Abolish Good Character references in rape trialsTo ensure Victims and survivors of sexual trauma are protected during the Court process. But also to dispel prevalent rape myths throughout our society that good character means someone is not capable of rape. Allowing Good Character references during Rape trials is re-traumatising & unnecessary in proving someone is not a rapist. Good character tells us nothing about whether someone had consent, or had reasonable belief they had consent. Sexual assault, is when a sexual act takes place in the absence of CONSENT. Not the absence of good character. The continuation of this evidence by the Judiciary which is at the top of our society, perpetuates the harmful & dangerous rape myth that if someone has a 'good character' this may be considered as evidence they have not committed the act of rape. We feel this is a huge omission of the key recommendations from the Gillen Review 2019. These dangerous myths have only been further emphasised by remarks made by Judge Brian Sherrard KC during a trial in Dunnganon Crown Court, which has caused outrage across NI. Not least the "character reference" which was also given by a priest. One of the key recommendations at point 4 within the Gillen Review, stresses the need for measures to be introduced at the outset of the trial to combat rape myths. We feel by continuing to allow such evidence, does the exact opposite. We call for immediate action from the Assembly to ensure Victims and survivors of sexual trauma are protected during the Court process. But also to dispel harmful rape myths throughout our society that good character means someone is not capable of rape- THIS IS NOT TRUE!!298 of 300 Signatures

Make it easier to sue landlords for mouldI have lived with mould in my flat since I moved in. It seeped through the roof into my bedroom meaning I’ve not been able to use the top of my wardrobe for fear of my clothes getting damp and ruined. I managed to speak to the previous tenant and he had experienced the same problem. The landlord and letting agents consistently denied the mould was because of a fault to the property. The source of the mould was condensation from the roof tiles caused by a lack of proper, basic insulation. Since the tragic death of Awaab Ishak was confirmed to be due to prolonged exposure to mould a few months ago [1] renters like me have felt more anxious than ever about the potential consequences of mould harming our health. 11% of private rented homes have some form of damp (including mould) in them according to the 2022 English Housing Survey. [2] Thousands of renters have to live with the threat of mould ruining their home but also ruining their lives. According to a Survation poll, 37% of private renters experienced damp and mould in the previous 5 years. [3] Many things cause mould, including leaks, rising damp and poor insulation, but too often landlords dismiss complaints and blame tenants. Renters shouldn’t have to pay for the negligence of landlords and the Housing Secretary Michael Gove wants to change the system [4] It’s currently not possible to get legal aid for compensation for disrepair: whether for the inconvenience of living in those conditions or if your health has been damaged by your landlord’s actions. And when tenants can get legal support, proposed changes this year to cap legal fees that negligent landlords have to pay will discourage lawyers from taking on complicated housing cases – as problems with mould usually are. It is only right that renters be able to sue their landlords for damaging their health when they have failed to repair the homes they are making money from. By extending legal aid to cover damages claims and exempting housing cases from the new legal fee rules, the government would make it easier for renters to take action. If failure to keep homes in good condition is more likely to result in legal action, then landlords will respond more quickly to complaints and make sure their properties are safe to live in in the first place. So please sign this petition today so that we can tell the Justice Secretary that renters deserve to live in homes that don’t threaten their health and that landlords have to be held accountable. Make all Fireworks Illegal for the welfare of ANIMALSThe more people that show support will let the government know that they would prefer to save there pets and all animals and people from the stress of bangs from the fireworks. Plus in the long run it would also save the government money in investing in drone and light shows.13 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Sarah Bryant

Stop Southend Council Increasing Seafront Parking ChargesWith the cost of living crisis affecting everyone across the city, it has never been more important for these charges to within reach of people's budget. Parking charges at Leeds parksLeeds City Council is cash-strapped and, in an attempt to boost their coffers, they want to take away free parking at our popular and much-needed parks. The residents of Leeds are cash-strapped too and many people who are lonely use the parks as a social outlet to meet other people. Many families use the parks as their primary way of entertaining their children. These parks provide a large space for families and friends to meet up for celebrations and outdoor walks. Activities such as fun runs, exercise classes, boot camps, charity walks, bird watching, picnics, family games of football/cricket/rounders etc take place across all of these parks. Furthermore, at least four of these spaces are used for Park Runs which encourages people to exercise for free regardless of ability or age. Imposing parking charges will discourage participation in all of these activities and exclude many people from accessing these wonderful green spaces. Please sign this petition and share with your family and friends. Thank you.9,138 of 10,000 SignaturesCreated by Brian Culleton

Abolish Non-Dom Status in the UKThe LSE has researched that "non-domiciled residents in the UK (‘non-doms’) receive at least £10.9 billion in offshore income and capital gains each year, which they are not required to report to HMRC or pay tax on in the UK. Taxing this income would raise more than £3.2 billion in additional tax revenue each year and also remove the current disincentive to invest in the UK." The magic money might not exist but there is income that should be taxed and can help the crumbling public services in the UK.11 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Amandeep Gill

Open Letter about interlibrary loans between local CouncilsHaving moved from City of Edinburgh Council to Midlothian Council I was surprised to find that there are no arrangements for interlibrary loans between the two Councils. Compared to the City of Edinburgh, Midlothian naturally has a smaller Council with much fewer public libraries, most of which are quite small in size and selection. 1. This puts the people in the more rural areas around Edinburgh at a considerable disadvantage, particularly those who are less mobile and find it difficult to travel, with few or no buses connections between the towns of Midlothian. 2. Public libraries are instrumental in “levelling up” and closing the attainment gap. 3. They serve a wide section of the population from families to the elderly and people with disabilities. Would the two Councils please consider introducing interlibrary loan facilities to provide equal opportunities for the rural areas.2 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Family Matters

Save Cricket in ColehillIn December 2022 it was decided by the Colehill Sports and Social Club committee that adult cricket was to end indefinitely at Colehill Cricket Club. This was under pressure from a small number of neighbours who had recently moved into houses bordering the cricket ground. Cricket has been played there over 100 years before they moved in. Colehill Cricket Club has formed part of the community for many years. The ground was gifted to the Club under the covenant cricket was played at the ground. In recent years it has been home to Wimborne and Colehill teams. Clubs that strive to bring local young players through their teams and benefit the community of Colehill. Many new movers to Colehill during Covid-19 have got involved in the sides. A proposal was raised by the committee to erect a 48m long x 8m high fence but we feel this was over and above what was necessary and became untenable due to the huge cost of the project. We understand risk exists when cricket is played but believe a more pragmatic approach could be taken to resolve the dispute. We believe the decision to ban adult cricket is not a proportionate response to the risk involved. We do not believe the community interest and history of cricket in the village has been taken into account properly and hope this petition will demonstrate its value to the local community. We ask you to sign this petition to encourage the Colehill Sports and Social club committee to reverse the decision to ban adult cricket and take a more pragmatic approach to resolving the issue and ensuring cricket in the village can continue.31,546 of 35,000 SignaturesCreated by George Taylor

Reform the King's Coronation oathsOur society today is far more diverse than in 1953, at the time of the last coronation. The oaths the Queen took then (see below) would feel alienating and excluding to many of us today. Please support our move towards a new text, for King Charles's coronation, which is much more inclusive. (In 1953 the Queen affirmed this oath: "Will you to the utmost of your power maintain the Laws of God and the true profession of the Gospel? Will you to the utmost of your power maintain in the United Kingdom the Protestant Reformed Religion established by law? Will you maintain and preserve inviolably the settlement of the Church of England, and the doctrine, worship, discipline, and government thereof, as by law established in England? And will you preserve unto the Bishops and Clergy of England, and to the Churches there committed to their charge, all such rights and privileges, as by law do or shall appertain to them or any of them?")3 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Anthony Howe

Return Venezuela's Gold to its peopleJuan Guaidó - although leader of the opposition until recently - was never interim president of Venezuela - which was a political white elephant in the room (not!) and used by US imperialism and its allies trying to oust the democratically elected government of Maduro, in fair and impartial elections - held several times over recent decades - in this manner trying to give a soft coup d'etat against a democratically elected social democratic, but independent and nationalist government.3 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Eduardo Salgado Reyes

Condemn Jeremy ClarksonClarkson maintains that “ everyone who is my age thinks the same”. This is patently not true and we should show him that. Let’s prove that most people are appalled at his statement, rather than agreeing with him. He certainly doesn’t speak for us.719 of 800 SignaturesCreated by Moira Sykes
