Safeguard recovering wildlife now: create a positive Coronavirus LegacyAs Spring approaches in the UK, the lockdown will mean less disturbance for wildlife in their natural habitat, which could allow it to thrive and recover, while also allowing the nation to reassess their relationship with nature. People are increasingly aware of and connected to sustainability movements and the need to respond to the Government’s declaration of a Climate Emergency, as demonstrated perhaps most effectively on social media. Scores of accounts are visible encouraging safely reconnecting with nature in gardens or outside of windows and this reconnection might lead to a greater appreciation of our natural world and a desire to do more to protect and nurture it. We ask the UK Government to take the opportunity now to ensure that a return to ‘business as usual’ mitigates damage to these emerging species and habitats and does not destroy nature’s hard work. The economic, community and wellbeing benefits to be realised from acting fast to identify, preserve, protect and enable nature to recover while we are protecting ourselves from virus is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Animals, insects, fish, flora and fauna do not need much time to recover, but they do require our cooperation. Coronavirus has forced people to self-isolate, reducing polluting activities and in these spaces, animals and insects may return. We, the undersigned, ask DEFRA to act now to identify where wildlife is showing signs it is recovering or benefitting from the decline in human activity due to Covid-19 lockdowns. We request new measures to ensure this recovery can continue once normality resumes, thus creating a positive Coronavirus legacy.86 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Catherine Jebson

Key workers on zero hours contacts to receive a living wage if they need to self isolateSo that we can safely self isolate without the added stress of financial insecurity. We are some of the most productive workers at this time and our dedication and valuable contribution should be be recognised. We should be guaranteed financial equal to that offered to permanent employees and the self employed.11 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Sue Powell

Make Carbon Monoxide detectors mandatory for every householdAlong with smoke detectors, they are to prevent unnecessary death and possible destruction in any household that catches fire. However, unlike smoke, which at least you can smell and see, carbon monoxide is known as the silent killer as it is harder to be humanly detected and kills on average 30 people a year with unexplained deaths also linked to the deadly gas.5 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Anthony O'Connor

Help NHS workers: cancel visa renewal fees for 12 monthsWe are asking NHS staff to risk their lives working through the Covid19 crisis. Around 153,000 out of 1.2 million NHS staff are not UK Citizens. Many of these people will have to pay thousands of pounds to renew visas for themselves and their families, and pay a health surcharge fee over the coming 12 months. These NHS staff are risking their lives and the health of their loved ones. None of them should have to pay thousands of pounds to stay in the UK during this crisis. None of them should have to pay for NHS treatment if they get Covid19 whilst working for the NHS to save people’s lives through a global pandemic. We are asking the Home Office to cancel visa renewal fees and the health surcharge for the next 12 months for staff already working in the NHS in the UK. A fee waiver system already exists for exceptional cases so the procedures and systems are already in place for such a scheme to be implemented easily. More than ever the UK needs these dedicated NHS staff. Let’s show them how much we appreciate them. Cancel the visa charges.75 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Hester Fairclough

National NHS dayBecause we owe our lives to the fantastic work that the NHS does and it should be recognised as a public day where we give thanks for and wear a symbol or badge that all profits go to the NHS , As the symbol of Armistice is celebrated on 11 November every year I think that 5 July every year should be recognised as NHS Day as it’s inception was 5th July 1948 , We should have a day where we say thank you .10 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Michael Bradley

BRITS STUCK IN OZ #bringthemhomeHundreds of British citizens are stranded in Sydney. There are limited hotels to stay in and the only food available is take out. My mother is 70 years old and is classified as a high risk group and the longer she stays in the airport the more likely she is at risk of catching the virus. If she catches the virus in Sydney she will then have to self isolate very far from home and without care as she is travelling alone. Myself and other families just want our loved ones safely home.98 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Sarah Brooke

Support for Agency Workers during the Coronavirus shutdownThere are thousands of agency workers, such as myself, who would normally have work but have little or no work because the firms they usually work for have closed down. The Government has offered to pay up to 80% of the wages for employed people and will be announcing help for the self-employed but, so far, there has been no mention of the thousands of agency workers. During the current crisis we have no income if we do not work and without firms being open for business there is no demand for workers. We still have mouths to feed and bills to pay, just like the rest of society. We need the same level of support in order to make ends meet. Please send a clear message to the Government that they must support agency workers at this time of national crisis. Thank you.61 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Rick Leslie
