• Protect Rural Sussex Parishes from an unapproved industrial Biogas Plant
THE TIMELINE 2017: • 25Apr: Inquiry into 3 Appeals against Enforcement and Planning Refusal begins. Legal counsels for Parish Councils, WSCC and CDC, with independent experts to take part. • 29Mar: Leon Mekitarian, Director Farm Fuel faces suspension, curtailment or disqualification of operator's licence in new Traffic Commissioner's Public Inquiry. • 27Feb: Appointment of Philip Gerrard (also Director, Eastern Counties Finance 1 Ltd, with whom Crouchland hold a mortgage & debenture) and Andrew Vernau as Directors to Crouchland Biogas Ltd. • 6 Feb: Statements of Case by WSCC, CDC & Parish Councils for remaining Appeals submitted. • 27Jan: Farm Fuel called to new Traffic Commissioner’s Public Inquiry for alleged breaches of timing condition at company’s Woking operating centre and allegations of trailers used during suspension period. • 23Jan: Crouchland submit 405 pages of new documents for Appeals rendering previous documents redundant as they disclose ‘new baseline’ for retrospective planning application refusal. The joint Parish Councils and legal counsel are left just 9 days to respond. 2016: • 14Dec: The government confirms reformed Renewable Heat Incentive subsidy scheme. ‘all new Non-Domestic RHI applicants for accreditation and those seeking registration for injection of biomethane should have all necessary planning permissions in place before they are accredited / registered.’ It’s not implemented retrospectively so Crouchland still claim large subsidy. • 30Nov: Farm Fuel licence suspension begins. No HGVs allowed to leave Woking Operating Centre for 2 weeks. • 10Nov: After Farm Fuel licence suspension, CEO John Morea - Southern Gas Networks (SGN) confirms "We would expect the contractor in question to comply with the suspension and have informed Crouchland Biogas Ltd we won’t be accepting any biomethane from this particular gas transportation source during its suspension." • 3Nov: Traffic Commissioner suspends Farm Fuel HGV licence for 2 weeks (1-15 Dec). The appeal allowed in part. The Inspector concludes that WSCC’s refusal to grant a certificate of lawful use or development in respect of the two metal containers to aid gas conditioning for the biogas plant, attached to the LDC and the conditioning and exportation of biogas was not well-founded and that the appeal in respect of these items and activity should succeed. In respect of the separator and the flare, attached to the LDC, and the importation of waste and any other materials for anaerobic digestion from land outside the boundaries of Crouchland Farm, the Inspector concluded that WSCC’s refusal to grant a cert. of lawful use or development in respect of these items and activity was well-founded and that the appeal should fail. (APP/P3800/X/15/3137735). • 27May: Crouchland seeks adjournment to EA legal case. • 17May: Traffic Inquiry reconvenes. • 11-12May: Appeal against Cert. of Lawfulness is heard. • 29Apr: The Environment Agency announce legal proceedings against Crouchland Farms for Dec2013 pollution of River Kird. • 29Mar: P.O.R.E receives letter stating “The Gas Alliance Group (including Gas Bus Alliance) no longer take any Biomethane from Crouchland Farms Ltd or Crouchland Biogas Ltd.” and threatening legal action should villagers “communicate any information to any Bodies or Persons which is contrary to this statement”. Tony Griffiths is signatory, former General Manager of MAN UK bus operations. • 29 Mar: Barry Evans resigns from Crouchland Biogas. • 16Mar: Another significant pollution incident occurs and while cleanup in progress SGN disassociate themselves stating Crouchland is separate and they have no corporate responsibility for the actions of this autonomous company. Contrary to CEO John Morea’s 2013 Annual Report that Crouchland was SGN's partner; and from an email to WSCC 28Aug2014 supporting the retrospective planning application, stating "Our pioneering partnership with Crouchland Biogas..." and though SGN have a fixed / floating charge on the property / undertakings of Crouchland Biogas. • 4Mar: Crouchland apply to substantially vary EA environmental permit (EPR/CB3208XJ/V002). • 12Jan: Farm Fuel called to Traffic Commissioner enquiry for breaches to Operator’s licence ie. using the farm as an unauthorised Operating Centre. 2015: • Nov: Parish Councils launch planning fund for expert / legal counsel. • Oct: Crouchland lodge Appeals against Enforcement Notices (to dismantle all equipment installed without planning permission & to stop operating as a commercial biogas plant); retrospective planning refusal and Cert. of Lawfulness. • 1Sep: WSCC issue Cert. of Lawfulness excluding conditioning & export of gas, importation of waste & other materials for anaerobic digestion and many items of development. • 16Jul: CDC issue 2 Enforcement Notices with staggered compliance dates for cease of use of land and 6mths for remaining requirements (PS/13/00015/CONCOU). • 23Jun: The EA attends pollution incident on adjoining farm’s watercourse with significant impact on ecology & ability to water livestock. • 16Jun: CDC inform WSCC they strongly object to granting Cert. of Lawfulness. • 2Jun: WSCC pass CDC responsibility to investigate & serve Enforcement but are clear multiple planning breaches have occurred. • For events prior to 2Jun15 contact PORE.

  • Save our autism services in Haringey
My 22-year old son James – who has autism and severe learning disabilities – is one of many vulnerable disabled adults who rely on these services. Cuts in support services will have a devastating effect on the lives of all these people - like my son - who are unable to speak up for themselves. Haringey Council plans to cut millions from their budget, with services for disabled and the most vulnerable people bearing the brunt. Just before Christmas I found out that the Council has started a very short consultation about autism and day centre service closures. Haringey Council sent a document to the disabled people who use the services. However, it was only sent out a few days before Christmas and failed to mention some key points. The document did NOT mention the plans to shut three of only four remaining day centres. How can seriously disabled people have their say if they haven’t been clearly told what the plans are? This shows that Haringey are not conducting this consultation in a fair or clear way. My son James needs specialist support 24/7 to keep him safe and to help him to take part in everyday activities, like going to the shops or swimming, that give him some enjoyment in life. If he does not get this support he gets anxious, starts hitting himself or banging his head on the floor. And I am sorry to say, he will attack others too. There are so many people like James in Haringey, who rely on day centres and support services to give them safety and stability in their lives. If these cuts go through I fear for the future of my son and many people like him. Without these essential support services, their future looks bleak. Please help us to stop this from happening. Haringey Council wants to shift the burden of care for people like James back on to families and carers. But only the most severely disabled are currently getting services, and many families will not be able to cope without this support. I want your help to say to Haringey Council: • Don’t close the three day centres for people with disabilities (including the only dedicated autism day service) • Don’t cut care and support packages for adults with the most complex needs • Don’t cut social work staff

  • Reduce energy bills
Sky news reported, "UK wholesale gas prices have hit a record low, piling more pressure on energy firms to explain why household bills have not been slashed." Wholesale energy prices fell by around 25% in 2014 yet household bills have not seen any significant reduction. People are suffering fuel poverty while the energy companies make even bigger profits.

  • Save the New River Arms Turnford Herts
Over the last few years we have seen an enormous increase in the building of new residential units in Wormley and Turnford. All of this has meant that there is a huge increase in the amount of people living here but no increase in any facilities. There has always been a paucity of community facilities in Wormley and Turnford and this has become even more noticeable with the increase to the population. The New River Arms has always provided a big welcoming space for local people to meet in, to eat or drink and to mix with their neighbours. If we were to lose this important local resource there would be even less opportunity for residents to meet up. Community spaces are extremely important for local people to come together and to build a sense of belonging to the area in which they live. This in turn contributes to a feeling of connectedness and interest in the local area which can mean that residents become involved in taking care of the place in which they live and in each other.

  • Stop Fracking Censorship
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) has heavily censored the only public version of the Government’s report ‘Shale Gas Rural Economy Impacts’. Although the Government has repeatedly said 'the public should be given all the facts’, this report was redacted 63 times, including the section on how fracking could affect house prices. DEFRA claim this was best for ‘public interest’. Within the next couple of weeks MPs will vote on the Infrastructure Bill, which proposes controversial changes to our Trespass Laws that will erode our land rights, and pave the way for fracking. Two Tory MPs have already urged David Cameron to release the report in full. Other MPs have also asked to see the complete report, yet still it remains redacted. It’s crucial that what’s hidden in this report is released before the Infrastructure Bill is finally voted on in Parliament, so that MPs can properly understand impacts that fracking will have on our house prices and our communities. We all deserve to see the censored material in this important document that our government is keeping from us.

  • Beatles Fans Everywhere, Save The Penny Lane Fireman
" In Penny Lane there is a fireman with an hourglass"...and time is running out. Not only are the UK government cutting funds to the essential Fire and Rescue Services in communities all across the country, the first to go in Liverpool will be one of the most famous and important. The fireman who appears on horseback in the Penny Lane promotional film worked Allerton Fire Station, and the station is directly referenced in the song: "The fire station was a bit of poetic licence; there's a fire station about half a mile down the road, not actually in Penny Lane, but we needed a third verse so we took that and I was very pleased with the line 'It's a clean machine'. I still like that phrase, you occasionally hit a lucky little phrase and it becomes more than a phrase. So the banker and the barber shop and the fire station were all real locations." Paul McCartney (Many Years From Now, B Miles) The Beatles tours that run in the city all take in the fire station as they entertain tourists from every corner of the world. If the station is closed it is very likely that the land will be sold off to private interests and it will be demolished. If and when this happens the city and Beatles fans everywhere will lose an important heritage site. Perhaps worse than this is the wanton disregard for the safety of the people who live here displayed by central government. In a recent consultation about the proposed closure a campaigning fire-fighter who had met with Eric Pickles and Sir Bob Kerslake to try and plead the case for Liverpool's Fire and Rescue Service and this station in particular stated: "..it's quite clear that the people who make these decisions couldn't care less if the people of South Liverpool die in their beds because of delayed response times." This is supposed to be a civilised country waging a war on dangerous extremists in order to keep people safe in their beds. If there is a terror attack, there won't be sufficient emergency services to cope with it. When this issue was raised at the same consultation the chief officer nodded in agreement, and then shrugged his shoulders in a hopeless gesture. It was also stated at the consultation that this will be the first of a number of station closures on Merseyside. Ten stations were closed in the Greater London area last year and this has already cost lives. Let's draw the line here, these are essential services which we've already paid for through our taxes. Please help keep the 'clean machine' running and save lives in the heart of the Beatles home town. Please sign.

  • Stop the cruel rationing of hearing aids
The reason we want the NHS to stop rationing hearing aids and also asking you to sign this petition is because people who are hard of hearing you can experience isolation and that can result in depression. By denying hearing aids you are denying the right of people to become active members of the community and enjoying a good quality of life.. Hearing Aids have been available on the NHS when needed since 1948 and should remain a routine provision. The average cost of a hearing from a private provider is £3000 for a pair of hearing aids this is why 84% of people get their hearing aids via the NHS. The health problems caused by isolation will cost the NHS far more.

  • Northwich 100% clean energy by 2050
It reflects international aspirations but tells our national and global leaders that our community is ahead of them in our desire to leave fossil fuels in the ground. It is accepted that we cannot burn 70-80% of the fossil fuels we have in known reserves, yet we continue to subsidise the fossil fuel industries. It makes no sense. Future reserves, from fracking for example, would simply add to a pool of fuel we should not and indeed cannot, use.We still burn coal for electricity generation, yet a recent EU report reveals that pollution from this costs the NHS £80 million per annum, let alone the suffering of those affected by the pollution. If our town commits to this, at a time when it is being modernised, it can show itself to be forward looking and to be developing away from its former 19th century self.

  • Make the B2177 between Southwick and Boarhunt safe.
The stretch of road between Southwick and Boarhunt consists of two long, sweeping corners which certain motorists seem to see as an invitation to speed excessively. It is used as a racetrack by so-called "Drifters". Tragically, 3 motorists have lost their lives on this road since December 2013. Enough is enough. It is time to make this area safe for local residents and road users alike.

  • Award Honours to mens and womens sports teams equally
Awarding honours in such a clearly gender specific way does nothing to encourage young women and girls to believe that participating in sport will be considered as worthy and respected as that of male participation. Women's sport receives less funding, coverage and sponsorship than men's, by adjudging the pinnacle of Women's Rugby to be so much less worthy of Honour reinforces the status quo. Any man who believes a girl has as much right as a boy to achieve success in sports and to be recognised for that success should feel the need to sign this petition.

  • Protect the Independent Living Fund in Walsall
If ILF funding is not ring-fenced, the money could be used to "plug holes" elsewhere in the council's budget. We believe disabled people have the right to the same chances in life as the non-disabled. We don't want to be forced into institutions - we want the support to live full lives in our own homes. This is a small request when you consider all the other things that "life" has already denied the disabled.
