• Creech Pothole Watch
We have also had the recent destruction of our local lanes at Leighton Lane, Easton Lane, Bagborough Lane and Maesdown Hill, affecting the communities of Evercreech, Stoney Stratton, Pylle, Prestleigh, Pilton and beyond. Please also sign my petition below, lets get this issue sorted! In I agree that the state of our communities roads is unacceptable and that Somerset County Council has h failed o maintain and renew our vital B road network, drains and our verges. This has been made even worse since recent works on Prestleigh Hill 1. I therefore urge County to listen to residents and prioritize roads used by local communities and put on place a proper resurfacing plan that will connect villages and value villages as much as our county A roads. 2. A proper plan to make good the damage done in and around the Village of Evercreech through the many road diversions and the unique pressure out on out B road network due to our proximity to two festival sites that attract thousands of vital visitors on roads designed in the age before the modern motorcar. Decent local Roads are vital for Residents, Local Business and Farmers.

  • Domestic violence offenders register
This is important because whilst there is Claire’s law for people to check this requires information which sometimes isn’t accessible such as previous address from people who have committed crimes. I personally have been in a domestically violent relationship and had there been a more easier way to check then things may not have escalated as far as they did. The information wasn’t easily available to me and I fear other people like myself have struggled to get valuable information that could’ve saved them from harm or potentially reduced it. It’s sad we live in a place where an offender can lie about what happened in a previous relationship and make out that their victim was actually the one at fault, why should their crime disappear from their life as soon as it’s been through court, their police record is private to them unless they wish to share it. This was anyone can view what they have done and have better awareness for themselves, their children, their family and protect themselves with the information that should be accessible!

  • Covid-19: Prohibit supermarkets from using Plastic Bags in delivery and collection services
Since the first UK lockdown, competition laws were relaxed by the government, waiving the 5p bag fee for online deliveries and collection. That has led to supermarkets using hundreds of thousands of plastic bags against the wishes of consumers. Over several decades leading up to 2020, the UK has worked to reduce waste from single-use disposable objects such as straws, utensils, coffee cups, beverage bottles and plastic bags. Possibly the most encouraging shift we witnessed, was the change in social norms around plastic waste; habitually taking our reusable bags to the supermarkets. Through the recent rule changes, all of the good work we were doing, collectively, as a nation, will have been for nothing; the good habits we got into, will be undone. We are at a pivotal moment in terms of plastic pollution. With the mounting piles of used single-use face masks, gloves and other protective equipment, we need to prevent Covid-19 actually becoming a pandemic of plastic pollution, and the government can help by eliminating unnecessary plastic bags.

  • Put a lid on your kid
As the government want to encourage more people to cycle, I would like to make cycle helmets compulsory for children, not fashionable I know that ...but 34 years ago my brother cycled up the little street we lived in and toppled off his bike, bumped his head, no speed no injuries to see, but his brain swelled lungs collapsed and a heart attack followed, 7 years old, he was buried 2 weeks later. Helmets didn't exist in normal life then, they do now please make it law

  • Girl Footballers to earn the same amount of money as boy footballers!
The players allege they have been subject to ongoing institutionalised gender discrimination, including unequal pay, despite having the same job responsibilities as the men's national players. The women's team have won the world cup, they have the superstars, they are the drivers of football in their country. The global gender wage gap overall sees women earning 63% of what men earn. Women’s bodies can do a lot more than we give them credit for. Most of what society thinks women’s bodies can do is based on fairly arbitrary speculation by men. Until 1972, women were not allowed to run marathons because they were thought to be too frail!

  • Windfall Tax on Large Companies to Support Small Business
Small businesses in retail, hospitality, leisure and entertainment sectors, are bearing the brunt of lock down measures. On the run into Christmas, they will be pushed to the edge. Elsewhere some very large companies will be raking it in, and sucking up the expendable money in the economy. At the same time some opportunist businesses are making large profits from tax payer funded public services. Government has introduced some measures to help businesses, their employees and the self-employed, but without further spending it is unlikely to be enough to save many small and medium sized businesses and the employees that depend on them. When the money borrowed by Government needs to be repaid, a business as usual approach to taxation will see an increased burden on all of us, whether that be through increased taxation, or poorer public services. It only seems fair that the largest companies, who will make the biggest profits during the Pandemic, should bear a greater proportion of that burden of taxation.

  • Lymm supports the Climate and Ecological Emergency Bill
This is a Private Members’ Bill, and taking it through parliament will be a hard-fought process but it has been done before with major climate legislation. This is an alliance bill that has been written by scientists, lawyers and activists; it is gathering support from a broad range of campaign groups, businesses, charities and individuals, and Lymm Parish Council believes it is an important piece of legislation. The bill has the potential to become the most significant move forward since the Climate Change Act 2008. Passing the CEE bill ensures that: Our entire carbon footprint is taken into account (including all of the emissions linked to the production and transport of goods from overseas that we consume in the UK We don’t depend on technology (NETs) to save the day as an excuse for inaction We focus on nature as much as climate, protecting and conserving habitats in the UK and internationally on supply chains Citizens are central to deciding how to move forward, in a Citizens’ Assembly with real teeth “This Bill outlines the path needed to avoid the catastrophe outlined by the United Nations... it is farsighted aiming to protect those at risk now and in the future.” https://www.ceebill.uk/

  • Support for businesses forced to close or operate under restrictions due to the COVID-19
The government is heavily focused on job retention and the furlough scheme, of which there is no doubt is beneficial to employees and is keeping the unemployment figures down. However, without adequate and realistic financial support many businesses will not survive the pressures which the COVID-19 restrictions are placing upon them. Many of these employees will find there are no jobs for them to return to without the government offering realistic support to the businesses employing them. The grants being offered at present will not even cover the rents or mortgages on many of the premises occupied by these businesses. Being the owner of a small rural public house (rateable value under £51,000) I can tell you that £500 a week is not covering my £800 a week rent let alone the insurance, electric and rental contracts, etc (which have no interest in pandemics) all which require paying. I am now extremely worried for the future of a business which I have worked hard to build up. It has been in the family for almost 30 years. We are self-employed operators who are not eligible for very much by way of self-employment support as we don't make much from the business by way of profits. So the pressure is now building as we are unsure how long we can continue. This not only puts the livelihoods of myself, partner and children at risk but the 10 local people who we employ. I beg this to be looked at as a matter of urgency as we are only a very small representation of the country and there are countless others in our situation.
