Save Steward Wood - Our Appeal has been rejected - help us save our homesSteward Community Woodland is a hugely important project in terms of the global environmental challenges everyone is currently facing. We have created a far more sustainable way of living on this planet and are sharing the knowledge we have gained with the many hundreds of visitors we receive every year. From our beginnings in 2000, we've been living and working on the land we own for the past 16 years. We recently applied for permanent planning permission which was denied and followed by an appeal. This appeal has been turned down and now we are faced with the prospect of eviction. We NEED YOUR HELP to petition the Dartmoor National Park so we can continue living on the land with our children, all of whom have spent most there lives here. Please share this petition as much as you can.5,458 of 6,000 SignaturesCreated by Steward Wood

Short Break Funding Cuts in West BerkshireThe term ‘Short Breaks’ for families of disabled children, conjures up a beautiful and relaxed vision of families merrily enjoying weekends away, holidays abroad and special, celebratory times with family and all at the expense of the tax payer, when in reality this could not be further from the truth. These short breaks are periods of respite for the families giving them precious time to spend with their other children whose needs are, through sheer necessity, often placed a distant second to their disabled sibling’s complex care needs. This time often allows families do the ordinary everyday tasks that many of us take for granted, such as homework, going swimming, maybe a trip to the cinema and spending priceless time with their parents. Parents often carry out the more mundane domestic tasks such as washing, cleaning and shopping during these times. Other parents access these services to enable them to take part in social activities, maintain friendships and relationships, and access further training or have some simple down time to recuperate so they are able to continue to care for their child at home. The few short hours our special children spend at the specialised after-school clubs, Youth Clubs, Holiday Play Schemes, Saturday Clubs and overnight breaks, with highly trained staff who can meet their complex needs, enables many parents to continue to work full time and provide valuable financial contributions to the economy and local community. The short breaks undeniably enable families to cope with their extraordinary day to day life. The withdrawal of these short breaks will have a catastrophic effect on some families who will quickly become unable to cope and will be faced with one of the most heart breaking decisions any parent will be forced to make, which is to move their child into a residential setting, thus splitting their family forever. Our special children simply cannot access mainstream activities, no matter how much we would love this to be the case and these short breaks give each and every one of them the opportunity to socialise with their peers, to laugh, to play, to be children – how can anyone deny them this? Would it be acceptable to close all of the mainstream playgrounds, groups, holiday schemes, after-school clubs and social activities? The answer to this we are sure, would be a resounding NO! Parents of our special children must invest huge amounts of time and energy to meet the care requirements and demands of their disabled children and they do this without question and at great personal cost, as this is what parents do for their children. The savings being made are potentially equal to the cost just one child moving into residential care? By keeping the funding in place you will support hundreds of children and families for the same cost as one in care.325 of 400 SignaturesCreated by Caz Austin

Say no to intensive poultry & egg farming in PainscastleIntensive poultry and egg farming units are cropping up all over Brecon & Radnorshire. These units should have no place in our beautiful countryside, and we would urge farmers to diversify in more ethical and environmentally friendly ways. Plans have been submitted to Powys County Council for sheds crammed with 16,000 chickens to lay free range eggs. These will join 12,000 birds already housed elsewhere on the farm. We don’t want to see this happen. There are several reasons why: - - Lorry traffic on the narrow roads will increase significantly. The access road is dangerously narrow in parts. This is extremely unsafe and will add to noise and pollution in the area. - Ammonia from these units will cause unpleasant odours and impact on the neighbouring farms and residencies, some of which rely on tourism for income and could be badly affected. - The environment could suffer with nitrogen from the shed's ventilation shafts damaging surrounding flora and fauna. - Waste from these units threatens to contaminate the water system and harm wildlife in our local area. - The new farm buildings will severely affect the visual landscape of the area. We want to support a thriving local farming industry. We will support anyone who wants to diversify their farming mix to ensure a more sustainable future – but not if the price is irreparable damage to our beautiful part of the world. Please add your signature to this petition to try and stop yet another intensive poultry shed in Powys.319 of 400 SignaturesCreated by Louise Davies

Reform the Lords & Reduce Number of MPsMany Lords do not make use of their privilege, yet reportedly claim in full their allowances. An inherited title or given favour is poor guarantee that the person so elevated is actually qualified for shaping UK law. The inheritance of such influential positions is an outmoded mechanism of government and a huge waste of public funds. Likewise, the number of MPs inflates beyond reason the cost of running government.22 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Franz Opitz

Overturn the decision to allow gamekeeper to shoot and kill buzzardsIt is important to protect our wild birds and birds of prey. Buzzards were hunted to near extinction in the 19th century but have recovered to become of the most common birds in Northumberland. The reasons such as buzzards: will sometimes take young pheasantsand, or; the protection of gamekeepers livelihoods, are not good enough reasons for killing these beautiful native birds. Additionally, pheasants are a non-native bird which is reared for commercial shooting.374 of 400 SignaturesCreated by Susan Lorrimer

Save North Devon District Hospital's ServicesDevon healthcare is being placed under special measures, to cut a predicted financial shortfall of £440m by 2020. Government identifies the position as an overspend. Special measures for reducing this overspend, drawn up in guidelines titled the Success Regime, are set to re-configure services at many Devon hospitals. North Devon District Hospital, in Barnstaple, is the largest in North Devon, currently with elective and acute services. The Success Regime does not rule out that Acute services of A&E, Maternity, Stroke, and Paediatrics could disappear. Senior figures in the local healthcare system have said it is extremely unlikely that these services would be withdrawn but at the same time we have been told that "there are no red lines" meaning that anything could happen. NHSEngland is trying to push changes through as fast as possible. If these services are lost, local people would have to travel to Exeter or Plymouth for treatment. For very many these hospitals are over an hour or more away; very serious complications and deaths could and would occur. Even if acute services are maintained, despite plans to increase care at home, other services will doubtless also be affected meaning unacceptable wait and travel times for routine surgery such as hip and knee replacement Cross-party Campaigners against such closures read the situation as underfunding rather than overspending and are protesting the loss of services vitally important to the region. Because of its rural nature Devon is suffering more than most, but cuts like these are taking place across the country. We want Government to re-think their health care strategy which at present is far from clear and transparent, with NHS England taking funding from budgets for public health, education and training, capital spend and national bodies such as NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence). Spending in these areas is being cut by more than £3 billion over the next five years with very little information on how this decrease in spending will be managed. Rather than cutting vital services and thereby opening the door for privatized health care, the government should be having free and frank discussion about increasing funding for healthcare to include such measures as an hypothecated healthcare tax, more efficient tax collection, compulsory insurance contributions and taxes on harmful products like tobacco and sugar. A Protest DEMONSTRATION, drawing a RED LINE around our hospital services, will be held 23 August. Meet at Pilton Park 10.00am or outside Barnstaple Hospital 10.30-12.30pm. Please come along. Wear red, bring red ribbon. For more information www.sohs.co.uk2,253 of 3,000 SignaturesCreated by Rosemary Haworth-Booth

Ban Dangerous Pesticides in Waltham ForestThe use of glyphosates has already been banned or restricted in 8 countries. It is not acceptable that ourselves, our children and the animals we share our community with are being routinely exposed to these chemicals whether we like it or not. This is a matter of great importance for those of us who care about each other's health and the health of our children, our cats, our dogs and all the flora and fauna of this city, of course including our beloved bees. Save Old ChurchThe ensuing building work will cause congestion and noise pollution in a place already buzzing with life. The building is currently used by a specialist deaf caring group as one of 3 help centres is the country, or sometimes housing guardians - disadvantaged people allowed to live there and care for the property. The construction of flats could violate privacy of many residents of the road behind backing the church. Demolition of this building would remove a prominent landmark from Balham's skyline, losing a building dating back to the 1880's! Save the Royal Mile Market !The Royal Mile Market is Edinburgh's only permanent, 7-day, indoor marketplace. It is home to over 15 local businesses, brands and traders, all of whom are based entirely in Edinburgh. The market hosts: Artists, Designers, Muralists, Jewellers, Weavers, Musicians, Printers, Historians, and many more.... Now, a multi-million pound, London-based company have put in a bid to take the Tron Kirk away from us to use as a 'gift shop'. As the current tenants, we have the right to renew our lease at the current market rate before any other offers are considered - which we want to do! PLEASE, Edinburgh Council, don't take the livelihoods away from small-scale, Edinburgh-based businesses. We NEED the Tron Kirk. Between us we employ over 50 local people on top of providing a unique shopping destination and tourist attraction. In addition, many of our profits go directly back into the local economy. We have nowhere else to go. Thank you, The Traders of the Royal Mile Market WATCH THE VIDEO HERE: https://vimeo.com/17831414711,150 of 15,000 SignaturesCreated by Hannah Carpenter

Say No to Side permanent stickers on Private Hire VehiclesPrivacy for private hire drivers when off work and stops our vehicles getting damaged and vandalised when parked unattended!!! *Drivers should have a choice to use magnetic decals Instead of permanent stickers* *Ultimately it's cost private hire drivers who want to change their vehicle or change the firm they work for as the stickers can damage paintwork when being removed* *These stickers are extremely difficult to remove once they are on and have a tendency to damage the body work of the vehicle. It could cost a driver hundreds of pounds to have a respray job on both doors every time they want to move firms or change vehicle* "We think these are unreasonable costs being put onto the trade." *As far as public safety is concerned, you have to prove it. You can’t just say it’s for public safety. How does it keep the public safe?” Taxis in Wolverhampton are already well marked up. We have licenses in the front window with the plate number and a plastic plate fitted on the rear of the vehicle and are ‘easily identifiable! We also have a ring back and text service so that a customer can be texted or called and customers get full information of the job dispatched name of driver his picture, registration number of vehicle, colour of vehicle, make and model of vehicle. What more safety do they need??? “We are pre-booked, meaning a customer can expect a certain car from a certain company only! When they do get the ring back text, they will get the details of the driver, the vehicle make and model, registration number of vehicle etc etc There’s no chance of anyone getting into the wrong car.” We feel that the industry has become ‘OVER REGULATED'2,079 of 3,000 SignaturesCreated by WPHDA Wolverhampton Private Hire Drivers Association
