Our West Hendon are a group of concerned residents on the West Hendon Estate that believe that the developments taking place benefit private developers at the expense of our community. We fear the development is going to force many people from our community out of the estate and possibly out of London. We are therefore making the following demands of Barnet Council, Barnet Homes, Barratt and Metropolitan Housing Association.

During the autumn of 2014 National Grid ran a consultation called "North West Coast Connections" asking members of the public how it should get power from the proposed new Moorside power station in west Cumbria into the high voltage transmission grid. On 17 June 2015 – despite widespread opposition - National Grid announced the decision to take forward its preferred option. This would see huge new pylons and overhead lines in the Lake District National Park and other sensitive protected areas, causing massive damage to the beautiful landscape and wildlife. At 50m tall, the new pylons would be twice the height of existing pylons and more than twice as wide. They would break the skyline from many viewpoints and create a permanent eyesore. National Grid provided an alternative offshore option for the public to comment on. The offshore route would take the powerline underground and then out to sea, where cables laid in the sea bed would link it into the national grid near Blackpool. National Grid has always accepted that this route is feasible, but it is not the route it wanted to take . In a previous public consultation in 2012, there was overwhelming support for the offshore route because it had the least impact on the Lake District. Although the majority of respondents to the 2014 consultation also supported the offshore option, National Grid has disregarded the wishes of the public. A number of stakeholder organisations that supported the onshore option did so with the proviso that National Grid takes satisfactory measures – such as routing cables underground - to mitigate the effects of pylons in sensitive areas. It now appears likely that adequate mitigation will NOT be offered. National Parks were created in order to protect beautiful areas for the people of Britain; we do not want to see 27 miles of 50m tall pylons (connected by multiple conductor wires) in and next to the Lake District National Park. We want your help to persuade National Grid that the offshore option IS the best route because it would both secure our future electricity supplies AND protect the Lake District’s wonderful landscapes. You could also write to newspapers, newsletters and magazines; and if you live in an area likely to be affected, contact your MP and raise concerns with your parish council. As well as this petition, we are currently running a write-in campaign to encourage members of the public to contact National Grid, the MP and Liz Truss the Environment Secretary directly to express their concern and objections to taking the pylons onshore and not considering undergrounding in spite of the damage that pylons would do to the Lake District's landscape. They are to the best of my knowledge the only producer of guaranteed nut free bakery products available in the UK's big supermarket chains. The decision to remove this status will mean that anaphylactic customers who have traditionally made up a significant proportion of their customer base (and who adore their cakes etc) will be at risk of potentially fatal allergic reactions should they continue to use their products after the change.

People with disabilities are being denied grants enabling them to obtain adapted vehicles yet the company is rich. If investors stop funding these damaging industries they will have to change their view of the world and maybe even consider diversifying into the renewable energy sector which will not only clean up the planet but provide millions of jobs which will do more for the economy than unconventional gas and oil.

We want the chairman to take real steps to make sure this quarrying doesn't happen. This area of ancient, beautiful woodland, has been used and enjoyed by locals since before the Doomsday Book. This vital natural landscape is used, treasured and cared for on a daily basis by many of the 79,000 residents of Tamworth and more from Hopwas and surrounding areas. The industrial use of this ancient site should not be allowed because it cannot be replaced and because the short and long term damage to the ecosystem in this small woodland will be unsustainable. Planning permission should be refused on many grounds, all relating to Staffordshire County Council's: Best Value Performance Plan Children and Young People's Plan Strategic Plan Sustainable Community Strategy Crime and Disorder Reduction Strategies Development Plan Minerals and Waste Development Framework The objection to development of this natural heritage, extends to a national level, as well, and representation needs to be made to government by our representatives from Staffs Council, on behalf of all the people signing this petition. Lagarge Tarmac are the owners of the wood, and as such, must acknowledge it's value as a site of local and national natural heritage and not attempt to profit from it as a quarry of any kind.

Editorial control of Scottish newspapers should reside in Scotland to ensure that these editors are well placed to understand the views and perspectives of the Scottish People and can therefore reflect this in the news items articulated in items or issues presented.

Services are being broken up and sold off to private companies for them to make profit from crime. Criminal Justice should be above the profit incentive and motivated by justice, the clues in the name. People are being put at risk by the creation of artificial barriers between staff, depending on who they work for. This is very bad for the sharing of information and risk management. Work is already being skewed towards working with those who will be the best bet to comply, rather than according to risk. A lot of what was previously done to protect the public is becoming impossible because of a ludicrous diversion of resources. Staff in the private companies will not need to be trained as they are in the public sector. They will be dealing with violent domestic abusers and others who pose a real risk to the public. The Probation Service was already a high performing organisation that had exceeded targets set for it by government. This privatisation politically is driven and is not cost effective or in the interests of the public.

There is clearly a need for houses to be built, but locations can be more sensitively chosen based on areas that are not in active use. The Government's initiative for backing more houses to be built is completely necessary, but surely it's more appropriate to use brown barren sites than it is to use football pitches for the purpose of building 62 new dwellings. The field known as Oakfield Rec just from Bilton Road exists in an already built-up area and is cherished by a fair amount of people. Logic dictates that it is cherished is for precisely that reason - it's green land in a built up area which a rare commodity in an area that is otherwise concrete. Not only is it green land, but it's actively used green land. Oakfield Rec is regularly in use by dog-walkers, joggers running around the football pitch, families holding picnics, people performing yoga. There's regular local Sunday League football matches played there, and people using the goals for training and Dads kicking a football around with their kids in the only publicly accessible open space around for half a mile. The Government are currently promoting a Change 4 Life program right now. Eat Well, MOVE MORE, Live Longer is the strap-line they are using, but how can that be in keeping with replacing green grass land that is actively in use for sporting and leisure purposes with even more bricks and mortar? There is no other green land within half a mile of the site of the proposed building works. This may not be a problem for many, but for folk who experience mobility difficulties a seemingly simple task such as walking the dog may now become a real problem. Yes, there is a lack of housing, but there's no lack of unoccupied homes in the UK. According to Council Tax statistics, in October 2013, 24445 properties were deemed 'long term empty' in the West Midlands. Building more houses isn't the only answer to the problem! If we are going to hinder our children with over-populated classrooms then is this not a self-defeating action? Should we not be nurturing and developing our own children to be the best that they can be right from the moment they enter school at reception level? Surely we want our children's classrooms to not be overcrowded, and for them to receive the appropriate level of teacher assisted time? For the record, the primary school employed an extra teacher to handle the extra pupils, but if over-subscription remains a problem in the future (and this new build would increase the chances of that being the case) then they're going to need to be creative with how they handle that. Can they afford a new teacher for every academic year for example? With the cuts being made, it seems highly unlikely. This proposed new build clearly causes more problems than it solves and there are alternative measures that should be explored before turning the limited amount of inner town green space into yet more concrete. I urge the Co-Operative to reconsider this development, and to please lease the land back to the Council as has been the case historically.

Scottish Power are one of the UK's largest energy providers labelled as one of the "Big Six". Their organisation is in a complete mess having made a disaster of their new systems last year. Since then a range of issues have occurred for everyday people with no sign of improvement on the horizon. Billing errors are creating inaccurate bills causing people to be chased and harassed for debts they do not owe. Innocent people who are not customers, or ever have been are being set-up as customers and being hounded for debts. Families left without gas and electricity for days, vulnerable and elderly people being let down. Their customer complaints is in complete melt-down and they are unable to cope with the sheer volume of contacts. They fail to respond to calls, emails and social media complaints. They fail to log issues causing people to have to start over again. We have had reports of families out of pocket of hundreds of £'s and left without services. A campaign on Twitter started just two weeks ago and has already interacted with 1000's of Scottish Power customers in similar situations. The energy Ombudsman service has been in-undated with complaints. Ofgem need to act and need to act now. Scottish Power's aggressive sales campaigns continue and in our opinion, they are shovelling more customers into a broken system. This must stop until they can rectify these issues. Repeatedly the benefits bill has been discussed by politicians and the media as being too large that we cannot afford it, despite it including housing benefits, pensions, disability allowances and job seeker's allowance, all of which help the poor, old, sick and unemployed in a time of need. The details of these social benefits are well known and publicised. The Conservatives have just promised to freeze this benefits bill to help cut the budget deficit if they are elected at the next election. Recent research published in the Guardian [1] has shown that at least £85bn was given to large corporations by the government to help make the rich richer in the financial year 2011-12 alone, but with the budget deficit we just cannot afford it. This information was hidden; it is about time that the government publishes the amount given in corporate benefits - so called wealthfare - and starts considering this costly expense as an area to cut to reduce the budget deficit instead of welfare because the poor cannot cope with anymore cuts.
