• Stop Chelmsford Bereavement Charge Increase
The Chelmsford City Council are proposing to increase bereavement charges by around 12%. We are in the midst of a global pandemic which has seen many families lose loved ones and many lose their livelihoods, whether it's jobs or businesses. The financial hardship many people are facing right now is severe. This petition calls for local councillors to get behind the residents they represent and speak against the proposal to increase this charge. This cost will be passed on from funeral directors to grieving families. When a family member dies, we have no choice but to pay this charge. This petition must close on 11th February 2020.

  • Furlough to be made law for Parents struggling with Childcare
Companies are not offering Parents Furlough, even upon request they are refusing. This is causing lots of stress for Parents without any care for the children. They are offering unpaid leave and many families cannot survive.

  • Financial help for parents forced to take unpaid leave due to self isolation and school closures
This is something that is going to affect many families during this lockdown period, granted the schools are open for key worker children but for many this isn’t the case. Not everyone can work from home and as companies are not obliged to pay anyone who needs to take leave to care for their child I believe the government have neglected to consider the financial impact this will have on those that are forced to take unpaid leave to care for their children at home. Who can actually afford unpaid leave? There are no benefits available for people who are employed but earning nothing due to this situation. The same goes for those having to self isolate as their child has come into contact with someone who’s tested positive, there is no financial assistance for this anywhere. The £500 from the local authority does not cover children.

  • Pay parents to parent not strangers.
Family life has been eroded. Child mental health is depreciating . More people want to avoid covid and stay at home . It .makes no sense , to pay strangers with goverment money . When it could enable parents, to care for their own children.

  • Provision of full-time Reception places by 21st September
    1) Enable parents to work - the current timetable is unworkable for full-time working parents. 2) Help settle the children better - the current timetable will require parents to share childcare, placing children in environments they are unfamiliar with. This will add to the stress of starting at a new a school. The school created the timetable to help children settle better. However, it is believed the opposite will be true if parents are seeking out childcare from unfamiliar providers.
