• Keep Safety Critical Conductors On The Train at Northern Rail
It is important to retain Safety Critical Conductors on Train Services ran by this franchise as they provide an effective security presence on board for all passengers, they are also there to carry out "emergency protection" of running lines in the event of an incident. Safety Critical Conductors also take on the emergency protection duties of the Train Driver should the driver become incapacitated in the unfortunate event of an incident. Safety Critical Conductors are responsible for the provision of customer service and a punctual train service also. Ensuring a punctual, safe and efficient service for all customers.

  • Say NO to Private car park in Bridge Gardens
Everyone wants to walk beside the river on the THAMES PATH National Trail but at Maidenhead there is a 30 metre missing-link which needs to be completed in accordance with the Council's Rights of Way Improvement Plan of 2005. A recent decision to complete this riverside link has been overturned in favour of a roadside footpath along the A 4094 which will require a PRIVATE CAR PARK built in BRIDGE GARDENS conservation area. This car park will be for office staff and owners of the adjacent property 'Bridge View' in Ray Mead Road, where some do not have parking space and are unlawfully using the existing footway. A campaign has been ongoing for many years to establish a riverside path over a former boatyard slipway. But now the Council plan to confine walkers to a narrow pavement beside a busy road instead and destroy an area of public gardens. BRIDGE GARDENS was secured through a Compulsory Purchase Order by the Council in 1946 when it was described as an attraction quite unique 'for the benefit of all the residents of Maidenhead'.

  • Billy Boy's Safety Campaign
On Sunday the 21st of July 2013 our brother the eldest of eight siblings(Billy piercy) who had down syndrome and learning difficulties returning to his home following an outing. The minibus he was traveling in came to an abrupt halt. A car in the wrong lane turned right into the side street, forcing the driver of the minibus to break hard. Billy was propelled forward and hit his head on a ledge on the floor of the minibus. It is thought that Billy had unfastened his seat belt unknown to his carer. Billy died three days later on the 24th of July 2013 at 11:50pm surrounded by loved ones. We believe as a family that Billy would still be with us today if the mini bus had been fitted with a seat belt alarm. These alarms cost as little as £4.99. One of the first questions me and my family asked was why didn't the alarm go off when Billy had unfastened his seat belt? This is why we want to make seat belt alarms compulsorily for organisations carrying vulnerable adults and children with learning difficulties. This is why we have set up the Billy Boys Safety Campaign. As a parent of three children they have all undone their seat belts at a young age. I am asking you to please help by signing this partition and share your experiences by leaving a comment. Thank you from the piercy family .

  • A Democratic Alternative to the Monarchy
This is important to create a more equal country, We currently have a system where one family has special status, power and privileges. This is a corrupt system and enables the continuation of the class system. The Monarchy is something that should be consigned to history if we want to move forward as a more equal and democratic country in the 21st century. We would still have the history and Royal Palaces, which could be open to tourists. However we would no longer have a system where most people are second class citizens in their own country.

  • Keep Drama GCSE
JP Morgan identify teamwork, communication, project management, self-confidence and creativity as essential characteristics in graduates. Drama GCSE explicitly teaches and develops all these skills, which are desirable in any work environment. Our nation is famed for its culture. The theatre industry and related tourism brings great revenue to the country, not to mention our fantastic exports in film and television. Far deeper than this is the impact of Drama on a person's character. Shakespeare needs to be performed, spoken, enacted and felt to truly be understood. Reading is not enough. Where will the next Shakespeare come from if we remove Drama GCSE? It would easy to write Drama off as a sub-set of English. As a Head of Drama working for many years in the UK's most diverse postcode I am am keenly aware of the transformational, inspirational effect of practical Drama on young people's lives. Some of my former students are now professional actors. This would not have been possible without GCSE Drama. By removing Drama from the GCSE roster, it would become the preserve of those well-off enough to afford private tuition. We must maintain access for all.

  • Save Environmental Studies!
Please do not ignore how important this subject is, it may one day save our planet. Education is the most powerful tool in saving the planet and helping us sustain ourselves and further generations. Environmental Studies has not just empowered students, but also changed the way they think and act about their education, their lives, and where they live. For me it's been the biggest page turner in my life, and without it I wouldn't be where I am now. This subject hasn't just helped me, it has helped countless other young adults in the UK find their passion in life and set them on their path for life, who are we to deprive others of such an opportunity? Furthermore it has actually encouraged students to go into STEM subjects at university, something that the government actually would like more people to do. Whilst some think that Environmental Studies overlaps with the other sciences, i can assure you the approach to similar topics is far from the same and each take their own angles and focus on completely different areas. This is a subject that deserves our attention, our care, and our devotion. We only have one earth, we only have one chance at this life, and how are we supposed to understand how we are affecting our home if we are not educated. If you would like to help us please sign this petition and email ofqual to speak your mind on the matter, we also have a facebook page up and running where we will post updates, important information, and some Environmental Studies related news just to show how much of an impact and how important this subject is! • End circus animal cruelty
Forcing wild animals to perform in circuses causes needless suffering. Beautiful wild Animals – like tigers, lions and zebras – are shunted around the country in trailers, kept alone in small cages, and forced to perform. The best circuses have long abandoned this cruel practice and wow their audiences with talented acrobats and clowns. We aim to finally tackle those few dodgy circuses that still exploit wild animals. Animal welfare experts like the RSPCA and the British Veterinary Association all back a ban on circus animal cruelty and they and many other animal welfare organisations have done fantastic work campaigning for a ban on wild animals in circuses. We were expecting a ban to be announced in the Queen's speech - but this was recklessly dropped at the last hour. For more information: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/dismay-as-proposed-ban-on-circus-animals-is-left-out-of-queens-speech-9487481.html

  • Get the England team to play the Kayapó tribe after the World Cup
The tribe are fighting with the Brazilian government to try and stop the deforestation that is leading to the destruction of the Rainforest, the place they have called home for many many years. If we could make this happen, it would help hugely to draw attention to the pressing matter of Amazonian Rainforest destruction and to help to conserve the rich cultures of the native Amazonian people that protect the land. In an open letter to the England Manager, Roy Hodgson, the Kayapó leader (Chief Megarón) said: "We live beside the Xingu River in the eastern part of the Amazonian rainforest. Our village is very traditional and we still live as our forefathers, so this would be a great opportunity for you to see how we live"

  • Stop North York Moors Public Toilet Closures
There are already many millions of visitors to the area each year, hikers, cyclists and motorists, a number which Scarborough Borough Council's Tourism Strategy is seeking to increase. The removal of public toilets in this area will leave many people in distress and will discourage tourism in the area.

  • SAVE GOOD HOPE'S LOCAL SERVICES
UPDATE 17/10/14: Please join us for the public meeting about Good Hope Hospital at Sutton Town Hall on Thursday, October 23rd at 7pm: https://you.38degrees.org.uk/events/save-good-hope-public-meeting We'll meet beforehand at The Royal Hotel, Sutton Coldfield at 6pm. Our Campaign Group, `Save Good Hope's Local Services', is a group of local people who use and care very much about our local Hospital, Good Hope in Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands. We are independent of any political Party. Our aims are simply to ensure i) the Heart Of England Trust hold a Public Meeting to explain to their very worried patients from all areas covered by the Hospital what the proposals for change are in detail and so to also enable the patients to voice their concerns and maybe even be reassured; ii) Saying NO to any closures of key departments within the Hospital, as some of the proposals for change allegedly involve the transference of certain key services from Good Hope to other Hospitals within the Trust, Heartlands and Solihull; both great distances to travel for many people and particularly difficult for Carers and those they care for; the elderly, very young and disabled. We were very close to achieving the first aim earlier this year, when the previous Chair of the Trust (who is apparently leaving this month!) along with another Trust official, asked some of our Campaign Group who attended meeting with them in January of this year, to jointly organise such a Public Meeting with the Trust in March. That meeting was suddenly stopped after local MP's met with Trust leaders. Since then, we continued campaigning. However many people are very anxious about the future of their local Hospital, particularly after today's Newspaper headlines, stating the axing of 1000 beds in Hospitals under this Trust across the city (of Birmingham). The Trust have stated several times in the media that they would consult with the public, but so far have refused to name a date for any such consultation/meeting. Therefore, we are asking for one asap, because of the great anxiety regarding details about the Trust's proposals. We and many others feel that now openness and transparency from this Trust towards the huge number of patients it serves, is urgently needed. It is greatly lacking at present and we are asking the Trust to start to `think like a patient' and honour their promise.

  • Save Cuckoo Hill Field, Frome
A planning application (Mendip District Council reference 2013/2608/OTS) is outstanding on a field that lies between Packsaddle Way, Frome and the hamlet of Spring Gardens. The application for 107 properties would effectively link the two communities together and would mean building on land beyond the town boundary, in open countryside – thus setting a dangerous precedent for future planning applications in the town. Whilst the date for objection to this planning application has passed (March 2014) we remain concerned about the potential outcome. By signing this petition, we wish to record our objection to this application and ask the authorities to reject this proposal. This petition is coordinated by PROD, a local group whose objective is to protect the fields and valley lying to the north of Packsaddle and Mendip Drive estates, stretching to Innox Hill and Spring Gardens, from residential development.
