• Stop exorbitant pay rises for top Newcastle upon Tyne Council Officials
At a time when employees are being made redundant, having hours and working conditions lowered, when we are reducing and losing services it is absolutely disgraceful they should recieve this pay rise which could pay to keep several people in a job. They say they haven't reviewed the senior officials pay in recent years but the ordinary employees haven't had a a pay rise for years either. A small percentage pay rise to someone on a low wage won't cost much but at their already extortionate wages this will cost a fortune. A wage increase for the highest paid employees at this time is an outrage and we the undersigned ask the councillors to block this move. This wage rise could pay for several people to be kept in work or keep essential services running. It is disgusting that while people are losing their jobs and services they will recieve more on what are already extortionate wages.

  • Security against weapons in St Helens
After the recent murder of a well loved local man in St helens town centre who was tragically killed by a member of the public carrying a knife, the people of St helens feel that we need more measures in place to protect ourselves and our security staff when out enjoying ourselves with friends. The people of St helens need to feel more safe when out in pubs, bars and clubs and would like to campaign for searches into clubs, metal detection on doors for people carrying weapons, and stab vests for our door staff risking their lives to protect the community. Unfortunately Danny fox the young man who was killed tragically lost his life after trying to look out for other members of the public and this is something we don't want to see happen again in our town. I know the whole community has really pulled together at this very sad time, and I think a lot of the people of St helens will agree with these measures being put into place. So can we please get as many people as we can to sign the petition and show our support for making St helens a safer place to live in honour of Danny.

  • Bring back the promise to create new criminal offences for corporate crimes
In September 2015, Justice Minister Andrew Selous, dropped promises made in the Conservative manifesto to crack down on corporate crimes, because he said there was “little evidence of corporate economic wrongdoing going unpunished”. This decision flew in the face of statements by the Law Commission that existing laws were “inappropriate and inadequate” and was criticized by Corruption Watch. London has been labeled by Transparency International as the world’s “number-one home for the fruits of corruption”, and since the Panama papers’ leak in April 2016, has been exposed as being at the epicenter of an intricate web of tax havens, as well as being the world’s centre for money laundering. After the 2008 crash, the financial commentator, Joris Luyendijk, said ‘the fact that nobody went to jail after such a breakdown means that there is something wrong with the rules themselves.’ NOTHING HAS CHANGED!

  • Chichester Northern By-Pass
It will be cheaper and quicker than upgrading the existing congested route . It will cause far less inconvenience during the construction period. It will also cause less accidents which in turn will save the NHS some millions. It would cut down on the amount of pollution from stationary vehicles which lasts for much of the day on the existing route

  • Stop Barclays From Funding Fracking
Barclays has a 97% stake in Third Energy - the company who want to frack North Yorkshire. One of Barclays values is to "find ways to positively impact all of the communities we interact with". The people of North Yorkshire don't want fracking! Third Energy are planning to build 950 wells over 19 sites which will have a seriously negative effect on health, climate, the local economy etc.

  • Concessionary Fares on Trains in Cornwall
Bus journeys,, are slower, less comfortable and more expensive than rail travel, in most cases between the major towns in Cornwall. Allowing use on the railway would save Cornwall Council money and provide the elderly and the disabled with a valuable alternative means of travel. To encourage the implementation of the extended scheme, it could be made subject to the purchase of an annual railcard e.g. the Devon & Cornwall Railcard which costs just £10 per annum and which also provides a discount for an accompanying passenger.

  • Reopen the beds at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital
68 beds were closed last month, nearly 7% of capacity. Even with all the beds open, the staff at the NNUH struggle daily to admit emergencies. Fewer beds means more people stuck in ambulances outside A&E or lying on trolleys for hours, a terrible experience when you are in need of urgent treatment, especially for the elderly. It also means more cancellations for routine admissions. The NNUH is in "financial special measures" and the accountants have arrived from London to find ways to make £17.6 million savings by next April, an impossibility without very serious damage to the hospital. The bed closures, which are described as temporary, are meant to save money by avoiding the use of agency nursing staff until this year's nursing graduates are available to take up posts. This petition is aimed at making sure the management know their actions are being watched and to make it less likely that they will be able to quietly make the cuts permanent. We hope it will make the the public more aware of what is going on and to object to the slashing and trashing of our NHS.

  • Agency Workers Right to Full Time Employment
Many agency workers, especially in the haulage industry, are being used by companies as full time staff, but kept on the books as Agency employees, rather than taken on directly. This deprives the Agency worker of the same terms, conditions, and employment rights enjoyed by the directly employed colleagues they work along side. Saving employers enormous sums, and responsibilities. I would wish the offer of direct employment, be made mandatory, after an Agency worker remains with a company for more than three months. Exceeding this period would prove that there is a vacancy, and an employer is just trying to reduce costs, and responsibilities at the Agency workers expense.

  • PUT SOLAR PANELS ON ALL COUNCIL HOUSES
If they were to put solar panels on all council houses, it would cut carbon emissions significantly, produce cheaper electricity for the council tenants which would help benefit the environment. It would pay for itself in a few years and the government could significantly increase the amount of renewable energy. Also by selling half the energy produced to the big companies, it would benefit the government coffers and the rest could help council tenants pay less for their energy. For the first few years or so the government would be recouping the price of installation, but after that it's pure profit for them. It helps the environment, council tenants and the government.
