Boycott Riverford Organics until all hunting is stopped on Riverford land.===================================== UPDATE: THIS PETITION IS NOW CLOSED In 48 hours 4,500 people, many of them Riverford customers, or potential Riverford customers, have made their point that Riverford need to STOP HUNTING NOW, on ALL their farms. The voice of Riverfords' customers have been heard, let us see if the Watson family rise to the challenge, adopt more customer focused polices, respond to their public, become far more ethical, and refuse to take produce from any farm, including their own, where blood sports are practiced. After all, if their competitors can do this, why can't they? The British public are against blood sports, and those who buy organic even more so, we won't except anything less than cruelty free organic produce. ===================================== Riverford Organic Farms Ltd prides itself publicly on its ethics and its high animal welfare standards – a major reason why consumers, across the UK, support it. But away from the public’s eyes, Riverford Farm has, in fact, been actively allowing fox hunting on its lands, and worse still, potentially the cruel atrocity that is cub-hunting. In the early hours of Wednesday the 1st October a fox hunt was spotted on Riverford Farm land, consisting of a large number of hounds of differing colours, which stayed on Riverford land for many hours, and are likely to be the South Devon Hunt. The fact they were hunting a full month before the official start of the fox hunting season suggests they were out ‘cubbing.’ This particularly cruel and sadistic practice involves hunters going after newborn fox cubs, literally digging them out of their holes with spades, with the desperate vixen completely unable to protect her young. The cubs are then ripped apart and mutilated by a pack of hounds; the hunters using this horrible ‘opportunity’ with vulnerable animals to teach their younger hounds how to kill. Those dogs who don’t immediately show enthusiasm for mutilating their fellow beings are shot as “useless” to the hunt. Riverford Farm has, additionally, been actively sponsoring the cruel South Devon Hunt. Riverford Organics customers pay a premium for their vegetables and consumables because they are humane, conscious people who are trying in their own, personal way to live more ethically and sustainably. This betrayal by Riverford Farm abuses both animal and customer. In a democratic society the very notion of selectively policing the laws of the land is dangerous and unacceptable. Riverford is fully aware that it is engaging with an unethical and potentially illegal activity, (and that it has been doing so for many years, in secret.) This petition asks that customers demand answers, transparency - and change - from Riverford Farm, and refrain from supporting Riverford Organics further, while it remains connected to cruel and potentially illegal blood ‘sports.’ We do not wish to be complicit. And it is high time the whole of the Watson family lived up to its own ethical spin. Banks take notice of elderly customers !I have a good deal of contact with older people, who often have increasing difficulty retaining information because of failing memory. I have also had contact with people experiencing significant difficulties because of learning disabilities or brain diseases, eg. dementia. These conditions often also affect a person's mobility and it is not so easy for them to simply visit the bank or Building Society and re-assert their identity, with the support of utility bills, passports, etc. Both of my parents are tragically affected by Alzheimers Disease. My father remains, for now, independently managing his own affairs (with considerable time and support from others). I have seen at first-hand the terrible frustration he experiences when trying to transact, or obtain information over the 'phone when agents are unable to help because he can't tell them the security information; he is unable even to recall his address of the past 2 years. I see that it may be difficult to find a suitable alternative to memory-reliant methods to assure security but I believe the problem to be an urgent and common one. The institutions holding our money must provide the means for us all to access their services, no matter our age, memory or health status.6 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Wendy Wood

SAVE THE WANDERERIt's part of the history of Molineux. On Tuesday the plans to demolish The Wanderer were revealed by a local paper. It’s a tragedy to lose part of the Wolves’ heritage and get a car park instead. Express and Star says: "The historic Molineux Street building used to be a popular haunt for thousands of Wolves fans but closed last year and sold to a mystery buyer. But it can now be revealed that Wolves bought the building from Enterprise Inns and have submitted an application to the city council for its demolition." http://www.expressandstar.com/news/2014/09/30/wolves-pub-to-be-demolished/2,532 of 3,000 SignaturesCreated by ALAN FARRELL

Stop Next using really thin modelsI was horrified when looking at the Next website so see how very thin some of the models are. Girls today are bombarded with images of unattainable ideals, leading them to all sorts of issues with body image and self confidence. These are not the role models I want for my children. By using these models, Next is condoning this as an aspirational way to be. As a society, we have girls struggling with self image and then companies hold this up as both normal and desirable - most girls would have serious medical problems if they were this size. Anorexia is an illness. Sufferers need help, not the reinforcement that this gives. I am certainly not saying that fashion should be forced to use large models. Slim is healthy. Emaciated is not. Please sign, and through tackling a large high street name, show the fashion idustry that this is not what we, as consumers, want.154 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Paula Aliwell

Asda Should Apologise to Scotland!Asda released a statement less than a week before the referendum on Scottish independence stating prices will rise in an independent Scotland. This clearly will have affected how people voted and I would suspect more so among pensioners many of whom are vulnerable. It is important that corporate businesses do not use their position to influence the public by making statements intended to affect the outcome of a democratic vote. Andy Clarke should apologise for releasing a statement intended to affect the outcome of the referendum on Scottish independence and give assurance that Asda will never publicise another statement which is likely to affect the outcome of the democratic process. Andy Clarke will be presented with the choice, admit that you had no justification in what you said on behalf of Asda or watch the power of social media take you down.10,901 of 15,000 SignaturesCreated by Chris Halliday

Stop the CETA corporate power grabThe secret negotiations for CETA (official name: Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement) between Canada and the European Union have already been concluded, without consulting any of us! - Even though Canada and the EU have been negotiating this so-called “next generation free trade and investment pact" behind closed doors since May 2009. But CETA is better understood as another corporate power grab. If signed, CETA will give multinational corporations the right to sue countries for loss of profits in secret courts of arbitration if those countries seek, for example, to pass laws to prevent fracking, to regulate prices, or to raise the minimum wage. Also (like TTIP), CETA will enable the multinationals to pressurise communities to privatise basic public services like water systems, transport and energy - and much more. As the social justice organisation the Council of Canadians points out: "The secret negotiating process, as well as the overall corporate agenda behind next generation deals are an affront to democracy on both sides of the Atlantic." If all this sounds horribly familiar, it's because CETA would have exactly the same adverse effects on our society and economy as TTIP - the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership planned between the USA and Europe (for further info on TTIP, see the 38 degrees campaign and petition to stop TTIP). Here are some examples of current cases arising from other, very similar "free trade agreements" that are already in force. Tobacco giant Philip Morris is suing Australia for billions of dollars in lost profits because the Australian government took action to reduce teenage smoking by stipulating plain packaging for cigarettes. Pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly is suing Canada for $400 million because Canada has introduced laws to keep essential medications affordable. Worst of all, those proceedings are being held in secret international courts to which only corporations have access, in accordance with "investor-state dispute settlement rules" which also apply to CETA (and to TTIIP). This basically gives greedy corporations power over our social values, our legislative procedures and our trading standards. That's why CETA must be stopped now! To quote the corporation-loving TheCityUK website: "Canadian and the EU officials have agreed a complete CETA text, to be initialled at the EU-Canada Summit in Ottawa on 25 September 2014."... (That's only weeks away!)... "The gains to be had from the EU-Canada CETA are potentially very large." ...(Yes, you can bet they are - but only for big business!)... "The agreement – all 1,500 pages of it - now needs to be translated into all EU languages and reviewed by lawyers. Once approved by the EU’s 28 member-states and Canada’s ten provinces it will then be formally signed (probably in 2015). It is expected to be ratified by the EU's 28 member states and the Canadian provinces in the course of 2016." So big business is very confident that this undemocratic deal is going to go through, to the huge benefit of its profits. But if enough of us raise our voices and raise awareness about CETA, we can still force our politicians to think again about selling us out to big business. Please sign the petition to stop CETA.418 of 500 SignaturesCreated by Catherine Danner

Put back Wolverhampton's Hepworth sculpture! This wonderful, iconic sculpture is a local landmark, and by far the best single piece of artwork in Wolverhampton. It is one of only seven castings; the others are all in prestigious public collections around the world. How many other cities and how many other shopping centres have artwork of this importance on public display? It has stood in the Centre since 1968, but was secretly removed in May, on the pretext of building work that will not begin till next year. The owners, Delancey and RBS, refuse to say where the sculpture or the time capsule in its plinth now are, and refuse to give any reassurance that it will not be sold off. RBS claims the ownership of the sculpture and the right to sell it, in the face of opposition by local shoppers, art lovers, city councillors, the city centre MP, the Hepworth Estate, the Mander family and arts organisations. And yet RBS is still 80% taxpayer owned! In any case the sculpture was provided by the artist at cost price, because of her wish that it should be an asset for the people of Wolverhampton. In effect, she donated it. This is asset stripping of a particularly unpleasant kind - taking away one of the few real quality items from a city centre that is still struggling from the effects of the recession. Hepworth intended this sculpture for the people of Wolverhampton, not for the RBS private art stash, nor for the private pleasure of some art collecting billionaire. This is one more example of the current threat to public art in the UK from its removal from public access and sale to private collectors. Plans for the redevelopment of the Mander Centre must be modified to include the Hepworth, and it must be returned to its place of pride as soon as practicable, and a firm guarantee given of this.3,089 of 4,000 SignaturesCreated by Richard Warren

stop all UK non-stun slaughterNon stun slaughter should be totally banned and all sales of animal products produced by this method should be outlawed for sale within the UK. The Government's own Chief Veterinary Officer has stated that non-stun slaughter causes unnecessary suffering to animals. Currently, all animal products should be clearly labelled indicating the place and method of slaughter. Please look online and make a comparison yourself and read the many accounts from animal welfare organisations. While a ban is being sought, please vote with your feet and refuse to purchase products from Non -Stun Slaughtered animals. Let retailers know how you feel.85 of 100 SignaturesCreated by caroline phillips

Stop Sainsbury's toxic legacy in Greenwich Peninsula: Lift 'restrictive clause'The clause which bars other food retailers leaves a toxic legacy by limiting the options: IKEA has now been granted permission for a full-size store and loading bay. IKEA aims to demolish the building and the eco-park which Sainsbury’s gave to the local community. The site is on the main commuter bus route to North Greenwich station. Locals will have to join the traffic mayhem or jostle for space on public transport through IKEA traffic to shop for food. If there is an emergency how will services reach the site on a peninsula surrounded by water on three sides with IKEA at its neck? Instead of 'village living in the city' this is an urban nightmare. Sainsbury's says it is committed to helping communities and sustainability: Lifting the clause will mean that a more suitable retailer than IKEA can move into the neighbourhood creating diverse shopping opportunities for locals without overburdening transport networks and ruining the environment.216 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Lucy Early
