation called Concentrix [a private, unelected and unaccountable body working on behalf of HMRC].These letters state that the recipients' self-employed status is to be investigated, and demand proof of hours worked. A person working alone from home will normally have no way to prove the hours spent on preparation, planning, strategising, thinking, social media, networking, paperwork, website management or any of the other daily responsibilities of a small business person. In the absence of this "proof", tax credits will be stopped. This will force many hardworking people to cease their business and become unemployed. Small businesses are the foundation stones of a strong economy. This policy will cause untold hardship and damage, not only human but also economic.

  • Haringey Council to oppose TTIP
TTIP will have a major impact on the lives of the people of Haringey. * It represents a dangerous new step in the process of opening public services - including health and social welfare, housing, education and the environment - to unaccountable, private, corporations. * It undermines the ability of local authorities to impose minimum standards of employment, training, quality, environmental protection, energy conservation, or health and safety. * It ‘locks-in’ the current privatization programme and makes it extremely difficult for future local authorities to take back, ‘in house’, contracted out services.
