• Save St Johns House
This is important because St John's House has helped many young people to lead a fulfilling life, the staff at St John's have cared for and made yps like me feel wanted and loved, something which a lot of us have never experienced before, we need your help to stop them shutting it as we want other young people to have the same opportunity to receive the same amazing care. We also want the council to recognise what has happened to us and what we have gone through , we are not allowed to see the staff and have been put in cars and taken away without being able to even say goodbye.

  • Ban front page political advertising during British election campaigns
These ads are an affront to democracy. In 2015 the Conservative Party bought wraparound front page adverts in newspapers in key marginal seats, including the Lancaster Guardian, Lincolnshire Echo, Eastbourne Herald and Hastings & St Leonards Observer. This undoubtedly influenced the election result. These ads were designed to look like editorial so it appeared that the newspapers were endorsing the political party. This petition is aimed at all political parties and not just the Conservatives. This advertising must stop. It is undemocratic and a threat to the integrity of the press.

  • Restore justice for the disabled
Recent Channel 4 'Under lock and Key' documentary confirms that rational care in the community is being turned back half a century ................................ Restore justice for the disabled The coming election is an opportunity for carers to pressurize their potential MPs for dramatic change to humanitarian policies - but not only carers, but the general population at large who do not realize the intense pressure that their neighbours are under. In my line of work, learning disabilities, I have seen this worthy section of our society cheated out of the quality of service they need and deserve. Carers, desperately need the support of the general public, for parental commitment is not just for the relatively short time that we fortunate ones experience with children who eventually fly from the nest to lead their own independent lives, but for a whole lifetime. This can be into their 70s and 80s, when, sadly, too often they live in hope that their children will die before they do. These people all, to a greater or lesser degree, need the stability and continuity of specialist and structured input regardless of location; there should be no post code lottery. Many years ago, for a very brief time they had the prospect of a fulfilling service influenced by caring humanitarian professionals and implemented by dedicated practitioners. But this was not to last as influence and implementation of policies was taken over by local authorities and self-proclaimed experts who pressurized a one-size-fits all model of extreme inclusion. The contention of the extremists was that relationships between people with profound or severe disabilities were of an inferior nature and against their best interests. They were not ‘valued’ people and would never become ‘valued’ people unless they were involved in community activities with ‘normal’ people and could learn from their role models. However well-intentioned, this ‘normalisation’ concept was out of touch with reality. The overwhelming majority of these people were already within communities where they were ‘highly valued’. Their special needs were being met whilst they were encouraged to broaden out into the wider world if they had the wish and capability to benefit from it. In pursuing their own agendas, the extreme inclusion lobby broke up happy and contented residential and day care community groups, deprived them of lifelong friendships, and plunged their lives and those of their carers into lives of loneliness and uncertainty. No effective research had been carried out, the extreme inclusion policy was based on unrealistic wishful thinking. At the top end of the scale, the more able people became deprived of opportunities of sheltered employment in local authority workshops and Remploy which closed because the extremists contended that working with other disabled people “stigmatised and segregated them from the community”! Nobody fought harder to keep these places open than the people with disabilities who worked in them! But nothing has been learnt, for the original flawed one-size-fits-all dogma has been superseded by yet another one-size-fits-all proposal that does not stand up to close scrutiny - the bespoke personal budget care package. This would be a reasonable option for many if it was affordable but it is public knowledge that financial support for adult social services is under extreme pressure and cuts are already being made extensively. If, in fairness, this option would be available to the 1.4 million people all in need of support of some description, the cost of meeting demand is unimaginable. The highest amount I have seen on record is a budget of £650,000 per year to meet one person’s individual expectations. Current policies are not solving current problems; there is already a lack of appropriate community support services available to enable about 1500 people locked into NHS care to be freed into the community within the next two years. Billions of pounds have been poured into a deep black hole over the recent decades because policies have been influenced and implemented by more than 120 town hall administrators - this has now been extended by a substantial number of Commissioners. The impending election offers an outstanding opportunity put an end to this utter waste, and demonstrate that a new government will put humanitarian values above party political needs. All levels of disability are under pressure and need consideration. There are no easy answers, but for those with learning disabilities historical experience has shown that there have been better solutions. 50,000 people were liberated from institutions when policies were influenced and implemented by experienced and caring leaders and practitioners. This period of development has been airbrushed out of history - but it needs to come back. There are still people capable of bringing it back and leading a single service agency with its own Minister that could revitalise the outlook for people with learning disabilities at all levels. The next seven weeks provide an opportunity to assess the calibre of those seeking election or re-election. If we cannot get a cross-party mandate right for the most profoundly disadvantaged and deserving people in our society, what hope is there for the rest?

  • No General Election until resolution of Conservative MP election Fraud charges
A General Election should not go ahead with the prior knowledge that numerous Conservative Members of Parliament "MP's" representing constituencies across the United Kingdom are facing criminal charges relating to election fraud during the last general election. We can not have MPs we know now may be convicted standing for their constituencies in the proposed June 8th general election. The next election should be entered in to only after the MPs identified by the Police and charged by Criminal Prosecution Services "CPS" have faced those charges and the courts have reached a final verdict against all counts raised and each MP charged.

  • The BBC to give equal coverage to all political parties during the 2017 general election campaign
The BBC has been accused of biased and unbalanced reporting in the past. As this election campaign is incredibly short it is very important that the public are given a fair and balanced view of their choices. The BBC must not allow itself to be used as a tool of propaganda for any party. As a publicly funded organisation it absolutely must not allow itself to have any political bias.

  • PROTECT GREEN PUBLIC OPEN SPACES, HORLEY, SURREY
These 2 pieces of green situated between Landen Park and Arne Grove in Horley, Surrey, were designated as 'PUBLIC OPEN SPACES' when the housing estate was designed and built in the early 1970s. These green spaces are used and enjoyed every day by residents of all ages for activities such as walking, dog walking, cycling and playing. They have also been used for community celebrations such as for the Queen's Jubilees. The green areas provide a vital habitat for local wildlife including birds and bats. The space creates a visual break for residents, and these areas have been an important factor in many residents' decision to move into the estate over the last 40 plus years. This land is now being threatened with development. As residents we are already being impacted by the huge development to the north-west of us at the Westvale Park site. Building on these areas would bring even more traffic to two already crowded cul-de-sacs, creating risks for local children who play and walk these streets. For the health, well-being and sustainability of community and family life, and for the protection of local wildlife, we must protect these precious green spaces.

  • No election until tory election expenses reports published
It is inconceivable that we have a new election while there are serious questions to be answered about the last one, which could have an effect on this government's majority, and the outcome of a new election. It is reported that there are twenty-nine Conservative party seats which are being investigated for exceeding spending limits, which could result in bye elections in those seats, and which therefore could remove the government's majority. It is clearly absurd to have a government which might not be valid to call another election to justify their possibly invalid previous election. The public deserves to know what actually happened in the last election and it is likely that some, if not many, people would vote differently if they knew that the governing party had acted illegally in the last election. We cannot have another election while the result of the previous one is still open to question, with the possible result that the government has no majority, no mandate and no authority to call another election.

  • We want Leaders debates on TV
Prime Minister Mrs. May announced snap elections in an abrupt way to be held on 8th June 2017. We heard that there will be no leadership debates on this occasion. We have leadership debates in recent years and why not this time. We are passing through a transitional period and our country is facing very serious challenges, we the voters want to listen how our next Prime Minister will deal with the issues of Brixit, making deal with EU, how to protect our economy and interests of the working class. If PM has a concrete agenda to address all these issues, she shouldn't hesitate to participate in live TV debates. Voters have a right to listen their leaders and ask them questions.

  • Stop zero hours contracts in the NHS
A lot has been said about the abuses of zero-hour contracts in the private sector but did you know that the NHS also uses them? The consequences are the same for hard-working employees doing vital jobs in our health service as they are for workers in shops and factories: Uncertainty from week to week around hours, income, shift patterns with an inability to plan holidays and time-off. It is very hard for staff in these positions to decline shifts, however unreasonable the timing, let alone complain as they risk the management regarding them as troublemakers. Bill* is a porter for an NHS trust working a zero-hour contract. He never knows more than a week in advance what his hours will be. When in work he often does 12 hour night shifts moving patients, sometimes when critically ill, to and from theatres, X-ray or even the morgue. He applied to have a week off 3 months in advance and was told to come back nearer the time, then when he did so he was told that he had been rostered for that week and had to take unpaid leave. Gordon* is another porter who, after 10 consecutive days of night shifts was required to take holiday to have a 2 day break. Eric* would like to visit his girlfriend's family overseas but cannot book a budget flight in advance as he is unable to be confident that he will get time off. Pete* missed a family wedding in a different part of the country when he was given only the day itself off and could not fit in the necessary travelling time. Without a guaranteed weekly income people on zero-hours contracts do not know how many hours they will be asked to work in a week which can result in periods with very low income making it difficult to support a family. Another problem that I am aware of is people being called in for very short shifts that can be as short as 2 hours – despite incurring the same travelling costs and time as a full shift. Some valuable and important workers in the NHS are employed on zero-hours contracts, porters for example, and that this can continue for multiple years. Although these roles are not glamorous they are essential for the efficient running of hospitals. Please sign my petition to speak up for these vital but exploited workers in the NHS. This should be a national policy covering all hospitals.

  • Make May appear in GE TV Debates
On April 18 Theresa May called for a General Election on June 8 in order to strengthen her Party's position in Parliament, going against the Fixed Term Parliament Act. However, in a bid to avoid scrutiny, she has ruled out appearing in any TV debates, robbing the public of further democratic debate
