Some street names glorify the people who profited from slavery. These same people were paid to give up their slaves and made a vast profit from this vile industry. Henry Dundas who was a powerful politician in the 1790s who delayed the abolition of the slave trade by fifteen years. His family were slave owners. In the fifteen year delay, some 63000 slaves were not given their freedom. Also, there should be a review of all streets in Scotland bearing the names of known slavers. Change the name so that we do not to glorify the name of any known slaver. Any statue plaques should have a modern interpretation and a full history detailed to educate the public.

On 3rd June 2020, a video emerged of two white teenagers forcing a black teenager with Autism to kiss their trainers at Holmfirth Cricket Club in West Yorkshire. The sickening video was filmed by at least one other person and bystanders can be heard laughing in the background. Racist abuse such as this is common place across the UK but all too often victims are forced to endure the suffering in silence. Given the context of recent global events, we believe this crime to be particularly callous. The repeated demands to ‘get on your knees’ and ‘kiss my trainers’ and the threat to ’slap 50 shades of black’ out of the victim make it clear that this crime was motivated by the victims ethnicity. Sections of the British press & media act with impunity, and more recently there have been a number of cases where they have sought to sensationalise the misfortune of individuals (mainly those already in the public eye, but not always so) to the catastrophic detriment of the individuals' mental welfare. The Jeremy Kyle show, and Caroline Flack being recent examples. We'll never truly know all of the things that were going on in Caroline's mind when she took the decision to take her life. But we do know that sections of the media were quite happy to drag her life through the wringer purely in order to sell a few more papers and it's just not right. What price is a life? This isn't the first time this has happened, and I'm concerned that without a new law, it won't be the last.

Due to an increase in Crime and Anti Social Behaviour in and around the cemetery we are calling on Knowsley Council to invest in CCTV Cameras to cover the Cemetery. Residents visit the Cemetery to pay their respects to their loved ones and it's heart braking to see people treat the Cemetery in such a disrespectful way. Over the last 10 years the number of front line police officers in England and Wales has decreased by almost 20,000 officers with the number of violent crimes increasing year upon year. Additionally, the Office for National Statistics has reported that individuals in England and Wales have a 1 in 5 chance of becoming victims of crime. It is time that things changed and we need your support. With enough signatures we can get this issue discussed in Parliament and hopefully see a much needed increase to the numbers of front line police in England and Wales.

I strongly feel that if the South Yorkshire Police took the time to launch a full investigation into these crimes and liaised with the wider police forces such as West Yorkshire Police in particular, they would have enough evidence to catch the culprits of these crimes; and restore justice for all the victims, so that people can feel safe again parking their cars at night. There are plenty of cases that I have become aware of that the police are yet to gather evidence for (as they have not spoken to the victims, looked at CCTV or investigated many of the reported crimes). Should an investigation be launched tying the crimes and the evidence together, the police should be able to catch the people responsible and restore justice, as well as a sense of safety within Sheffield and the wider community. Not only are the victims having to deal with the situation of having to get their cars fixed, which can cost thousands of pounds in repairs and also steeply hiked insurance premiums; but they also face the added fear of the crime happening to them again, as these criminals continue to roam the city stealing parts of targeted vehicles. The police are pushing the government to give them new powers to clamp down on peaceful protests. But with politics as volatile as they are right now, it’s never been more important for people to be able to stand up for what they believe in - we can’t afford to let this happen. Throughout history, peaceful protest has helped change the world for the better. From the Suffragettes, to Greenham Common Women's Peace Camp, to recent Xtinction Rebellion protests the UK has a proud history of peaceful demonstrations for the issues we care about. Giving more power to the police to shut down protests is an attack on our democratic right to speak out about decisions that will shape our future.

Hundreds of arrests, fines, records & outstanding court cases MUST BE OVERTURNED; our bodies were harmed by police during peaceful protest; arrests, fines, jail time & criminal records followed. We want an apology for anguish, suffering & time stolen from people who simply wanted to protect their families. Government has now admitted we were right - they cannot safely frack for shale gas without risking uncontrollable &unpredictable seismic activity. We are not and never have been criminals.

If Greater Manchester Police fail to act in this instance, the assaults may not be the last by these attackers, or others. SANE SISTAS want to hold a coercive control impact on mental health event. As part of this event we want to share real life stories of women who have been through the family court process. In order to highlight the impact this is having on mental health. Many victims are undergoing trauma responses due to their past abuse. Many have a diagnosis of PTSD and some undiagnosed due to fear of this being used against them. We propose to host an event in 2020 and we want the law commissioners to attend. Our focus is • Women who have fled coercive abuse • Women who have a mental health diagnosis Why is this important? “Crisis” was the word used by the previous Head of the Family Division, Sir James Munby. His successor Sir Andrew McFarlane has suggested that the word “crisis” may not be helpful, but also he too remains in no doubt that there are serious issues that need to be addressed. There has been much talk in recent times of our criminal justice system being in turmoil, if not crisis. Much of this has been fueled by the cuts made to legal aid provision. How is this impacting? • Greater numbers of defendants having to represent themselves. At hearings. As well as this being perceived as a diminution of the rights of defendants to a fair trial and the disposal of effective justice it can also have a deleterious impact. Cross examination by perpetrators has since been restricted however the impact is still present. Many are actively coerced throughout due the lack of education of coercive control. • Higher numbers of Domestic related applications. In 2017 new cases Domestic abuse was an issue in at least 70% of cases in the family courts. This is not accounting for the cases that are regularly taken back time and time again. • Increase in applications: in the period April to June this year over sixty eight thousand cases started in family courts, a seven percent increase from a similar period last year. • More calls to social services and CAFCAS, increasing pressures. A back log of cases in family court. The victim experience A victim can attend a criminal trial in relation to abuse one week and have extra support, with no direct contact with their perpetrator. However could attend family court the next day and share the same waiting room as them. Why should this be so? To appear in any court as a victim of domestic abuse should require continuing protection and the need to feel safe as it is just as traumatic, potentially, as giving evidence in a criminal trial. Yet as things stand little if anything is available. Cross examination has been stopped, but the trauma that is inflicted has not. In fact I myself spent a whole year unable to access NHS support for my PTSD due to "not being out of the trauma". The impact of which on many occasions sent my PTSD into crisis, in which I had to be visited weekly by a crisis nurse. No one told me I would have to share a room with my perpetrator, attend sometimes for 10 minutes when I had spent months preparing, that I would be drowning in debt, that my abuse or diagnosis could be used as a weapon against me or that I would need more therapy then I needed when I first left. But I am not alone; women all over the UK are having mental health diagnosis used against them in family court, despite the impact of the process being a significant factor in the restrictions of recovery and an abuse free life. Many of these women only have a diagnosis due to the trauma they endured, how and why can this be then used against them? Worse so is, women are not accessing treatment intentionally out of fear their mental health will be held against them. Trauma informed support is long overdue in the family courts. Appearing at family court can be a hugely stressful experience and more support is needed to help navigate through this complex system so survivors can recover. This could not only change the lives of survivors and children but also the court throughput process, easing pressure on services. Until we make this change, more women will take their lives, mental health waiting lists will add up, children will be adversely affected and the future of survivors all over is not safe.
