New figures, extracted from official NHS data, indicate that in 2013 no fewer than 3,208,014 adults were diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes [T2D] - an increase of more than 163,000 compared to 2012. T2D, which is currently incurable, is primarily caused by the addition of sugar to almost all prepared food and drink brands - even savoury and spicy products. The consequences of uncontrolled T2D are serious in the extreme. According to figures recently released by government body Public Health England, the number of diabetes-related amputations each week in England has now reached an all-time record high of 135 a week or 7,020 annually. For those who like their foods sweet and are prepared to risk incurring T2D, they are, of course, free to add as much sugar to their foods as they wish . The author of this petition is himself a T2D diabetic.

I was recently enjoying a lovely week end with my Husband visiting family on the IOW, I felt a niggle in my tooth as we were crossing over on the ferry (yes it was a Friday), we got there and had a lovely evening, tooth not feeling too bad. Saturday went well, had another lovely family time, tooth not too bad, then Saturday evening the pain started ..... I was up most of the night my tooth throbbing .....I took pain killer after pain killer .... Sunday morning in quite a lot of pain but took more pain killers and went out with the family (already arranged), by 12.00pm I could stand it no more, I rang around a few dentists, there was no provision for emergency treatment until Monday Morning .... OMG, I was now crying with pain ... I then rang 111, only to be told, I am really sorry, you have missed the only emergency dentist, they closed at 12.00 o'clock OMG, I am now pacing around like a mad woman in AGONY, my Husband suggests we visit A&E, by now it's 3.30pm, I didn't have to wait too long for the Doctor see me (he took pity on me) and said I am not a Dentist but, I can give you some Amoxil & pain killers until you see your own Dentist, now I do know that most A&E departments will not even give a person with Dental pain anything, even though they are in AGONY so I regard myself to be very fortunate! I went straight back to the hotel room and took a double dose of Amoxil & a painkiller, I can only say it took the pressure off enough to see the family later whom we had to abandon earlier. I got through the evening then went back to the hotel took another double dose of Amoxil & more painkillers, well what a night ...... I was still in a lot of pain, I must have drifted in and out of sleep. Monday morning I got up at 6.00 by now my face was very swollen, I looked and felt awful, I then decided to find a local Dentist (before the ferry home), I was waiting on the Dentists doorstep at 8.00am, I've never been so grateful to be at the Dentists! He looked at me pitifully then checked the tooth and yes, it was a full on nasty abscess, he prescribed me some stronger medication, I hurried to the chemist and took two tablets straight away, 20 mins later, OMG ..... I was now in even more agony, this can happen when the meds try to stop the infection from growing, the sepsis breaks down and deposits it in your bloodstream, it makes you feel very poorly, we decided to get an earlier ferry home!! We stopped in at my sister's on the way, as she lives in Bournemouth (who just happens to be a nurse), so I could try to rest, she was shocked when she saw me, by now it was nearly 2.00pm, I was due another dose of meds at 3.00pm, I took them & went to bed for an hour, I was now in and out of weird sleep, when I got up my sister was very concerned about my airway as my tongue was swollen as well as my neck, I also had a temperature, she took me to A&E. I was admitted immediately and within 30mins I was put on a drip being pumped full of antibiotics & fluids, I was now septic. Well as you can Imagine I was not a happy bunny, my face and neck looked like a misshapen football. I spent the evening in a little ward in A&E at Bournemouth Hospital, then at 4am was moved to Poole Hospital by Ambulance where they have a team of specialists, so there I am in Hospital for the best part of 5 days, being pumped full of antibiotics & fluids, followed by surgery & a drain in my neck!! After a day of observation I was released to go home on Friday with meds for another 5 days. It will take a few weeks for the swelling to go down and another week off work!! Can you see why it is important to have Emergency Dentists in A&E or elsewhere, to cover week-ends, if I could have seen a Dentist sooner I would not have been in this situation!! And it is the first time I have ever been in this situation!!! I am not a person who neglects her teeth, I have regular 6 monthly check ups! I have since heard so many similar horror stories about not getting treatment in time, why & when did severe pain (Dental) no longer become sympathetic by the medical profession?? Now Jeremy can you see how prevention is better then a cure!! Come on Jeremy Hunt, get this division sorted out between the NHS & Dentists!!

There has been growing concern about the damaging impact of sugar on health - from the state of people's teeth to type-2 diabetes and obesity. To put this in context, a typical can of fizzy drink contains about nine teaspoons of sugar How many do you put in your tea/coffee?

Will and Isaac Baker are brothers, aged 6 and 3, from Colchester, Essex. Their grandparents are active members of The Ark Methodist Church, and Will and Isaac's parents regularly bring Will and Isaac to Sunday School at The Ark. Both boys have a particular strain of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. PTC Therapeutics, based in the USA, have developed a drug - Translarna - which is the first drug ever to be developed specifically to treat the strain of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy which both Will and Isaac have. The drug has been approved in the European Union and in a small number of countries across the world. The drug has also been approved for a 6 month period for a boy in Scotland only last week. It is critical that NHS England approve this drug while the boys still have mobility and meet the prescribing criteria. Will, who is now 5 (his 6th birthday is next week), meets all the criteria to commence treatment immediately. Isaac is 3 yrs 7mths and hopefully will do so on his 5th birthday.

Every year one in five children in this country leave primary school clinically obese and set up for a lifetime of poor health and social and psychological issues. Without action thousands more will join them. Jeremy Hunt says this is a "great scandal" and in his first speech after being reappointed Health Secretary following the general election he said "It is something we cannot say that we accept". But far from leading the charge to improve the health of our children, our Health Secretary is sitting on the findings of a crucial review from Public Health England into reducing sugar consumption. 18 months ago Hunt asked Action on Sugar for a plan to prevent childhood obesity. With the help of their global experts they provided a plan with just seven actions but so far Hunt has done nothing. The government promised a child obesity strategy this year. The clock is ticking and every day more of the youngest and most vulnerable children tip the scales into clinical obesity. Sign this petition and together we can force Jeremy Hunt to publish the Public Health England review, respond to the plan presented by Action on Sugar and finally take action on childhood obesity.

The NHS will soon be on its knees. By having the BBC work for the NHS it will help boost the budget of the service that needs to be top of our preservation and improvement list. I am deliberately making this is a brief note because the simple ideas are the best and I do not want to be watering it down by long-winded explanations. In short, get the BBC working for the NHS.

Public health experts agree that a high sugar diet is a major cause of obesity, dental caries and other associated problems. High sugar foods are predominantly processed foods, cheap and pushed with advertisements. Education and publicity on their own are not enough to prevail against this. Government prefers that the industry should regulate itself, but no progress is being made that way. This report examined the potential to make progress through pricing and its publication would inform debate over solutions to this great public health issue.

I have been fighting for nearly 2 years to get drop kerbs installed on Cunningham road in Plymouth, to allow access for wheelchair and mobility scooters. I have mobility issues and rely on a scooter to get around, but with no drop kerbs, i cant leave my house. I have been lied to and treated like I don't matter by the council, and put onto a list for a fund that simply doesn't have enough money to do the work, meaning it will never be done. I have been told by the council that they don't have a budget for disability access issues and the only money available is £4000 in the living streets fund, while the work has been quoted as £5000. Why don't the council have a budget set aside for disability access issues? The discrimination act was put in place to prevent businesses from discriminating against disabled people yet the council don't have to do anything about it? I may only be one person asking for them, but not having them means my life is seriously effected as I do not have access to my GP, the hospital, the pain clinic or anywhere else. It is important that the council listen to what it's constituents need, are taken to account for failing to fulfil their job and are prepared for such occurrences with suitable budgets.

It contains too much caffeine in it that can give potential harm to children. It changes the way the heart beats and drinking a can of energy drink is enough to give a child caffeine poisoning. A local shop sold it to my 8 year old daughter who also bought a can for my grandson aged 7 it states on the can NOT to be given to children OR pregnant women, shops are flouting the warnings on the can and still selling it to children of which should not happen, hence why I set up this petition.

All current medication for these illnesses are very dangerous, often causing 30k of weight gain. Diabetes, abnormal muscle movements, seizures, hepatitis, disturbance in speech & language. Damage to liver & pancreas, loss of memory.The list is long. Current medication is no more than a tranquilliser or "knock on the head" rendering the sick subdued and helpless. Unable to take part in an active social life or go to work. My daughter was at university when she became ill. She weighed 9 stone or 58k, her life was just beginning. She now takes the only type of medication that is available. She now has no confidence, as not only has she, " lost her mind" she has, "lost her body" too as she now weighs 15 stone or 95k. She has no friends, no social life or a job. The medication she must take is not working, because she has not recovered. This is why it is so important to save young lives by developing new and safe medication for these serious illnesses. Many people with schizophrenia end up in prison, costing the government & tax payers, when they should be taking new, safe, medication & living normal lives. This is a global illness.

There is currently no safe way to cycle between Totnes and Newton Abbot. The A381 is the only route over the river Dart and it is simply too dangerous for cyclists. Access to footbridge, the only other bridge over the river, would enable cyclists and walkers to travel safely out of Totnes to the north east and west. This would ease congestion and improve the health and wellbeing of the residents of Totnes and Newton Abbot and all the villages that lie between. In addition, this route would serve to complete the missing link in the National Cycle Network. The route in question is called NCN2 and runs from Dover to St Austell. The missing link lies between Totnes and Newton Abbot. However, Devon County Council want to sign off an alternative route that bypasses Totnes altogether. We believe that this is a huge missed opportunity as it will have a negative impact on the town in the form of lost revenue from cycle tourism. Please help support our campaign by asking Devon Council not to bypass our town but to directly liaise with South Devon Railway to appease their concerns regarding security. The bridge was part funded by public money and is a valuable asset to Totnes and its transport infrastructure. However, it is only being used exclusively for customers of the railway and not for the overall benefit of the community. We need the council to help us convince the railway that we can secure their important tourist attraction and that opening up access to the bridge would actually benefit their business going forward. We have had discussions with both South West Water and the only private landowner involved, and neither have any serious objections to our proposal. Our petition has generated almost 3000 signatures, many with comments expressing the importance of the scheme to the local and wider community. What we are missing is support from Devon Council. We do not need another study, we do not need any more consultants, there are no other routes that offer value for money. Our proposal is a valid practical solution with many benefits to the local community in terms of congestion, health and tourism. Our proposal is backed by the community, Sustains, all the local schools, local businesses, local and regional MP's and is backed by South Hams District Council. We appreciate the cycle path will require an estimated £300,000 (although we believe this estimate to be excessive). We are happy to co-ordinate the funding process going forward, however this option will never come to fruition if we don't get agreement in the first place. So please Devon County Council - please don't sign off the National Cycle Network Route 2 so that it bypasses Totnes. Instead please get on side and help negotiate with the South Devon Railway to open up a public resource for the benefit of us all.

I believe this issue is important because we have to whatever we can to save the lives of those that have embarked on these journeys. These children have had to flee their homes in search for a better life and we need to provide some sort of comfort for them. A few Syrian kids were asked What makes you happy?
