• Please support Social Care Workers
The NHS quite rightly is getting praise, but by focusing on the NHS, many many people are being forgotten. There are social workers working 12 hour shifts ensuring that people get care assessments. Social workers working in Emergency Duty Teams completing mental health assessments and children assessments. Care workers working long hours looking after the elderly in care homes. Care workers working long hours looking after the elderly and disabled in their homes. All are doing this in the community, many without a thought for their own safety as they seek to protect and support the most vulnerable in society. All are now going above and beyond to fight this virus. So please don't overlook the many as people focus on the NHS. As in any war it is not just the army who win the war. I feel sad that supermarkets are prioritising the NHS. Football clubs wanting to give away tickets to NHS workers. People campaigning to give medals to the NHS workers. There are thousands in the NHS working very hard and deserve the praise. But there are many thousands working equally as hard in the community who also deserve the recognition. Please include social care workers. At the moment they are the forgotten as everyone rushes to praise and support the NHS.

  • COVID-19 - Recognise Final Year Medical Students
These young people have invested in their own skill development, and will carry the loans for some years to come. They already face the gruelling years of being junior doctors in the NHS. Now they are showing that strong sense of duty for which our Health Service has been famous. We need to show them that we value their work and will not let the UK Government continue to abuse and undermine both the medical profession and our NHS.

  • Provide unlimited internet access for all on data plans
To give piece of mind to all users who have limited use data plans & to those without broadband connectivity. This would provide unlimited internet connectivity to family, friends & colleagues during the crisis, enabling all to stay connected without concerns over costs. It would enabe many people now working from home to access the internet fully so they are able to continue to their individual and collective work duties, commitments and responsibilities during these unprecedented and challenging times.

  • Teach primary schools first aid.
Many people admit to not being able to respond to an accident because of a lack of first aid. Many accidents could have had better outcomes if people knew first aid so if primary schools had better education on the matter less problems would occur.

  • Save Christchurch Hospital Chapel
It is important that the Chapel remains in site or re-built near to the new Macmillan Unit as it is used by many people. Please support my objection to the demolition of the Chapel, and the proposed replacement prayer room.

  • Assistance for the Self Employed
Most of my clients are artists and crafts people and some can claim artists or creative averaging. This means that the profits of a good year resulting from a gallery show or the sale of a book can be averaged with the profits of the preceding or following year if it would be beneficial. My petition is to try to persuade the government to extend this to all self employed people who are not receiving the benefits available to employed people in the current crisis. One of my clients is a hairdresser who works only in care homes. Since the care homes have been closed to visitors her income has disappeared. The Chancellor has deferred the July SA tax payments until January next year but they will still have to be paid. If my suggestion was introduced her profits of the current tax year (2019/20) could be averaged with those of the next tax year (2020/20) and could result in a reduction of her liabilities. I also do the accounts and tax return for a builder/decorator and general handyman. His work has dropped off because of social distancing. I have several clients but not many of them are VAT registered and the rest are below the threshold. Consequently I am more aware than most accountants of how the self employed will be affected by the current crisis. A temporary change to the rules of self assessment would, in the long term, alleviate some of their problems.

  • Assistance for the self employed
Jobs are being cancelled and deferred. Many face financial ruin. No support other than easing access to universal credit is being offered. The knock on effects will be immeasurable. The likelihood is that self employed tradespeople will be forced to ignore social distancing or starve.

  • No restrictions on travel passes for the elderly
Supermarkets have shopping hours for the elderly from 8-9 in the morning but travel passes don’t work until 9am meaning many can not access the shops. Many can not afford this - I met one elderly woman yesterday who told me this exact problem meaning she has to go to the supermarket when it had already been stripped but also when it was much busier and therefore with a higher likelihood of infection. This stress needs removing as these are not normal times.

  • Student Accommodation Reimbursement
This is important as many students will now be out of pocket because we have had to move back home. Why should we pay for facilities we will not be using??
