• There's no place for UKIP in London Pride
In just a few days, the UK Independence Party will march in London Pride -- unless we stand up. UKIP opposes same-sex marriage. Their leader, Nigel Farage, says immigrants with HIV should be banned from the UK. Secretary general Matthew Richardson has called trans women "she-males." PPC Alan Harris has said "why cant i say in my own bloody country black is still a colour and gay are still queers." https://d8s293fyljwh4.cloudfront.net/petitions/images/107458/hero/6062423-large.jpg The list goes on. • Investigate Argyll and Bute Council
Many people living in Argyll and Bute are concerned at the serious allegations contained in the Common Space articles written during February and March 2015. Some of these allegations relate to the failed community buyout of Castle Toward which over 10,000 people supported in a previous 38 degrees petition. The Chief Executive of the council, Sally Loudon has been asked by some local residents and by the MSP Mike Russell to instigate an independent investigation into these allegations. So far the response has been they cannot because the allegations are anonymous despite there being precedents for the investigation of anonymous allegations in many areas of public life including the Police, Social Services and Health Boards. Sally Loudon has also given written responses saying the allegations are untrue but without a full, thorough and independent investigation this is unsatisfactory and leaves too many questions unanswered. The General Register of Scotland recently published figures showing a continuing serious decline in the population of Argyll and Bute. We need to know the council is working for the good of the local people and stop this decline in an area rich with natural assets and so much potential for growth.

  • Keep passengers safe: Don't break-up & privatise Network Rail
Network Rail was formed in 2002 after the tragic failure of the privately-owned Railtrack plc, which was heavily criticised over several fatal train crashes in the late 1990s (particularly in Southall and Ladbroke Grove where 38 people lost their lives). It was acknowledged at the time that profit-making had proven incompatible with the need to put the public’s safety first. The Shaw Report, commissioned by the government and published in March 2016, recommended that passenger safety on tracks should not be handled by any private company. Re-privatising Network Rail would be a disaster. Not only is it the unnecessary sell-off of yet another important public asset, but it is also the wilful return to the failed experiment that was Railtrack plc. It would lead to yet more fragmentation and confusion on our railways and result in rising costs for taxpayers and falling safety standards for passengers. • SAY NO TO A WIND TURBINE ON DRUMMAU MOUNTAIN
Drummau Mountain is a peaceful, natural environment for quiet enjoyment, not an industrial zone. The area is an attraction for walkers and horse-riders. ‘Climbing Drummau’ to explore nature and its wildlife, free from traffic and noise, has been a favourite pastime of local children for generations. The installation of a 77-metre high, noisy turbine along with the construction of access tracks would result in the destruction of this activity and wildlife habitat. Drummau Mountain is a heritage asset. It is home to the standing stone Carreg Bica and to prehistoric cairns which are important to the archaeology of the area. Neath Port Talbot Council’s Alfred Russel Wallace Trail promotes visiting Drummau Mountain as a leisure pursuit, bringing tourism into the borough. In a press release in 2013, the Leader of Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council, Cllr Ali Thomas said: "We are proud that our beautiful and diverse county played such a pivotal part in Wallace's life and a key role in the development of scientific theory. It is great that the natural environment Wallace fell in love with is still visible today.” The visual impact of this wind turbine will be detrimental and a significant part of Wallace’s Trail will be destroyed. This is not an objection to the Council’s green energy policies. There are other large wind farm developments in Neath Port Talbot. It is a question of balance and choice over a suitable environment...... PLEASE SIGN

  • Require 2/3rds majorities for constitutional changes
By requiring 2/3rds majority assent it will ensure that significant changes to the governance of Britain are seen as clearly legitimate. This is especially important with major changes (such as the possible exit from the EU) as many of these changes will be either irreversible, or very difficult to change back. By requiring a 2/3rd majority on Bills before Parliament with a major constitutional affect it would also ensure that there is reasonable negotiation between parties and that such changes would reflect the interests of the public as a whole.

  • Allow clapping in the House of Commons and improve other 'Parliamentary behaviour'.
Because the Speaker admonished SNP MP's for clapping (a traditional way of showing approval) yet allows braying, guffawing, jeering, gestures and bellowing week after week, particularly at PM question times- which is one reason MPs are not respected.

  • Votes for 16+
This vote is not an election. It is a referendum. Young people will be affected more than the elderly. They have as much right, if not more, to have their voices heard.

  • Stop the sale of housing association housing
In the first place, it advantages folk who are paying far less rent than those who have to rent in the private sector. They should not then be able to buy the houses at a cut price, while reducing the stock of affordable housing. It isn't as if we have an oversupply of such housing and it really isn't fair! People in affordable housing should use their advantage to save a deposit and buy on the open market, like everyone else has to do which would free up their housing association house for those who need it. We need more affordable housing not less. We have families in bed and breakfasts.

  • Defend disabled people's right to independent living
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6P-z10pKGdc The new Minister for Disabled People, Justin Tomlinson MP says the most important part of his job is to offer "disabled people the same opportunities to reach their goals as non-disabled people." Yet on 30 June the government will close the Independent Living Fund (ILF) which provides essential support to disabled people with the highest support needs to live in the community amongst friends and family. The closure of the ILF means that the 17,500 disabled people who are currently able to employ assistants to help with everyday tasks from getting out of bed to going to work, will instead be forced into care homes or effectively imprisoned in their own homes. Last year, a high court ruling about the decision to close the fund referred to "the inevitable and considerable adverse effect" this would have on disabled people and how "independent living might well be put seriously in peril for... most (or a substantial number of) ILF users." This is because the government will give responsibility for the fund to cash strapped local authorities which will not be able to cope as they are already suffering huge cuts of 26% to social care funding with a further £10 billion cuts in the pipeline. The Association of Directors of Adult Social Services has said it cannot take any further pressure and disability experts agree that the future looks bleak for disabled people. The governments of Scotland and Northern Ireland have committed to create their own versions of the ILF, and the Welsh government has said it will put money aside to help recipients for 9 months. This leaves people currently receiving the ILF in England unprotected. Sometimes it's hard to know what the right thing is. This is not one of those times. Please sign the petition now and tell Prime Minister David Cameron and his new minister Justin Tomlinson MP to keep the Independent Living Fund open, or at least ring fence the money at local authority level. Remind them that the UK is better than this.
