Lets stop envelopes with plastic windows!Plastic is a major polluter of landfill sites and more and more of our plastic is ending up in our oceans. Every year the amounts increase. We need to take steps, even small ones, to protect our world for our children and grandchildren.5 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Julian Stokes

Extend the "move on period" for refugees in the UK to avoid destitution.A baby boy known as EG starved to death because his family weren't given the support they needed by the government. His mother, an asylum seeker left destitute after not being able to recieve benefits, was rendered unconcious for several days after suffering a rare brain infection; leaving her unable to feed her child. She also died two days after her son. Had EG's family been given the support they needed by the government, this might not have happened. Unfortunately starvation and destitution is the shocking reality for many refugees in the UK. Currently, in the UK the "move on period" is 28 days. This means that refugees who have been granted asylum in the UK get 28 days of housing and/or benefits before they are left to fend for themselves regardless of whether or not they have been able to find their own residency and employment. However most of the time it takes much longer than 28 days for refugees to receive documents from the home office that allow them to live and work in the UK. There have even been reports of refugees waiting months for their papers despite being forced out of their accommodation before recieving them. This is incredibly unfair and results in many refugees becoming destitute; leaving them vulnerable, isolated and often living in extreme poverty. Please help support this campaign by signing the petition and hopefully we can make a positive change to the lives of the thousands of refugees living in the UK.23 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Olivia Aveyard

Time to stop single-use plastic tampon applicatorsTampax worked well using cardboard applicators so there's no need for plastic. These things are having a massive impact on our coastlines. In their 2016 beach clean-up, the Marine Conservation Society found twenty tampon applicators and sanitary items per 100m of shoreline! We need Procter and Gamble to take responsibility for the single use plastics they are releasing into the environment and to discontinue the production of plastic applicators.15 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Angela Blackwell

Biodegradable Cling FilmThe UK uses 1.2 BILLION meters (745,000 miles) of plastic clingfilm every year and it goes straight to landfill as it cannot be recycled and not easily reused. This is not an easy product to replace with eco-friendly alternatives in the home or catering industry.50 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Sarah Daykin

Piercing law age restriction ukBabies cant talk for themselves, they dont understand whats right from wrong and causing unnecessary harm to a child should be banned. Piercings arent because the baby wants it, its because parents want their babies to look pretty. Its unhygenic and with children touching their ears all the time it causes infection. Why would you cause your child unnecessary pain for something thats aesthetically pleasing to you. Its not necessary. Lawyers have classed piercings as surgical operations as you are having your skin opened up. My daughter had her ears pierced without my consent and had severe infections to the point of the ear being so swollen that it swallowed the backing of the stud and the ear had to be cut to retrieve the backing of the stud. Until kids understand the care and cleaning that a piercing takes, they should not be allowed to be pierced.62 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Gemma Dawson

Crawley Public Green Energy InitiativeFor a long time the country has - for the most part - relied on fossil fuels to power our houses, businesses and transportation. These fossil fuels are becoming harder and harder to pull from the earth and the effects are devastating. Not to mention the fuels we are now receiving are severely reduced in quality - what is known as "dirty fuel." Our government spends billions in subsidies on the polluting fuel sources, a market that is drastically unsustainable. Crawley is a constantly developing town. The past five years have seen the town move from having thirteen districts to fourteen and the outskirts, once fields and forest land, are now developing communities. It is clear more people are seeing the geographical benefits of the town, nestled between London and Brighton. Not only this, Gatwick Airport offers a variety of jobs and links to myriad destinations around the globe. This is where I see the importance of this initiative. As more and more people move into the area, large-scale developments are taking place. Our carbon footprint is growing, as are the prices we pay for energy. The Public Green Energy Initiative aims to move people away from relying on corporations ownership of our energy so that we, as consumers, are no longer under the threat of dramatically increasing energy prices. Not only would moving to green energy be sustainable for the future, it gives people an opportunity to reduce costs and feed energy back into the grid. This lowers our prices and helps us build a local economy in green energy infrastructure. Gatwick Airport (LGW) has already started its own initiative by changing all of its bulbs to LED's (runway included) and plans to become the worlds first entirely LED lit airport. If the surrounding town of Crawley joins in turning to renewable sources of energy, the town and conjoined airport could become a model for the country. The extra added benefit - if we turn to become a green energy town, there is a huge opportunity for a total change in town, transport and community planning. Bus routes could be added and subsidized by local council in order to reduce the need for cars for small journeys. This means that areas of the town would be more accessible for workers, the elderly and the youth. Cycle routes would be improved and cycle initiatives, such as the cycle to work scheme, could be promoted through local companies. By making the energy public, the public get the vote on where their energy comes from and therefore gain independence and pride in taking part in something large-scale.13 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Sam Cox

Reject Park Lane Group Housing Development in Strand MeadowThere are many reasons why houses should not be built in this area, and the developer "Park Lane Group" are using well-known loopholes in the system in an attempt to build homes for pure profit without taking into account the needs and concerns of the local community. - Originally, 12 out of 30 homes were to be 'affordable'. However, recent revised plans show all properties to be full market value because the developer has now deemed the project to be no longer viable if any of the homes are made 'affordable'. This is a well-known planning loophole to get around the requirements set by government and council that all new planning developments on AONB (areas of natural beauty) should include a minimum amount of affordable housing. - This development does nothing to provide homes to meet known local housing needs - People in Burwash need housing the can afford and must not be priced out of the village by the greed of housing developers - The planning protection afforded by the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natual Beauty (AONB) must not be chipped away by speculative housing developments - The field and its surrounding ecology should not be destroyed for an exclusively 'non-affordable' estate - The lack of parking in Strand Meadow creates severe traffic congestion. The problems of the extra traffic that will be generated during the construction of the houses and after the houses are occupied have not been properly addressed - The developer's traffic report is outdated and uses data from 2006. Photographs of the area were deliberately taken at a time when there was less traffic in Strand Meadow and does not accurately portray the amount of cars parked during evenings and weekends. Most importantly, there is already limited access for emergency service vehicles and refuse collections. - Burwash Traffic already created danger for pedestrians and other road users: a) at the A265 junction with Shrub Lane, b) the narrow ends of the High Street and c) along Shrub Lane - Changes to the drainage provisions requested by East Sussex County Council to reduce risks of flooding and protect the River Rother from further deterioration have been ignored - The design of the housing is wholly unsuitable and the density of housing units within the AONB is too great - Plans for sewage disposal have been left deliberately vague. Southern Water have confirmed they have no extra capacity to handle sewage. The Environment Agency's stated policy is that permits for treatment plants where there is existing sewage pipework are likely to be refused.85 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Martyn Wright
