Scotland needs proper rent controlsRenters in Scotland are suffering. Across the country, sky-high rents are forcing people into poverty and far too many tenants are living in slum-like conditions. We used to have rent controls to protect people from exactly this situation - until Thatcher scrapped them in the 80s - and now it’s time to bring them back. In 2016, the Scottish Government brought in so-called “Rent Pressure Zones” to try to tackle high rents, but these have failed. No council has been able to use them, and the evidence suggests it wouldn’t help even if they did. Now we need to bring in proper, nationwide rent controls. You can read more about the campaign and what rent controls would mean here: https://www.heraldscotland.com/news/17447397.campaigners-call-for-scotland-wide-rent-controls-to-help-tenants/19,549 of 20,000 SignaturesCreated by Emma Saunders

STOP Wellingborough Driving Test Centre from ClosingSTOP - THE LOCAL COMMUNITY CUTBACKS. Used by 1000’s of Local people and more that 40 local Driving Instructors. DVSA choosing to save money (ASSUMED as no reason has been given) rather than support local community. Approx 1500 tests per year. Runs from a charity organisation. The DVSA income is very important to Glamis Hall. STOP - THE INCREASED LEAD TIMES FOR TEST DATES. Closing Wellingborough Test Centre will increase the lead times at other test centres, especially Northampton. STOP - THE INCREASE IN CONGESTION AND EMISSIONS IN AND AROUND NORTHAMPTON AND KETTERING. Extra 1500 test each year. More cars going up and down our roads too and from. More cars running around the other towns. STOP - THE INCREASED COSTS TO LEARNER DRIVERS AND PARENTS(up to 2x). Lesson times around wellingborough can be 1 hr long. Lesson times will have to be at least 1.5 hrs due to increased distance. STOP - THE INCREASED HASSLE FACTOR FOR LOCAL PEOPLE AND DRIVING INSTRUCTORS. Wellingborough Instructors have a great working relationship with the wellingborough DVSA examiners - they are a good bunch. Driving tests from Glamis Hall simply work for all parties. This directly affects more than 40 local Driving Instructors who live and work in and around Wellingborough. THIS MAKES NO SENSE GIVEN WELLINGBOROUGH’S CURRENT AND FUTURE GROWTH IN HOUSING Wellingborough is growing massively with Stanton Cross(3500 new homes) and Glenvale Park off niort way(3000 new Homes) The Wellingborough Test Centre is heavily oversubscribed - The DVSA were talking of increasing capacity.- now no capacity.989 of 1,000 SignaturesCreated by Chris Howard

MPs leaving Political Parties should call for by-elections in their constituenciesMany UK constituents voted for their MPs because they represented the political party that they support. MPs who have left their party should respect their constituents by offering to stand in a by-election. This will prove that they are still driven entirely by the desire to fairly represent the wishes of the majority in their constituency, and not by their own agendas5,294 of 6,000 SignaturesCreated by Jemima True

Save Princess Alexandra Hospital DomesticsWe as a team have worked in house for the hospital some for over 25yrs. We work hard to meet the standards of cleanliness that is required. Not only that we have a repour with the staff throughout the hospital. Doctors, Nursing and HCA trust us and our ability to do our jobs to the highest of standards. It's our lively hood and we think it's only fair that we have the right to fight for our jobs to stay in house.3,229 of 4,000 SignaturesCreated by Lyndsey Johnstone

Install a temporary pedestrian crossing on the Weymouth Way at SouthillIf nothing is done then someone is going to get hurt! The pedestrian crossing on the Weymouth Way at Southill was installed for a very good reason, that being the road is too dangerous to cross without it. Prior to the crossing being installed you quite literally took your life in your hands as you made a quick dash across the roundabout approach roads. Those with mobility issues or young children were faced with an even greater risk. Weeks ago a minor gas leak was detected close to the crossing and the crossing has been barricaded to prevent it being used. We have since been told it's a complicated leak and may take some time to repair, but we don't know if that's to be measured in weeks, months or even years. So we are back to making a dash for it across the roundabout as before, a situation that was considered too dangerous and the reason the crossing was installed. If the situation was having a negative impact on drivers I am sure some form of temporary lights would have been installed, but as it only affects pedestrians then nothing happens. Signs have been erected asking drivers to take care as pedestrians may be crossing the road, but I can confirm that most drivers are ignoring the signs. I was nearly hit by a speeding car as, rather than slowing slightly to give me more time to finish crossing, the driver thought it best to accelerate and blare the horn. So the question is why can't temporary crossing lights be installed until such times as the gas main is repaired?733 of 800 SignaturesCreated by Pete Barrow

Stop the housing association sell-offsThis month, 56 desperately needed social rented homes are due to be sold-off at auction by housing associations, so called 'social landlords'. 15 being sold by Housing association, Peabody, including 17 Robinson Road, a refurbished 2-bedroom home in Bethnal Green, with a reserve price of £730,000. Please don't take me away from my HomeMy family and I are running out of time and we don't know where to ask for help. My case has been on going for three years now and I am scared of their unchanging views because it means for me to be separated from my family again. My dad has been working here in the UK for almost fourteen years where ten years he was apart from us. My mom, sister, brother and I came here in 2015 to be together with my dad. Then, we had to renew our visas last 2016. We did our biometrics together but for some reason mine was a late submission and that's where it all started to crumble. We were put in a situation where we don't have anything to show for and we have been in two firms, one of which is still representing me but I am starting to lose faith. Multiple Administrative and Judicial reviews have been sought out but their decision was maintained. This battle has drained us financially and emotionally and we are running out of options. I hope we had better knowledge of what we should have done and trusted the right people, maybe it wouldn't have come to this. We are seeking any kind of help. I don't want to leave United Kingdom as it is my dream to be here ever since I was a child. This is where we belong. If I were to be given another chance, I will work harder and earn the right to prove myself. My home is where my family are and I don't want to be taken away from my home.176 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Philline Dennieze Julle McLyon

Elderly Couple Forced to Demolish their own Home by Cheshire East CouncilTo ensure this senseless action can never happen again to vulnerable people, adding to the current national problem of homelessness in the UK. Were Cheshire East Council really acting in the public interest, spending so much taxpayers’ money relentlessly pursuing an elderly couple to whom they granted a Certificate of Lawfulness to build and then issued it with Completion Certificate as a warehouse? We estimate this must be well into six figures, as Ken and Barbara have, although our disclosure request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 was blocked!? But here’s the biggest question of all… Was it really worth it when the Certificate of Lawfulness runs with the land, so once demolished, construction can start immediately to lawfully rebuild the warehouse to exactly the same size/footprint/dimensions, as confirmed by Cheshire East’s Principal Planning Officer.1,166 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Sarah Taylor

“THE HEART OF YOUR CITY IS UNDER THREAT…..HAVE YOUR SAY”We are concerned that the current Old Steine road plans may increase congestion resulting in greater pollution and deterioration of air quality. We are concerned journey times and travel distances will increase and cause vehicle displacement. We are concerned of the potential negative impact to our tourist economy, businesses generally and our outdoor live events. We all agree that investment in the Old Steine area will positively impact the city. By working with all interested parties, we believe that better solutions are achievable, enhancing accessibility for the less able and further improving provision for cycling and walking and greater use of public transport.1,383 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by James Noble

Please keep Castle site in Council ownershipThe County Council has taken steps with the apparent aim of denying public access to Shire Hall grounds, including The Mound and grassed area used for sport, play and pastimes. For centuries, Cambridge and Cambridgeshire residents have walked, played and climbed to the top of The Mound to see the views of Cambridge. The County Council has lodged documents by way of ‘landlord’s deposit’ under the Highways Act and Commons Act which appear to deny the public access to the grounds of Shire Hall - the entire site including The Mound and grassed forecourt. This is a part of Cambridge and Cambridgeshire history and heritage. Will we stand by, allowing barring of our public asset and denial of the public’s rights? Cambridgeshire County Council confirmed that this e-petition would be acceptable to them. This petition was taken to Cambridgeshire County Council on 14 May 2019. They subsequently announced that they would lease the entire site on a 40 year lease to Brookgate. This is not a satisfactory outcome. The site should be council-owned and council-run for the good of the public. Leasing to private developers ends or jeopardises every aspect of public usage of this site. This has caused the need for a new petition. https://you.38degrees.org.uk/p/ShireHall To continue support for this campaign, please sign, share and comment on the new petition.3,454 of 4,000 SignaturesCreated by Isabel Lambourne

Ban highly toxic lead fishing weightsThough the angling industry is directed by the likes of the World Health Organisation to remove lead from angling as it is a poison the industry fails to do so. Lead angling weights are known to cause humans, especially infants, a plethora of serious ill effects including: cancers, birth defects and brain diseases. Lead fishing weights are also proven to be hugely negative within the environment causing the death and harm to a multitude of life forms, from invertebrate life through to bird life. Only recently the European Chemical Agency have released a comprehensive report again highlighting the huge amount of ill effects to both humans and the environment. Unfortunately the angling trade 'protects' this product due to the huge profits made even though the facts about the harm caused by its manufacture and use are evident, and substantially proven. Just think, lead has been removed from the majority of walks of life because of its toxicity but not in angling - basically because there is no oversight and the industry is unregulated. Anglers now lose 1000's of tons into the environment each year through the insane practice of 'dumping' their leads when playing a fish resulting in further damage to the planet - one noted scientist, Vernon Thomas, stated this was now at a level where it should be classed as an environmental time bomb waiting to explode. You can no longer go in to a toy shop and buy lead soldiers due to their toxicity but you can go into any tackle shop and purchase lead angling weights. Lead has been removed from everything, from paint through to petrol but not from angling and all because of flawed profiteering. This is an out of sight issue to the general public that is very real and is harming the environment of a massive but unreported scale. In our day and age protection of the environment is paramount but this huge issue is being ignored. There are plenty of non toxic alternatives but the angling trade would not find these as profitable so they continue to sell lead regardless of the damage it is doing. Common sense needs to prevail and lead angling weights need to be fully banned - the irony is that lead angling weights under 1 oz are already banned due to their toxicity! One final thought - what impact will all this lead that is now lost into the environment have within our drinking water going forward? There is so much at risk here, this is not a case of scaremongering but the highlighting of something the fishing industry promotes purely for profit regardless of the consequences - fact!4 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Simon Pomeroy
