  • Save Our Sheltered Housing Wardens
Glasgow City Council has announced that it is cutting all funding to the Housing Support Budget. This means that our vulnerable elderly residents of Glasgow will be without the vital warden support which they currently receive. The warden is a life line for people who have very little or no family and support, enabling them to live not only as independent a life as they possibly can, but simply to live! Without this support, many people would sit lonely for days, weeks or months with absolutely no contact. Our elderly residents will end up completely neglected as GP's do not routinely check on their older patients and are stretched to the limits themselves. Imagine sitting all alone, no one bothering with you or even knowing you exist. Just think how frightened you would feel if this was you, just waiting to die because no one cares. How dare the Council treat our Elderly people like this! Please sign this petition and help save our wardens and show our older people you care about them. Thanks for your support.

  • The right to know the outcome of Election Expense Fraud Allegations regardless of election rules
A spokesperson for the CPS (Crown Prosecution Service) confirmed to the Independent this week that charges would have to be made before the general election on 8 June. However, due to "election rules" the CPS may be unable to make a public announcement about any formal charges. The public may therefore end up being none the wiser if their prospective MP has been charged. There are ongoing electoral fraud investigations against a substantial number of Conservative MPs. Not only do these allegations have pointed implications for this election, but there are also wider lessons on campaign spending that still need to be learnt. Just last month the Electoral Commission handed out the largest fine in its history - £70,000 - to the Conservatives for violating electoral law. This came after a 13-month long investigation into the party’s campaign spending during by-elections in 2014 and the general election in 2015. Far from this record fine marking the end of the saga, criminal charges are at this very moment being considered by the Crown Prosecution Service against at least 30 individuals in the Conservative party. Many of them are currently MPs, many of them will be candidates in this election, and many of them could be re-elected. This can NOT be allowed to happen; we have a right to the information so that we can make a fully informed decision! http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/alexandra-runswick/election-expenses_b_16146174.html

  • Make the Secretary of State for Health use only the NHS.
A Secretary of State for Health who does not have to resort to the NHS, for care has no incentive to ensure the service is as good as it should be. They will never personally have to bear the consequences of their official decisions. They will also not truly understand the experience of the vast majority of the public who have no other choice. The salary attached to the job of Secretary of State of around £135,000 p.a. plus expenses enables them to afford the privilege of private health care, a privilege which is well beyond the rest of the population where the median household disposable income for 2014/15 was £25,600. Press reports repeatedly tell us that the NHS is in crisis and recent and unprecedented strikes by junior doctors show that the professionals on which we rely so heavily have been driven to extreme action. A Secretary of State for Health who faces the same long waits for treatment in overcrowded surgeries and hospitals, or cancelled operations because of inadequate resources will be incentivised to make the right decisions for the majority.

  • Enclosed Dog Space, Danson Park
Many dog owners are unable to let their dogs off lead, a good example is our beagle who is not yet great at recall. Enclosed spaces would allow for more exercise without the worry of not seeing them again. We have some great open spaces in Bexley but none that provide this.

  • Needham Market Train Station - Accessible To All!
Despite significant ‘improvements’ to Needham Market Railway Station in recent years (costing over £700,000) access to the Ipswich-bound platform remains by steep underground stairway only – a physical challenge for passengers with limited mobility, with buggies, bikes, or heavy suitcases, and an impossibility for wheelchair users. Additionally, the new ramp from the car park to the Cambridge-bound platform is well above the maximum 1 in 12 gradient required to comply with Building Regulations, creating further significant problems for wheel chair users. Needham Market is a growing town with large new estates planned for hundreds of homes over the next few years. Abellio East Anglia Limited (trading as Greater Anglia) claims to be committed to complying with its obligations under the Equality Act 2010, and pledges to make its services accessible to all. Abellio has a ten year contract to run our trains and stations and so has no excuse not to make full access an urgent priority. Please sign our petition and support this local campaign. Thank you!

  • Fairer deal for workers in Care Homes.
This kind of exploitation is wrong and should not be tolerated in this 21st century. Long term it is also detrimental to those being cared for as care homes are often short staffed and workers work very long shifts of 14 hours or more, often without a break or food. A care worker I know of collapsed with exhaustion, she was taken to hospital but went back to work on her discharge after a couple of hours. Not even sent home for the rest of the day. That is how short staffed care homes really are. The pressure is enormous and intolerable and the pay is derisory.

  • Include in the manifesto a commitment to strengthen the Hunting Act
The Hunting Act of 2005 is far too weak to restrain the hunters. Illegal hunting is absolutely rife. The animal welfare consequences of this are horrendous. People who demanded a ban on hunting did not want a law that was weak, unenforced and laughed at by the hunters. The police refuse to even try to crack down on this anarchy. The only solution is a stronger - much stronger - law, with harsher penalties. A ban is supported by 84+% of the population. Labour can gather many, many votes from making this commitment in their manifesto. Please sign this petition and share it far and wide - the animals desperately need your help.

  • Testimonial for Lucas Leiva
It's important because we all know how fickle the game has become. So in this day and age it is becoming very rare that any player will stay loyal to a club, never mind a player that has been given a bit of a raw deal by the club over the past 10 years. They talk about how important loyalty is within our "family" now it's time they backed up their words with actions. C'mon Liverpool dont become a business remain a family club. Forget about cost inconvience and do the right thing. We're better than that.

  • Save Basildon A&E
Mid & South Essex 'Success' Regime are planning to cut £400m funding to the local NHS under their 'Sustainability and Transformation Plan'. One of the options being considered is the closure of Basildon A&E department. This could mean having to travel to Southend or Broomfield for emergency treatment.
