• Petition for Clean Green Buses and Clean Air
Air pollution from road traffic causes tens of thousands of people every year in the UK to die prematurely. Children's health is suffering too. Norwich has several air pollution hotspots. These include Castle Meadow, where diesel buses contribute to unsafe air quality. Signing the petition below would put pressure on Norfolk County Council to promote clean green buses. 5,000 signatures are needed to trigger a debate by a Full Norfolk County Council meeting. As the local transport authority, Norfolk County Council can influence the emissions standard of bus vehicles run by private bus companies; for example it can specify bus vehicle standards: - when letting Park and Ride contracts - in providing bus priority measures - by creating low emissions zones. Thank you for your support.

  • Re-Open A&E local services in the North East
Professor Sir Bruce Keogh, NHS Medical Director for England has opened a £75 million super hospital in Northumberland. It is his vision of the future for all hospitals in the U.K. Sir Bruce explained: “This is all about ensuring patients with complicated needs or life threatening conditions get to a centre with the appropriate expertise in place. The challenges facing A&E services across the country are immense and OUR VISION FOR THE FUTURE is very much in line with what Northumbria Healthcare have already been developing with the opening of the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital to look after THOSE WITH SERIOUS, LIFE THREATENING EMERGENCIES." (Please see photo / http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/nhs-whistleblower-fears-patients-die-6875670 .) “It is testament to the clinical teams at Northumbria, who began thinking about their NEW MODEL OF EMERGENCY CARE many years ago, that the North East is now well ahead of other parts of the NHS in making THE NATIONAL VISION for urgent and emergency care a reality for patients." (See photo.) “I very much look forward to returning to the North East to see first-hand progress with the hospital which will be at the forefront of emergency medicine.” My name is Martin Jackson and I work for a North East Ambulance service and I would like to invite Bruce back to the North East to see first-hand the progress. At least 3 local A & E units, from North Tyneside to Hexham have now changed into 24/7 'Urgent care centres'. This super hub which you have created may work for parcels or pizza delivery but we are talking here about peoples’ lives. This is one result of your vision for the future of all hospitals... 120 mile emergency round trip passing Berwick, Alnwick, Ashington and Cramlington Hospitals. This is a fact which can be verified by the Ambulance service. The Ambulance service uses a TerraFix system. It is a sat. nav. which logs the location and time of every ambulance in the North East. We had just cleared at your new super-hospital in Cramlington and got a shout to a sick baby. Driving in fog up the A1 on blues and twos 60 miles north to Berwick hospital. The infant was in a hospital with a mild case of croup. The Berwick hospital could not cope and wanted the child to be seen at Cramlington. We blue lighted the infant to Cramlington and fortunately arrived before 11 o'clock because paediatric A & E closes at 11. If the call had been life threatening we would have had to continue an extra 20 minutes to Newcastle. This must raise several serious questions. My main question is to Jeremy Hunt and Sir Bruce Keogh: If this was your child with meningitis, would you be happy with this service? A 2 hour stretcher wait before even being booked in? This is happening NOW. This is a fact which can be verified by the ambulance service TerraFix system. Thinking about the "Golden Hour", so crucial to stroke patients. This is your NHS. Is this what you want? This is not the desolate North East. Please take a second to stand up and be counted. Please click this petition and feel good for the rest of the day. Thank you! martin The views expressed in this petition do not necessarily reflect the views of the North East Ambulance service.

  • Preventing food wastage
As can be seen in this new report by Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall, The amount of fresh vegetables wasted because they do not meet the cosmetic standards of these supermarkets is monumental. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-34647454?SThisFB Other reports show that conditions such as scurvy, malnutrition and rickets are on the increase. To dispose of food produce that is perfectly edible but is deemed not saleable simply because they do not conform to the right size and dimensions while people go hungry through not being able to afford or access such produce is criminal. I have previously petitioned you to stop disposing of foodstuffs that are still edible but out of date and some responded stating they had a policy to send food to charities that asked for it. I am now asking you to create a policy that provides an avenue for these fruit and vegetables to be made accessible. I am not asking you to give them away. Wastage of this produce is causing financial harm to the farmers that grow it. I find such an attitude that creates this waste abhorrent when so many are going hungry.

  • Calling on GSK & Astrazeneca to provide lifesaving medicine for refugees in Europe
Since the refugee crisis in Europe began the people of the UK have united in a sterling effort to provide aid in the form of clothing, shelter, food and heat. These donations come from their own pockets, bank accounts and a deep sense of personal duty. There are somethings however that the everyday person cannot provide in sufficient amounts and this includes basic medicine. GSK and Astrazeneca are respectively the world's sixth and seventh largest pharmaceutical companies measured by 2014 market share: Last year Astrazeneca announced profits of $26.6 BILLION, an profit increase of 32% on 2013 and the GSK annual report 2014 announced profits of £23.0 BILLION, placing them in the top 2% of pharmaceutical companies world wide according to the Dow Jones Sustainability Index. These types of profits mean that GSK and Astrazeneca are in a privileged position to give something back to the very people who have funded their operations for so long. This is our message: To Sir Witty and Mr Soriot, I ask you - how much is a life worth to GSK & Astrazeneca? Will you help ensure the survival of refugees of war? Will you stand with the people who have purchased your products and funded your empires or will you put profit before people? We know you can help - you have the resources and the means to ensure that basic medical care, such as antibiotics, pain relief, basic first-aid, cold and flu treatments can be delivered where they are needed most. If the people of the UK, where the average salary is £26,500 (down £164 since 2012) can sacrifice their time, goods, money and expertise to do the right thing, then is it really too much to ask for a multi-billion pound corporation, who profit from sickness and death, to dedicate just a tiny portion of its profits towards providing basic lifesaving necessities to those who have escaped oppression, torture , murder and rape only to succumb to colds, flu and hypothermia? According to my calculations (in my life, I deal in hundreds not billions so please correct me if I am wrong!) but just 0.12% of £26 BILLION is approximately £32.5 MILLION, a figure that would go a long way to providing basic health care - even more so if they would provide the equivalent in the required medical goods to be administered by the small army of healthcare providers and medical volunteers in camps across Europe. These are unthinkable figures for the average person;, and there are many who oppose big pharma for just this reason. However, this tragic situation provides both GSK and Astrazeneca with an opportunity to show their humanity and demonstrate the same values and common decency as those who are providing aid, fundraising and standing in the muddy rain drenched camps wondering how long the medicine will last now the winter is coming. If you truly value life as your corporate mandate should dictate we urge you to prove it. Help us to help them. We have trusted you with our lives, now we, are entrusting you with theirs. Please don't let us down. • re-assign funding to child and adolescent mental health
The pressures faced by children and teenagers now are more harsh than ever. The pressure to succeed in a failing school system, the pressure to get the best GCSE and ALEVELS, family pressures, and children who have an intrinsic mental health concern, all these pressures have increased, and the support services that would enable a child to access support have not only stayed static, but in many cases have reduced in size. Last year 800 children aged 11 and under needed treatment in a and e for injuries caused by self harm, each week there is news of another teen suicide, or an autistic child that cannot receive access to a vital service, this needs to change, and fast, before a whole generation is lost. This vital service can no longer be a Cinderella service.

  • BAN E-CIGARETTES IN PUBLIC PLACES IN ENGLAND
This is important because people should not have to inhale the smoke or vapour from these as they still contain nicotine and sometimes horrible smells, (alternative tobacco products, such as e-cigarettes, smokeless tobacco, and waterpipes may cause serious potential health problems, including cancer, because of the chemicals and toxins they contain, ( info from www.cancer.net)) As public spaces increasingly become smokefree, anecdotal reports show some people are using e-cigarettes indoors and in smokefree public spaces, including bars, restaurants and on public transportation. While e-cigarettes do not produce smoke, they do expose others to secondhand emissions. Little is known about these emissions or the potential harm they may cause. Two initial studies have found formaldehyde, benzene and tobacco-specific nitrosamines (all carcinogens) coming from those secondhand emissions. Other studies have shown that chemicals exhaled by users also contain formaldehyde, acetaldehyde and other potential toxins. There is no evidence that shows e-cigarettes emissions (secondhand aerosol) are safe for non-users to inhale, and now there might be some containing cannibis which everyone in the place where they are smoked will be subject to it no matter how little it contains. They are already being banned in Wales and in some USA States, and other places. I have already had cancer and do not want myself or others who have suffered this horrible disease to have to endure the stress these can cause when they are having a meal out in a restaurant, as has happened to me each week, or in the cinema, theatres, etc, also they could make young teens and children become addicted to them as I do not think there is an age limit on them.

  • Sugar tax
David Cameron has refused to bring in a tax in the UK in fact he has refused to listen to the independent research which proposed a sugar tax. Childhood obesity has become a major problem and will get worse in the future if we do not take steps to to reduce the sugar intake of children. Our government is in the pockets of the food manufacturers -only the EU can implement the tax over his head. Our children's health matters please lobby your MEP to raise this issue in the European Union.

  • STOP THE INCINERATOR BOTTOM ASH PLANT
If we do not prevent this contamination even the rich will become impoverished! No Barry Ash Dump - Stop the Incinerator Ash 'Facility' in Barry Town! We’re challenging Council approval of a plan to bring Cardiff’s incinerator ash to Barry -75000 tonnes per year on unused dockland close to homes and businesses. They would not simply dump the ash but extract metals, then aerate the ash in open-air heaps and grade the matured ash into building aggregate. Not only are these operations very dusty, but the dust is toxic, with lead, cadmium etc. The strong winds across the open site will carry scarcely visible toxic dust particles to many residential areas around the Dock and into the town center. Other incinerator ash sites are in rural locations, far from housing. Our community is the first to have it imposed on us. The regulators are concerned about harm to bio-conservation, but not about humans! Our lawyers are up to challenging this precedent that would dismiss the special health hazards and toxic nature of incinerator dust. The Vale of Glamorgan Council had to check risks to health, but failed to do so. They had asked Public Health Wales for their view on incomplete materials. A non-reply was used as excuse for ignoring risks to health of inhaling and ingesting the incinerator. Infants are especially vulnerable, being more sensitive to toxic metals and ingesting via. finger-licking. This crassly ignorant, almost criminal decision by the planning committee on 3rd Sept. 2015 can only be quashed by Court Order. Leading environmental lawyers Richard Buxton have lodged a case on our behalf. As well as part funding under Legal Aid, the community has to raise funds several £1000s towards it. Please contribute through:- http://www.gofundme.com/a97hmjnu Please help save our community and town from this insidious threat !

  • Stop the closure of BHA Leeds Skyline
The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender (LGBT) and Black & Minority Ethnic (BME) communities who are also HIV+ are highly vulnerable communities suffering from multiple forms of stigma and oppression. Skyline offers a safe environment where these essentially invisible individuals can be supported holistically through a whole range of physio-psycho-social issues. Without this service they will be further isolated having to negotiate the trauma that is an HIV diagnosis, alone.
