• ❤️ Your Health Visitor, save our services!
Health Visitors provide a service to every child and family. They are Specialist Community Public Health Nurses who care for all under fives from the antenatal period to school age. Their value is long recognised in the protection of children, child development, growth, promotion of emotional health and wellbeing in parents and children. We support those suffering domestic abuse, in poverty and with complex health needs in any way that protects children and enables them to thrive. health Visitors make a difference to families. The effectiveness of Health Visiting is well documented. U.K. Government recently trained and recruited 4200 extra SCPHN (Health Visitors) and yet without the funds in Councils many of these Health Visitors may be facing redundancy. Along with cuts to libraries, Children's Centres and Social Services budgets, the risks to our children are mounting. In Scotland the devolved Govt has increased the mandated contacts by Health Visitors to 11 in the first 5 years, recognising that the outcomes for children will be better. In England these contacts are only 5 with a real possibility in some areas this will not involve a Health Visitor contact. Health Visitors support every child, with the emphasis and knowledge that visible children and community support for parenting is the best way of Safeguarding our under 5s. Health Visiting is 120 years old, babies and yet children require support more than ever right now in these austere times. Please ask our Government to protect our Children by funding our service.

  • Keep Eghosa and Omolegho in the UK
The Uwagboe’s asylum has just been refused and the family have been presented with tickets to return to Nigeria on 28th March 2016. It is imperative for the safety of the mother and child that this is prevented. Omolegho Uwagboe fled Nigeria in 2001 after her community attempted to cut her. After marrying, Omolegho, at three months pregnant, recalls that ‘six women forced her down in an attempt to cut her’. She managed to escape and hide in Lagos, ‘run and hide, run and hide, until my husband found the money to rescue me and bring me to the UK’. Omolegho escaped to the sanctuary of Britain where she has now lived for 15 years. Although she reached the safety of this country, the scars of her escape remain visible on her face and deep in her heart as she lost her unborn child. In 2006, Omolegho had her beautiful daughter, Eghosa. Eghosa was born here in the UK and has never been to Nigeria. Eghosa’s primary school teacher says she is an enthusiastic, passionate girl who is a key member of her class and school community. If returned to Nigeria 9 year old Eghosa, and probably Omolegho, face FGM and the risk of death. David Cameron’s Conservative government have championed, funded and supported anti-FGM initiatives across the country. This is their moment to stand up and prove they will protect the 3 million girls a year that are mutilated. It is essential Eghosa and her family remain in the UK for their safety and to show that Britain will be part of the movement to end FGM. For more information, see the Sunday Times article about the family here: http://www.thesundaytimes.co.uk/sto/news/uk_news/article1680123.ece

  • 20mph speed limits and traffic control on Weston Estate
We need to bring the 20mph zones to a part of Otley that has so many young families, along with traffic calming measures and assurances from local police that they will also work alongside the council. The rest of Otley has the 20mph zones so its time to bring the whole of Ashfield in line.... lets not let it take a serious accident.

  • Restoring the disused railway line from Chepstow to Tintern for a shared use path
The permission was granted by the Forest of Dean District Council for their ownership, but the Monmouthshire Council have been making excuses for the last few years since the original proposal. All over the UK county after county's citizens have been benefiting from these valuable resources for leisure and transport purposes. Why are we waiting and consistently fobbed off with trivial excuses all the time? There are no cycle paths through Chepstow while everywhere else benefits. Despite all the Bills, Papers, and Consultations you pass and now 'The Wales we Want' campaign, we are ignored. This path would enable less able bodied people to access the beauty of the Wye Valley, it would provide business and opportunities locally, and hold these opportunities within Chepstow and surrounding villages where presently people go further afield for leisure facilities. Also it would encourage forms of sustainable transport such as cycling and walking, enabling many people to leave their cars at home. The already established paths in the UK are used by thousands everyday for multiple purpose. Why are we denied this resource, is it because our Council is blind to the future?

  • Stop school fines for holidays
Some parents cannot afford the extortionate price travel companies charge in school holiday times. By the government/Council stating each parent will be fined for taking children on holiday during term time and on the third time taking them to court is unfair on parents who do not have the funds to afford to go on holiday during school holidays. Family holidays are just as important as education. Have a cap on how many days is acceptable each year i.e maximum of 12 days. The government should stop travel companies increasing their price if they want children to holiday during school holidays. This is an unfair law and needs to be stopped.

  • The Government must keep triple lock on state pensions
The triple lock was part of the Conservative Manifesto and was set aside for April this year due to exceptional circumstances. That was unacceptable, the lock was to deal with exceptional circumstances. The Pensions were increased by 3.2% the rate of inflation, but pay increased by 8%. The rate of inflation has since increased dramatically making the 3.2% a cut in real terms. Pensioners should be receiving an increase to match inflation, they are the most vulnerable in that they are on a fixed income and have no way of increasing the amount they receive by doing overtime. Please see sense and also carry out your manifesto pledge that was so rudely set aside last time. The triple lock affects us all. You may not be a pensioner yet but any increases now will be waiting for you when you do retire. We have one of the least generous state pensions in the OECD, coming 26th out of 36 countries (ref Pensions: International comparisons - commons library research) This is shocking for what should be considered a first-world country. Ensure our old age people get a fair deal as the manifesto promised.

  • Save our pets with owners on benefits
Separating pets from their family will cause lots of knock on issues including mental health issues and animals starving and dying in the streets. For lots of people, pets are close companions/Family and the stress and mental health issues for all is heartbreaking.

  • Change how CMS payments calculated to make it fair for all
This affects all paying parents and I believe all should be equal. This current method of calculations does not support all parties as equals. E.g. my daughter (4months old) is not worth as much money as the 3 that my partner is paying maintenance for in the eyes of CMS. Paying parents are then expected to live off no money as it leaves no money left. This forces many paying parents out of work and homeless. I have read some many case studies on the amount of paying parents drive to suicide due to the unreasonable demands of CMS

  • Save CBBC
Throughout the past 20 years, CBBC had brought us nothing but quality (and more importantly fun) children's TV. Things such as The Sarah Jane Adventures, Tracey Beaker and The Sparticle Mystery can be considered some of the greatest TV shows every made. However, it was announced earlier today that it will be axed in 2025 because apparently children now prefer streaming methods such as Disney + and Netflix. CBBC's biggest shows far outperform Disney + giants on a regular basis, Netflix's children's section is so small it might as well not exist and fun fact: Netflix is over $16 Billion in debt ,so streaming isn't actually a popularity giant like everyone makes it out to be! Don't let CBBC fall because of what are essentially lies!
