• Stop Tetrosyl Storing Hazardous Chemicals in Castleton Rochdale
Tetrosyl, the largest producer and supplier of car care products in Europe and the largest independent oil blender in Europe is potentially endangering the life of Castleton residents by applying for Hazardous Substance Consent to store its products on its site as close as 270 cm to the nearest houses in the village (population 11,000*). Tetrosyl intends to store thousands of tonnes of hazardous products containing toxic chemical/gases some of which are flammable and/or highly explosive on their Royle Barn Road site. Their list includes include aerosols containing household and car maintenance products (2,000 tonnes); peroxide hardeners (150 tonnes); household, car cleaning and maintenance products (6,000 tonnes) and oils, fragrances and maintenance sprays (1,500 tonnes ) . This equates to 1.14 tonnes per resident at any given time. Castleton residents have good reasons to be frightened . Tetrosyl is located on the former Woolworths NW Distribution site, which was decimated by fire in 1971. Prior to this, in 1960, the ‘fireproof’ Dunlop mill in Castleton was engulfed by fire, tragically claiming the life of employee Charles Watson and injuring others. Only four months ago there was a huge blaze at the former Castleton Carcraft site . The Tetrosyl site is surrounded by a primarily residential area with houses, schools, leisure facilities, local businesses, shops, railway station (next to the site) and the canal (Site of Specific Scientific Interest and Special Conservation Area). It is directly opposite an electrical substation, and adjacent to the Soccer Factory, well-attended by school children with over 100 attending the facility at weekends. Hazardous chemicals like these, and in these quantities, should not be stored near a densely-populated residential area. As one resident said ‘Whilst we want to see new businesses bringing jobs to Castleton, not at any price, and the danger these chemicals pose is a price too high‘. Please support Castleton residents opposed to the granting of consent for Tetrosyl to store Hazardous Substances in the heart of their village. (*source 2011 census)

  • Make Pearson change transgender certificate policy.
Requesting a GRC or doctor's letter is in breach of the Equality Act 2010. "By changing their name trans people automatically have the protected characteristic of gender reassignment under the Equality Act 2010" (uktrans.info - http://uktrans.info/attachments/article/292/transqualcerts.pdf), creating the protected characteristic of gender reassignment. This effectively means that Pearson's requirements are discriminatory, as well as in breach of the Equality Act 2010. Trans individuals already experience enough discrimination trying to live life day-to-day, and several people I have contacted have also experienced discrimination at Pearson's hands. It's time to change to a level playing field so that we, as trans individuals, receive the qualifications we worked hard to gain, in the correct, accurate gender and name.

  • Temple Newsam Park - say NO to Go Ape!
Temple Newsam Park is a free public park to be enjoyed by everyone. Should these plans go ahead, some areas of the park may be restricted, especially entry/exits to the equipment, the noise from participants will spoil the peaceful calm currently enjoyed. Parking is also an issue, especially at weekends - there just arent enough spaces to accommodate this - any new parking areas would mean taking more of the green available space of the park. Road access to the park will be put under further pressure. There is the issue of felling existing trees to make way for this, disturbance to the natural wild life and bird life living in the park. Temple Newsam is beautiful as it is, it does not need enhancing, please sign the petition in support.

  • All parents to receive basic first aid training
Every parent worries about their child's health and wellbeing but not many know how to save their child if needed. I believe every parent (or even grandparent) should learn basic first aid to be able to help their children. My brother died of 'cot death' at 5 weeks old in 1988, my dad knew CPR and did everything he could to save him but it was too late. I did a basic first aid course last year and had to use that knowledge when my 14 month old son choked yesterday. Luckily he is absolutely fine but if I had not attended that course it may have been a different outcome! My point is that you can't save everyone (obviously my brother couldn't be saved ) but at least my dad knew what to do to try and save him, and I was able to stop my son from choking. All parents love their children and want them to be heathy but how many would know what to do in an emergency?

  • Stop the closure of ashford/st Peters NHS trust paediatrics department!!!!
I feel (like many other patients parents)that this is very important in the interests of the wellbeing of our child patient's.the trust that the children have in the consultants, nurses & admin is unequivocally solid. To be able to gain a neurological child's trust isn't easy by any means & these professionals have that knack off to a T. To water down or closed it down (as you're department put it, in to the community. ie:camhs) unbelievably stupid! Excuse that, but from my experience (many other's experience also). camhs couldn't make a decent cup of tea. They certainly wouldn't be able to cope with the influx of child patients from a closed down paediatric department....

  • Don't force our GP surgeries into Submission
As a member of the public I was somewhat distressed to learn that you have issued massive rent increases to GP surgeries in England which have been backdated to April 2016. According to Practice Business (3/4/2017) "The NHS lost 445 full-time GPs between September and December 2016" which are now down to 34,050 when the NHS promised to hire more. How will your rent increases encourage junior doctors to train as general practitioners? How is this supporting the health and wellbeing of all patients in England? Please retract these abhorrent rent increases immediately.

  • Get Louis Theroux to come to Balter Festival
Because he's a fucking legend and I believe that not only would he be an excellent addition to the festival, but that he would learn a great deal from it, and it would be for the weird weekends to get an insight into our culture.

  • Traffic management in Hele Park, Newton Abbot
The design and layout of roads within the Hele Park development has resulted in a number of 'Rat Runs' where cars are traveling at excessive speeds and across unmarked junctions. There is a need for junctions to be marked with the appropriate lines to indicate road priorities to prevent accidents.
