• Force Exam Boards to give FULL refunds to UK schools this year (2021)
This year UK examination boards have charged schools IN FULL (which is thousands of pounds per school). For what? Under normal circumstances schools pay the boards to a) generate examination material such as exam papers and b) pay examiners to mark and moderate said examination papers. This year, exams have been replaced with "assessments" - exams in all but name and additionally what is essentially old style coursework. These are being marked in their entirety by school staff, FOR FREE and at exceptionally late notice, thereby saving private examination boards huge amounts of money in examiners' fees. The exam boards have not even generated new exam material - merely regurgitated past exam papers. At a time when the vast majority of schools are struggling under the continued underfunding of the education system and staff are at breaking point from the demands of Covid-induced special procedures, we the undersigned feel that tax-payers money would be better spent ON SCHOOLS as opposed to lining the pockets of the boards who are charging for services either not provided at all or rendered lazily. We demand that government intervene to force exam boards to refund schools IN FULL - and not the paltry partial refunds offered thus far.

  • Travel covid tests
The public and travel industry have suffered enough for the past year plus. Instead of hitting us with even more hardships and expenses if travelling abroad becomes a reality. These are private companies selling the tests and will no doubt reap the benefits of this demand on us. We are told the tests are to protect us all so why do we have to pay and make private companies wealthy, they should be free. We need to let the Government know we are against this unfair cost.

  • Ban Fire & Rehire in Doncaster
Fire & Rehire is a tool to slash terms and conditions of contracted workers and has been used for decades. But there seems to be a growing trend and this is worrying. No company who have reaped misery and poverty on its employees are deserving of any remuneration from the public purse.

  • Help The Bees and Environment By Making All Bus Shelters Wildflower Gardens
Dear reader, My name is Yazmin, and this is my Brighton Bee Bus Stop petition. At present the globe is facing economic disaster. We have reached a point of crisis, Since the 1970s it has been shown that 41% of all UK species have declined. The fact of the matter is heartbreaking, so I have set about to see what local councils and individuals can do to make a difference. Loss of habitat is one of the major causes that is driving wildlife decline, as individuals, we can do our best to support the reintegration of wildlife in our cities by planting wildflowers, recycling, eating largely plant based diets and supporting local farmers rather than industrial food production industry. On a community level, local councils can also help to encourage more biodiversity by incorporating wildlife habitats in amongst our own societal structures, such as public bus stops, train stations and public communal areas of the city. As a constantly expanding species, it is important for us to consider the homes of the creatures that once vastly inhabited the landscape we now call our city. It is fundamental to incorporate habitation for crucial wildlife to maintain biodiversity and natural balance. The overall impact of decline in wildlife has a detrimental effect on all areas of flora, fauna, and human wellbeing! Taking one small step within our city to encourage wildlife and biodiversity will positively contribute to the welfare of our eco system and citizens overall. Through some basic research I have learned that Utrecht Council in Holland have successfully transformed 316 public transport stops into 'Bee Bus stops' since 2019. These bee stops not only support the city’s biodiversity by attracting honey bees, bumblebees, and other bee species, but they also capture fine dust, store rainwater and provide cooling in the summertime. Adding urban plants also has other benefits including, Increasing biodiversity, noise pollution, reducing stress, beautifying the city, absorbing carbon and improving air quality. In April 2020 in the UK, Cardiff Council followed suit, introducing over 10 bee bus stops under the same scheme as Utrecht. Brighton and Hove are known for their eclectic values and friendly ethos. In the face of the climate crisis Brighton has a great opportunity to set an example for other UK councils by introducing the Bee Bus Stop project within our communities and take a step towards an even greener city. Matching our ultra low emission busses with carbon filtering bus stops! I implore readers to sign this petition. Support the endorsement of action that so desperately needs to be taken. Brighton and Hove have over 150 bus stop - plastic eyesores peppering our streets; just imagine how beautiful our cities would be, outfitting our urban jungle with natural eco reform. No one can do everything, but everyone can do something - Greta Thunberg. My name is Yazmin, and this is our city. I have pledged my life to help support and sustain a better world for my children to grow up in, to make sure that their children have a world to grow up in. The future is in our hands we must act now. Please support OUR cause.

  • Restrict leaf blowers & pesticides to avert "insect armageddon"
Leaf blowers are contributing to the "insect armageddon" which currently threatens all life on earth. They are fatal to insects and should not be used unless absolutely "indispensable", the German government recently told its citizens. In 2019 the German government announced a roughly €100m (£85m) action plan to protect insects, which also included shoring up environmental regulation and limiting the use of pesticides. The controversial weed killer glyphosate will be banned by 2023. Yet, here in the UK, both leaf blowers and pesticides are regularly used, privately and by councils, from schools to parks, gardens to streets, to keep green spaces 'tidy', even when everything in their path is scorched and obliterated. Small animals, insect species, plants, topsoil… nothing is left undestroyed. Noisy leaf blowers are heavily polluting and pose the“risk that [insects and] small animals are absorbed or blown and thereby damaged”, the German Ministry for the Environment has said. The move followed a report from a top UK ecologist which warned bugs are dying out 8 times faster than larger animals, with 40 per cent of the roughly one million known insect species facing extinction as a result. “If insect declines are not halted, terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems will collapse, with profound consequences for human wellbeing,” Professor Dave Goulson’s report for the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust concluded. “The main causes of decline include habitat loss and fragmentation, and the overuse of pesticides. Wild insects are routinely exposed to complex cocktails of toxins which can cause either death or disorientation and weakened immune and digestive systems.” Leaf blowers are another huge part of the problem. “Leaf blowers are not only deafeningly loud and pollute the air through their internal combustion engines, they also harm the soil biology seriously.” Despite scores of cities across the US having previously instituted restrictions or bans on leaf-blowers, here in the UK they remain an almost daily fact of life. The dangers posed by leaf blowers hint at a larger trend that is harming insect populations, according to Dr Edward Turner, a lecturer at the University of Cambridge’s zoology department and curator of insects at the university’s zoology museum. “I think that leaf blowers fall into the category of being ‘too tidy’ and this can be very bad for insects,” according to Dr Turner. “Generally, if we were to cut our road verges and open grass areas less frequently, let some weeds grow along our pavements, and leave leaves to decompose more, I think it would benefit insects a lot.“Really importantly ... We should limit our use of herbicides and insecticides to an absolute minimum, especially in our urban green spaces and gardens. Basically, I think we just need to be a little less tidy and a little more tolerant of ‘weeds’ and I think insects and therefore lots of other species would benefit.” A leaf blower’s engine is environmentally awful. Designed to be air-cooled, (their original design was for crop spraying) 100% of their exhaust emissions spew directly into the area around them. They are also gas guzzlers. One hour of leaf blowing puts as many pollutants in the atmosphere as a sedan driven sedately for about 180 kilometres. One cheap leaf blower’s pollution is greater than an average-size long-distance lorries. Yet they are the main method used to keep children’s playgrounds free of leaves… They excrete high frequency sound waves with decibel levels that far exceed acceptable limits. Hearing damage begins to occur when someone is around “extended exposure” to any sound of 85 decibels or higher. Just two hours of operating a leaf blower, which hits 90 decibels, can cause permanent damage and hearing loss. The greater the exposure, the deafer the person operating the leaf blower will become. Given the decibel damage, even if the leaf blower is being used at the house next door, you will be subject to some ear damage. Please help me to get both leaf blowers and pesticides restricted unless “indispensable”. We are at the point of collapse for many insect populations - most well-known is the rate at which bees are dying – and can’t afford to keep inadvertently destroying our green spaces in the name of maintenance. Insect collapse would mean human collapse. We are also deafening children and each other, while poisoning and polluting the natural spaces we most rely on for human health.

  • A Call to Help Local Arcades and Cinemas Bounce Back
The Goal. To help cinemas and arcades bounce back after being severely affected by the economic consequences of the pandemic. The Problem. Many businesses have shut down because of the restrictions imposed during the pandemic. And while at present, so businesses are gradually getting back on track, some businesses—like arcades and cinemas that depend on visiting customers—are still facing uncertainty. It’s heartbreaking to see these recreational areas that used to be so alive and vibrant now turn into dark and empty halls and gaming rooms. Those owning these businesses must have a tough time making ends meet, now that people are required to stay indoors. And for those families and friends that used to share so many memories in cinemas and arcade halls, there’s also the sadness that comes with the possibility that the good memories will never be replicated again. The Solution. Owners of arcades, cinemas, and other local gaming businesses need all the help they can get. For them to operate today, they have to receive safety training, financial assistance, and the support from the local community. We can all try to hire them in our private functions and get our meals from them if they offer deliveries or pick-ups. These businesses can also look into new equipment to make transactions safer, faster, more efficient, and more convenient for customers. Check out Embed today to learn more about the business solutions they offer like the movie theater POS system.
