• Save the Railway Lake at Hoveringham
The Railway Lake was formed after the extraction of gravel by Tarmac plc in the 1990s and 2000s on land owned by Trinity College, Cambridge. Local people were promised, in order to secure their co-operation, that, after the work was completed, the pit would be converted to a Lake and an area of natural beauty and quiet water for everyone to enjoy. Now Newark and Sherwood District Council want to allow the Lake to be developed and to change its use, to allow sailing, wind-surfing and sporting use on the Lake and development by the side of it. This will involve the erection of buildings, creation of an access road, installation of services and the construction of a septic tank. These facilities already exist nearby on an adjacent Lake, less than a mile away. If allowed, the whole nature of the Railway Lake will be lost for ever. Local people don't want this, but the Council is not listening. Please help us to show that areas of natural beauty in the countryside have a value and need to be preserved for everyone to enjoy.

  • Save The Rose and Crown Chellaston Derby
    * A public house has stood on this site since 1753. * It is a community pub, providing food and drink. It is a pub that can be enjoyed by all of the family with its outdoor play area and beer garden and in this respect, it is unique in Chellaston. * It has the potential to become a focal point for the village community. * Chellaston Residents' Association acquired an Asset of Community Value (ACV) for the pub in July 2015 and subsequently Marston's have indicated to the City Council that the pub is up for sale. * A Community group intends to submit a bid for the pub as a going concern.

  • Save North Street Mews!
We need support in our bid to stop a major redevelopment and Save North Street Mews! Developers HighLaw Ltd claim the space is "underused", "isolated" and in need of "enhancing" with expensive townhouses and 'hot-desk' commercial office space. All 21 units have been fully occupied for the last 20 years, allowing careers to be made, families to be supported and a strong community to be built. HighLaw Ltd have made absolutely no offers or assurances to any existing tenants to be included in the future development or to be supported in relocation. They refuse to acknowledge that they will in fact be kicking out 21 small businesses and their staff, leading to numerous potential job losses and adverse affects on their families. The mews is an asset to the local community which will be lost in the prospect of a redevelopment that will serve the interests of profit, those wealthy enough to buy luxury houses, and large companies who can afford commercial desk space. This development is not a done deal - YET! A planning application will be made shortly and we must take urgent action to garner as much support from the local community and beyond to try and stop this process and Save North Street Mews. You can help us by adding your voice to this petition and spreading the word! Please join our Facebook group at facebook.com/wearenorthstreetmews for more information, videos and photos to see what we create at the mews. Thanks from Ali and the whole North Street Mews community!

  • Save Our Sunshine: No to overshadowing nursery school
We are a group of Hackney residents and parents of children at Colvestone Primary School. Without consulting the Education Department, and in the face of 70 objections from local people, Hackney Council’s Planning Committee has approved a development proposal that will significantly overshadow the nursery school next door. More than 30 children every year, and for generations to come, will be robbed of sunlight in the outdoor space of the nursery so that a developer can build “light-filled” private studio flats above the proposed ground floor and basement café. We are outraged by this decision. We expect the Mayor to put the education, health and well-being of the children first. • We have an independent expert review of the proposal which concludes that the building would cause “an increase of three to four times the existing levels of overshadowing” • A local resident, Judith Watt, has launched a legal challenge to the Council’s planning decision • We are urging the Council to act now to enforce historic property covenants that protect sunlight to the school's land. Please, Mayor, do the right thing.

  • Save Radcliffe Civic Suite
Radcliffe Civic Suite is an iconic, historic and architecturally significant building opened by The Prime Minister, Harold Wilson in 1974. Radcliffe Civic Suite is of great significance to the Town and if properly managed, maintained and run could be a profitable and valuable asset well into the future. Radcliffe has suffered more than any town in the metropolitan area from the loss of civic pride, history and identity due to a cycle of decline, cuts, closure and widespread demolition. Plans to replace the suite are potentially years away and may never be realised in the current financial climate. There is more than sufficient land adjacent to the Civic Suite for the proposed housing development without the need for demolition of the Civic suite.

  • Save the Orpheus Ballroom, Belfast from demolition
We have less than a week to go, the Orpheus (built 1932) is on death row. There have been so many lovely old buildings demolished in Belfast and Northern Ireland in the name of 'progress'.The developers moved in and they haven't stopped since 1998.

  • Stop the proposed Road Closures Hackney London Fields Ward
Hackney Council are preparing to close 13 road junctions within the London Fields and Haggeston Wards without having a consultation period for the local residents and businesses who live and work in the area. The proposed road closures will have a major impact on how the local residents and businesses will be able to go about their day to day activities. The traffic will be displaced onto Richmond Road, Lansdowne Drive, Trederwen/Brougham Road, Pownall Road and Brownlow Roads and will impact on the neighbouring wards. Hackney Council together with the Streetscene Department have met with the London Cycle Campaign in Hackney & Living Streets and with two local residents from Middleton Road who were selected by Hackney Councillors and they are responsible of this unacceptable scheme. Hackney Council design and engineering department for Streetscene have prepared draft plan of the roads to be closed off but have not issued the plan for consultation which they agreed to do at the ward meeting in July 2015. The Streetscene department have been discussing the proposed street closures with the Mayor Jules Pipe and the cabinet member Feryal Demirci to move straight into a live trial rather than undertake a leaflet based public consultation. Hackney Streetscene have previously confirmed they would be a 1 month consultation period followed by a 1 month trial period and have now gone back on their word.Hackney Council cannot be trusted.

  • Plant road and central reservations verges with native plants and stop mowing them
We have had petitions about Neonicotinoids but the real problem for pollinating insects is that their habitat is vanishing. As a beekeeper, I know that the most painless way to increase their habitat (and that of many other native species) is for Local Councils to stop mowing road verges and instead use the money and manpower so released to plant them and tend them so that they burgeon with a wide mix of native plants, especially flowering plants. This does need a new way of councils thinking and for such things as the Royal Horticultural Society "Britain in Bloom" contest to massively mark up those who do this and massively mark down those who mow every time a daisy appears (just look around Stockton, here in the North East they regularly get RHS awards and mow everything down - disgraceful!) On the approach to Hartlepool on the A689 the local council has allowed someone to do just this. The result is both beautiful and has hummed with insects all year

  • Say NO to Chinese Nuclear Plants in UK
"A Chinese state-controlled company, with a minority French state partner, will build (and control) massive nuclear power plants at Hinkley Point, Bradwell in Essex and Sizewell. British intelligence agency sources are said to be so concerned that they have let it be known in public that they can never know what hidden capabilities are built into the plants’ software." Polly Toynbee. If these plans go ahead they could press that red button and make the UK a nuclear wasteland whenever they chose, or hold us to ransom indefinitely taking over our government and removing every last freedom we posses. Environmentally speaking our government has crushed burgeoning sustainable energy enterprises to make room for this. Fiscally speaking it is yet another selling off of basic infrastructure that we should own. Whether you believe that this is an environmental, a fiscal or a security risk please sign. Do not hand over the UK on a plate.

  • SAVE KIDZMANIA
Tens of thousands of children have used and played on the facilities at Kidzmania for generations. If it were to be lost, there is nowhere in the immediate vicinity that parents can take their children to play safely and securely. It is a venue open to all children, irrespective of their age and encourages them to play together. It is a focus point for the community in Hackney. A place where mums can get together, where contact visits can be arranged when there are issues between parents, where children with special needs can be accommodated. Hundreds of children celebrate their birthday parties there every year. http://www.kidzmania.co.uk/Kidzmania/Opening_Times_files/shapeimage_2.png While everyone accepts that new housing must be created, there are plenty of vacant or derelict properties. There should be no need to choose a site that already has an existing use, and is used by so many. It is wrong to deprive thousands and thousands of children just for the sake of 25 flats. It is too high a price to pay, and the community of Hackney should not stand for it. Please sign our petition to say to the Planning Committee of the London Borough of Hackney and to the proposed developer (identity as yet withheld) that the Community puts children before profit

  • Keep St Erth and it's environment green
St Erth is a characterful, one pub, one shop small village and cannot cope with any further development. With this new development By 3MS Construction on Green lane off Church street, St Erth is now developed to capacity. The ancient bridge over the River Hayle on Tredrea lane will be damaged by construction traffic. Traffic egress from St Erth is difficult, very difficult at busy times. The small village roads are not suitable for heavy/large vehicles. We must stop St Erth becoming another urban sprawl.
