Student misery from the Renters Reform BillIf the current proposals that prevent private landlords letting on a fixed term basis aren't amended, students that would currently choose their accommodation in January for the following academic year won't be able to do so until probably May, right in the middle of their exams. So instead of concentrating on their exams, they'll be rushing around, trying to find a suitable place to live. That will cause enormous stress and is completely avoidable. If the plcs like Unite can let to students on a fixed term basis, then why can't private landlords? A large number of universities have already written to the government to demand that students have fixed term tenancies because they can foresee the problems that will be visited on their own students.18 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Martin Thomas

4 day weekParents can share childcare more frequently so both can contribute and play active roles in attending school and extra curricular activities. Children's medical needs can also be met more easily for single parents. Economical profits will regulate and steady across the board rather than become extra busy on every weekend. Traffic will decrease too rather than build up every Friday for the weekend getaway. Employment levels will increase for organisations that are open for more than 4 days with staff on a 4 day rota. Peak times like Xmas, easter, summer will also regulate for motorists, commuters and superstores as people are able to accomplish more during the week. The nation will be less stressed, finances and relationships will improve. Covid has seen millions of businesses shut down, the public is needed to boost the economy, an extra day off means more time for leisure, dining out and pleasure buying. St. Mary's Primary school should NOT be on the list of potential closures! On the 26th of May 2023 The Isle of Wight Echo and The County Press published a report outlining the prospective closure of St Marys Catholic Primary School Ryde. These reports were published before consultation with St Marys staff or school community. We view these actions as inconsiderate and unnecessary. St Marys Catholic Primary school is very much valued by our school community, parents, pupils and teachers alike. As parents, we are the primary educators of our children and have chosen St Mary’s because it’s values and ethos align with our own. As a church school community these values are of utmost importance to us. The prospect of removing St Mary’s from our community would disallow our children to be educated according to our spiritual beliefs and values. Our children have the right to attend school within their locality and the local secular schools would not educate our children in the values and practices that are so important to our faith. Ryde is a large town and second in population only to Newport and as such, should have our own Catholic provision. As a church maintained school we have contributed the required 10% in funds from our community and diocese, which must be acknowledged by the Local Education Authority. These are funds that the LEA are not required to pay. Our children are happy and settled at St Mary’s Primary School, many families are very much committed to the school and have numerous siblings that attend. As parents we oppose the proposed closure of St Mary’s and demand that we are properly informed and consulted with regarding this prospective closure.6 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Jasmin Callan-Ford

Petition against Proposed Spar Development in Smithy BridgeDear Customer We, the undersigned residents, business owners, and concerned members of the community, write this petition to express our strong opposition to the proposed demolition of the existing car sales/garage and the subsequent construction of a SPAR convenience store with an ATM machine, car parking, external lighting, landscaping, and associated works at the proposed site. We firmly believe that the proposed location for the SPAR convenience store is unsuitable for several reasons, which we outline below: Local Traffic Problems: The current traffic situation in the area is already a significant concern. The addition of a convenience store at this location would exacerbate the traffic congestion, resulting in severe disruptions and safety hazards for both pedestrians and motorists. The increased customer and delivery vehicle movements would cause chaos and further burden the already strained road infrastructure. Entrance to Site for Customers and Deliveries: The entrance proposed for customers and deliveries is ill-conceived and inappropriate for the area. The site's access points would create bottlenecks and hinder smooth traffic flow. The resultant congestion would create inconvenience for local residents, obstruct access to neighboring businesses, and compromise road safety. Negative Impact on Local Historic Retail Business: The proposed construction of a large-scale convenience store with a significant range of products and services would have a detrimental impact on the existing local historic retail businesses. These small-scale enterprises are an integral part of our community and contribute to its character and charm. The introduction of a major chain store would threaten their viability and potentially lead to the loss of these beloved establishments. Incompatibility with the Local Environment: The addition of external lighting, extensive landscaping, and associated works would alter the aesthetic and environmental balance of the area. It could disrupt the existing natural beauty and compromise the visual appeal of the neighborhood. The proposed development fails to consider the preservation of the local landscape and disregards the importance of maintaining the character of the community. Therefore, we, the undersigned, request the following actions to be taken: Halt the demolition of the car sales/garage and reconsider the suitability of the proposed site for the SPAR convenience store. Conduct a comprehensive traffic impact assessment to evaluate the potential negative consequences on local traffic patterns, road safety, and the overall well-being of the community. Engage in meaningful consultations with local residents, business owners, and stakeholders to understand their concerns and explore alternative solutions that are more compatible with the area. Preserve and protect the existing historic retail businesses that contribute to the uniqueness of our community. We believe that our concerns are valid and representative of the broader sentiment within the community. By signing this petition, we express our collective opposition to the proposed development and urge you to reconsider the plans for the sake of our community's well-being and the preservation of its character. Thank you for your attention to this matter. We kindly request a prompt response regarding the actions taken in response to our petition. Please give your name, address and the date to show support for this petition.2 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Rick Attwood

Save our College!Melton Mowbray once had a thriving, busy College with a well equipped Leisure Centre, engineering workshops, hairdressing salon, commercial kitchen, nursery and numerous classrooms offering courses in pre-nursing, early years, electrical, automotive and mechanical engineering, welding, hairdressing, catering, GCSEs, A levels, admin and business studies as well as courses for students with special needs. Many of these courses have gone, never to return, and we are now in danger of losing the rest as Brooksby Melton College looks to move all courses, except Drama, to its Brooksby campus. Buses to Leicester don't tie in with course timings so this will mean all students needing their own transport out to Brooksby. And what will happen to the campus in Melton? We have already lost the leisure centre and now we could lose all the rest. Please sign this petition to ask the Education Minister to intervene and stop the loss of this important facility.1 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Carolyn Lamb

Don't let Palantir near our NHSPalantir was formed by the CIA and its expertise is in surveillance and border security, NOT health or patient data. Palantir is fully American owned. There is no guarantee that your patient data won't be harvested and stored outside the UK. This would make it very difficult to police the security of your data. Although the data is meant to be anonymised various organisations could get hold of the means of restoring personal data from the database.26 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Bruce Morton

Promote Carbon free housing in major cities in the U.K today!Energy efficiency in the housing sector is important for achieving carbon neutrality; to achieve this, more net-zero energy houses (ZEHs) are required. (Amada, K. et al. (2022). The importance of energy efficient housing is everywhere. Leeds realising the need is a huge sustainable development goal for the city and the start of our campaign. With major cities Introducing carbon free housing this campaign should help to kick start the growing trend of building only carbon free homes. It is estimated that the housing sector is responsible for over ‘27% of the total CO2 in the UK, accounting for 149 million tonnes. The equivalent of 2.5 tonnes per resident.’ (Coates, L. E, 2010). New housing presents an ‘opportunity for best practise energy solutions to be installed now, with a view for the future.’ (Coates, L. E, 2010). With social housing expected to lead the way, this is a perfect opportunity for the Leeds and other major cities. Not only will carbon free housing help with making housing more affordable but will drastically reduce emissions, which is desperately needed in major cities in the u.k like Leeds and Manchester. You can sign up to our campaign at the bottom of this website to help push this initiative! The goal of carbon-free housing is to significantly reduce or eliminate the carbon emissions associated with residential buildings. By combining energy-efficient design, renewable energy generation, sustainable materials, and mindful consumption. Carbon-free housing contributes to mitigating climate change and creating a more sustainable future; this is why it’s so important to join our campaign and get the word out about this initiative. This campaign to implement more carbon free housing will allow for homes to become more affordable to live in, creating renewable energy to keep living costs down. With average fuel bills rising by ‘83% between April 2021 and April 2022’. The zero carbon homes initiative is necessary and a positive reaction to the rising demand for affordable housing in Leeds. “To make all homes healthy, affordable, and net zero will cost over £5.5bn (Arup/BEIS, 2021) with around £860m needed for council homes and over £4.7bn for all other homes”. (Leeds.gov.uk, 2022). Despite the initial cost, carbon free homes will benefit us and the environment for years to come sustainably. It will give back to the environment in a cost effective way.2 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Lucy walford
