• Save The Trees Armada Way Plymouth Devon
Plymouth City Council are about to hack down approx 130 trees that run along Armada Way, Plymouth, Devon. There is a huge outcry from the public, yet their cries of sheer horror at the thought of losing all the beautiful trees are falling on deaf ears. The council are going to destroy the habitat/home of many birds, animals and insects, not to mention the enjoyment of all who visit and live there. Please, please can this be investigated. Trees, birds, animals and the very air that we breathe is so important to our lives. The council. in my opinion is causing wilful damage and destruction to our beautiful city all in the name of progress. How on earth can this be deemed as progress?

  • FIFA, Come Clean on your "Carbon Neutral" Claims
From kick-abouts in the park, to Premier League derby days and the World Cup Final, football’s a game of courage, teamwork and fierce loyalty. And with its ability to capture the hearts and minds of billions of fans across every corner of the globe, football has an unrivalled opportunity to lead and inspire action to protect and improve the world we live in by harnessing the values that make it the beautiful game. When it comes to climate change, that opportunity is one we can’t afford to pass up. Record-breaking heat waves, flooding and poor air quality are already impacting the sport we love and depriving both young players and fans of a future in which football thrives. Without ambitious and immediate action, climate change’s grip on football’s future will tighten. Globally, we have seen sporting events and tournaments postponed due to extreme heat, players withdrawing because of the dangers of pollution and heat exhaustion, and the legacies of international sporting events vanishing as climate change creates conditions that make sport impossible to play. Climate change is the opponent we must tackle - and we’re already deep into extra time. Whatever shirt we wear or chant we sing, we’ve got everything to gain from taking action. That’s why at the World Cup - the biggest stage in world football - we want to see real leadership from our governing bodies, using football’s unrivalled platform to set the bar for future tournaments. But, instead of taking this golden chance, FIFA’s currently set itself up to miss its best shot at goal. In just a couple of weeks, the FIFA Men’s World Cup in Qatar will kick off. The tournament has been labelled as the first “fully carbon neutral FIFA World Cup tournament”, meaning its overall impact on the planet should be zero. But that’s not true. In reality, FIFA’s sustainability strategy for the Qatar World Cup rests on flawed carbon calculations, questionable offsetting practices, and shifting the responsibility onto fans rather than shouldering it themselves. As criticism mounts around shameful human rights violations in Qatar, carbon neutrality claims are being used as a distraction. Players, fans and the planet deserve better. Climate change is one of the defining issues of our time, with action taken this decade defining the future of the planet - and FIFA is well placed to lead by example. With its enormous global profile at the very top of international football, FIFA has an unmatched opportunity to provide leadership where we need it most. A report from Carbon Market Watch earlier this year casts serious doubt over FIFA’s claims of carbon-neutrality, and questions the quality, transparency and integrity of the offsetting practices put in place for the World Cup in Qatar. This petition is for football fans, players, clubs and organisations to call on FIFA to withdraw their claims around carbon neutrality and take a more robust and responsible approach to future World Cups, only using offsets as a last resort. #FIFAComeClean

  • The Prime Minister MUST attend COP27 UN Climate Summit
We have all seen the effects of increasing temperatures here in the UK. Our weather is more volatile, as evidenced by the increasing number of floods, droughts, storms and heatwaves we are suffering. This is replicated all over the world and people are dying from the inaction, when there is overwhelming evidence of the man-made nature of the threat. We can mitigate it and adapt to the consequences, but we must act now. We need our Prime Minister to lead the UK negotiating team at COP27 and ensure the UK meets the commitments it made in The Paris Agreement.

  • Pavements for pedestrians
Parents walking kids to junior school are often having to wheel a buggy with a younger child on board and keep control of school aged kids. The narrowed pavements slow the process down and in wet weather leads to everyone getting wet from contact with the overgrown bushes, largely privet.

  • Sewage Fiasco Kent Coast
Sewage in the Seawater does not belong to a modern society. Keep our oceans clean please. Southern Water has repeatedly released their sewage into the Kent Coast giving false reasons like torrential rain fall last August during a drought period. Where does all the money go from our high water bills ? Please reinvest in modern sewage plants and stop behaving like a third world country!

  • NO FRACKING IN THE UK- Anti-fracking campaign
Hydraulic fracturing is harmful to the climate ________________________________________________ If natural gas from fracking was not so long ago considered as a bridge from dirty coal to more climate friendly solutions. Indeed, fracking has been proved to be linked to important leaks of methane – a 23 times more potent greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide. FRACKING Contaminates soils, air and water We depend on clean soils in many ways. Feeding ourselves is but one. Clean air is even simpler to comprehend as we breathe the air around us. So if hydraulic fracturing pollutes both soils and air, how can we eat food grown on this land? It Is NOT part of the vital energy transition. Fracking is just polluting and inefficient means of heating our houses and moving our cars and trucks when better solutions are at our disposal. Far better solutions like low carbon energy sources such as renewables (solar, wind, geothermal…) and energy efficiency can be part of an energy transition that is safe for our civilization and our climate. An energy transition based on these two could bring thousands of local jobs and money without any risks. As a matter of facts, it has already started… Fracking consumes vast amounts of precious water ___________________________________________________________________________________ Water as more and more countries are getting drier, using energy sources that consumes vast amounts of water is just sheer madness. The UK is currently facing drought conditions and this is set to continue to get worse in years to come. Climate Progress reported that each fracking job requires several million gallons of water, of which only around a quarter is being recovered. Shale gas drilling has been linked in many occasions to FLAMMABLE drinking water. The Economist published an article on it. Injecting in our environment a cocktail of water, sand and no less than hundreds of chemicals that can cause cancers or are neurotoxins. Not the kind of stuff you want anywhere near you… 5. Causes earthquakes In Ohio Drilling holes in the soil and injecting massive amounts of chemicals and wastewater created earthquakes. A recent study from one of the world’s leading seismology labs quoted by Reuters show that ” powerful earthquakes thousands of miles (km) away can trigger swarms of minor quakes near wastewater-injection wells like those used in oil and gas recovery “ The US Geological Survey (USGS) linked up to 50 earthquakes to fracking in Oklahoma. Magnitudes were ranging from 1.0 to 4.0. Puts arsenic in groundwater tables Arsenic is a poison of choice if you want to dispose of an Emperor or a King. Most unfortunately to people near fracking wells, it also has been found in groundwater near fracking wells. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has found traces of it on multiple occasions as the Los Angeles Times and ProPublica both reported. Doesn’t benefit We, the People. Because of all the negative side effects, the People can lose a lot because of fracking. The ones who benefit from it really are only the companies conducting it. Rural communities can be revived thanks to wind power’s money. Please sign to keep Fracking off the table for good, and maintain the ban on use in the UK.

With ever growing urbanisation the problem of water companies discharging untreated effluent can only get worse. They must be made to invest in new technologies but it has to come at government level. We need to send a clear message to Ofwat.
