  • URGENT ACTION: Save Poole Hospital NHS staff from deportation
Paul Ermitano, a highly respected cardiac physiologist and his wife Jamila, an experienced nurse, are Filipino citizens who gave up their careers overseas and came to Poole over 3 years ago to tackle staff shortages in our NHS. The Home Office are refusing to grant the family an extension on their visa stopping Paul carrying out the vital, life-saving heart scans that he is trained to do. They’ve been ordered to leave the country immediately. This decision has come about because they briefly accepted child benefit for their son. They've paid it back in full. The family have no means to support themselves financially and Jamila is due to give birth to their second child in 3 months time. Our new Health Secretary the Rt Hon Matt Hancock MP has put NHS workforce and efficiency at the top of his agenda. Therefore it defies common sense and decency that resources are being spent on ejecting these lovely and useful people. Home Secretary Sajid Javid should extend the stay of this family so they can safeguard the delivery of their unborn baby and continue their vital work for our NHS.

  • Stoke-on-Trent City Council, stop persecuting the homeless
Stoke-on-Trent has the dubious distinction of being called the Monkey Dust capital of the U.K. A blite on the reputation and economy of Stoke-on-Trent. We the undersigned, are disgusted and ashamed that Stoke-on-Trent City Council and Staffordshire Police, rather than tackling the supply and use of drugs and other street crimes, are focusing on the homeless and fining them £100. This proposal is not only sadistic but increases the pressure on the police, courts, probation services as well as council resources, during a time of peak demand and will do nothing to reduce genuine homelesses. We demand that as the Councillor responsible for Communities, you take immediate action to stop the persecution of the most vulnerable people in our city and drop plans to fine the genuinely homeless. This is the second year in a row that Stoke-on-Trent City Council has attempted to victimise the homeless and profit from their misfortune In a move so disgusting that Scrooge himself would be ashamed by it. Homelessness will not end by hiding the problem nor profiting from their misery but by acting with compassion, decency and vision. To be clear, we have no objection to the prosecution of criminals, who feign homelessness to take advantage of the public or aggressively beg for money, however, we seek an acceptance and protection for the genuine homeless.

  • Protect our children from dirty air in Greater Manchester
I have a lung condition as do other members of my family and for this reason air quality is one that it close to my heart. I am most worried about the effects of the dirty air caused by traffic on my son and granddaughter who have severe asthma. Air pollution is a public health crisis, with illegal and harmful levels of air pollution across Greater Manchester. We need national and local government to act to clean up our air and make our towns and cities a healthier place to live for everyone but especially for babies and children. Air pollution affects us all, from when we are in the womb through to old age. It is linked to premature births and can stunt lung growth in children. Air pollution can trigger heart attacks and strokes, worsens asthma attacks and causes lung cancer. Babies, children and older people are more vulnerable to the impacts of air pollution. We need the all the Councils, across Manchester, with the support of national government, to take urgent action to clean up our air to protect the health of children and babies. Please support me and sign this petition!

  • Youth Representation in Peterborough City Council
This issue is vital to the betterment of youths services in Peterborough. Currently, the people that are in charge of youth services have not been classed as youth in years and are in no place to have a say in the issues of the youth no matter how good they are at their job. However, if a youth council did exist, or there was a youth presence in the council (11-16 year olds) there would be better input for the decision makers. This could lead to less crime and violence as the youth would be occupied elsewhere and may lead to better results for the youth of Peterborough in academic and social terms.

  • Zero Rate VAT veterinary bills for registered Animal Charities
The cost of vet bills are already high and a further 20% VAT charge is restricting the good work animal charities are doing. All good Animal charities insist that any animals that come into their care are neutered or spayed to keep the numbers down the VAT reduction Could be spent on more animals as most are Non for profit. Long term and short term treatments are also expensive and I believe the savings would help the charities with their day to day existence. Animals should have equal rights to the best welfare, Welfare of which for humans is zero rated

  • Save the William IV pub
The pub was sold to developers by Young’s Brewery, even though an offer to purchase to run this as a community pub was made not far off the full market value. This was declined by them. Meanwhile locals were informed that the pub was being sold as a going concern only to find it boarded up overnight and sold to developers. The William IV is the only non-gastro, hotel or family orientated pub left in the village. It had planning rejected on it in the past as the council deemed it important to the community. It has a very special atmosphere and there are very few places in the country left like this pub. The William IV is the beating heart of our community, where community and charitable events are organised, old and young mix and discussions are held on village life. Once the pub is developed it will be will be gone forever. Since its closure, people are travelling outside the village to socialise and have been split apart. Please list this pub as an Asset of Community Value, so we have the chance to rescue the heart of our village.

  • Free the "Fracking Three"
Lancashire voted against allowing fracking in their county, and the government undemocratically over-ruled this. Fracking is well known to have a seriously destructive impact upon the environment. The freedom to make a peaceful protest is something to be proud of in this country, and with these sentences, the judiciary have violated that right. Only by over-ruling the sentence can this basic human right be restored.

  • Wolvercote Speeding Petition
We the signatories to this petition are increasingly concerned about the volume and speed of road traffic through Wolvercote. In particular, it is increasing the risk of a serious accident involving residents, pedestrians and schoolchildren walking or cycling to school. The frustration of some drivers to exceed the 20mph speed limit is further linked to trying to catch or beat the Godstow road traffic lights or avoid the traffic jams on the A34.

  • Stop the war on cash: Intervene to stop cash machines closing at a record rate
The news that cash machines are closing at a record rate is alarming. Over two million Britons rely on cash for their day-to-day shopping, including many of society’s most vulnerable, such as older people and those on low incomes. And cash is essential for many small businesses. Removing dozens of isolated machines will leave many communities entirely without access to their money. The banks claim this is just a reflection of changed consumer behaviour - with lots of people not using cash anymore. But a majority of people choose to use cash regularly, and the public’s demand for cash is greater than ever before - 77 percent of people consider access to a free-to-use cash machine as essential to their lives. This is about banks putting the cash machine network under pressure to cut costs, combined with card companies’ efforts to make cash machines unprofitable. The regulator needs to step in to make sure our voices as consumers are being represented.

  • Help Fair Trade
Some Fair trade organisations are struggling to balance their books. I do not want to lose Fair trade organisations. They provide help in overseas countries in a way which matters. These organisations give assistance to producers so that they may work and provide for their families and community. This means that they can work their way out of poverty, and with dignity and pride. I am a fair trader in a church in S E London. The goods we sell are of a nice quality, and we are helping in a small way. I, for one, want to see the UK Fairtrade organisations continue with their vital work - bringing help to where it really matters. Help to the producers themselves. We need to bring this to the attention of the UK Government. The aim of the petition is for the Government to help Fairtrade providers to continue. Yes this will include financial help by grant or loan initially. More importantly, the government needs to work with Fairtrade organisations to craft long term trading deals and good practice. The organisations' wealth of experience and trading partnerships should be a model for the government to use in overseas aid.

  • Install Pedestrian Crossings on Worthy Road, Winchester
Worthy Road is the only major road coming into Winchester with no pedestrian crossing. 2000 children are killed or seriously injured on UK roads each year. It's time for Hampshire County Council to do something. The Hampshire Local Transport Plan highlights the need for investment in walking, but without a pedestrian crossing residents are much less likely to walk into the town centre. Many residents in Abbotts Barton are elderly and find crossing such a busy road daunting and dangerous , this leads to feelings of isolation within our community for some of our most vulnerable residents. Young families in this area also struggle with crossing this dangerous road. At school time many families are left waiting for long periods to cross which is a safety concern when the traffic is so fast. There are also many disabled people in Abbott's Barton who are unable to get into town independently because of the lack of a safe crossing place and that is simply wrong. A pedestrian crossing would encourage residents to be more active, and enable much greater independence. Residents have been campaigning about this issue for more than five years. Why do we need to wait for an accident to happen for something to be done? A crossing is needed, it's time to act.
