• Save Community Assets from Change of Use
ACV listing is rare in Brent. Only two buildings have achieved this status: Queensbury Pub, and Kensal Rise Library. Both are located in areas undergoing 'gentrification' and they have been purchased by private developers who are seeking to strip or demolish the current structures in order to convert to residential use. Achieving ACV listing is no small feat, an application must demonstrate that the building has recently been used by the community, and that it has the ability to continue to be used by the community. Both the Queensbury and Kensal Rise Library met these strict criteria, but because they are situated in areas of rising property values their listing, and their very existence, is under threat. Hundreds of pubs and libraries in the UK have closed in the last several years, and many have looked to ACV listing as a way to protect much loved facilities. ACV should provide a network of support once achieved, but if Brent does not stand behind their listed properties, it will set a terrible precedent that will jepordise these two historic structures and make other ACV listings much more vulnerable as well. We need to protect our community spaces, because a society without places to congregate, isn't a society at all. Please stand with us to protect our community assets, and keep the private profiteers at bay. • Make The Mail on Sunday Apologise
Rather than discussing the horrendous economic situation that has forced many people to use food banks, the article focused on the warped idea that food banks are merely an easy means of obtaining free food. This is not true, and suggesting this is an insult to the thousands of decent people who are living in poverty because of the cavalier attitude to unemployment and enormous welfare cuts that have been imposed by the government, which is supported by the Mail on Sunday. While we need a strong media to bring the ills in society to our attention, it is also important that the media should be honest and should not misrepresent issues for political gain or out of mere hatred. When the media uses inaccurate reporting to mislead the public, we must take action to stop them.

  • Havant Road crossing
The lack of a pedestrian crossing of any description concerns me and other residents/parents greatly. As I said above, this is a main school route for parents walking their children to the local Infant and junior schools. As a househusband, I also walk my 6 and 9 year old to these schools every day. I designed a simple petition and collected nearly 200 signatures requesting the council to install an official pedestrian controlled crossing. I sent the petition off a long time ago, and have had numerous emails and telephone calls to, and from various people at Portsmouth City Council, local MP’s, local councillors and both head teachers, all supporting myself and other residents for our wish to see a crossing installed, but so far nothing has been done. At a recent council meeting, I was informed that there had been a cut in funding, and although my proposal for a crossing wasn’t dismissed outright, I quote from an email from the council that;- “this scheme has been put forward and we will await confirmation of the 2014/15 LTP programme early next year after proposals are taken to Cabinet. This usually occurs annually around March. After scheme submission, officers have little involvement and await feedback from senior managers early next year.” On a relevant issue, my son's friend got knocked over on Havant Road a few years ago, albeit at the pedestrian crossing near the small Tescos and Post Office further along Havant Road. Yet this simply reiterates the need for an official crossing, proving that this road is a busy thoroughfare, and accidents can happen even when there are pedestrian crossing installed. So to avoid another accident, there must be a pedestrian controlled crossing installed.

  • Turn Hereford Traffic Lights To Part-Time Status 7pm-7am
All of these traffic lights are relatively pointless during off peak times and often motorists become frustrated and impatient while being forced to sit at red lights, this can often be at 2am when there are clearly no other vehicles in sight! By signing our petition you are in strong favour of these signals being changed to PART-TIME status from 7pm-7am

  • INSULTING BEHAVIOUR BY THE MAYOR
He said in a meeting with regard to people living with disabilities "Are we still letting these mongols have sex with each other?" This remark comes from this man's MIND and someone who thinks that way should not be allowed to hold any public office. When I saw this on Facebook I was shocked to the core. I'm concerned about the people living with disabilities who this man is supposed to serve. How can he serve them as a Mayor or Councillor when he thinks like this, surely he'll put them right at the bottom of the pile. You can read more about the story here: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/swindon-mayor-says-sorry-for-calling-disabled-people-mongols--but-charities-dismiss-forced-apology-9258603.html

  • Reinstate Deborah Hopkins as Parliamentary Candidate for Labour
Ms Hopkins' refreshing and blunt honesty about how the poor and disabled people of our great country is an eye opener, all she has done is speak the truth, and honesty is sorely lacking in the House of Commons. Labour needs people of this calibre who will fight tooth and nail for what they believe in, who hold issues passionately close to their heart and are not afraid to voice them as loudly as possible. We need more people like Deborah in Parliament, Representatives who place the needs and suffering of their constituents before personal ambition and greed. • Dismissal of Barbara Driver
Barbara Driver’s comments, which came during the meeting about plans to build 30,000 homes in Tewkesbury, Cheltenham and Gloucester, prompted outrage on Wednesday and were described as “repulsive” and “atrocious” by Cheltenham Borough Council Peter Jeffries. The Conservative councillor later apologised for the remark, which compared the "inevitability" of the building of new houses in the area with rape, “There is a saying and I am going to say it: When rape is inevitable, lie back and enjoy it,” she told the meeting. In an open letter to Cheltenham Borough Council, addressed to the Mayor, Councillor Wendy Flynn, Ms Driver said she realised her remark was “completely inappropriate and thoughtless and should not have been said”.The letter read: “I am therefore writing an open letter to the council to offer my sincere apologies for the comment I made.“As an elected member of the council I believe that on this occasion I have fallen short of the high standards expected of a councillor and for that I am deeply sorry and I wish to place my apology on record through this letter.” Her remark was criticised by Karen Clarke, from the Gloucestershire Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre (GRASAC), who described it as “quite shocking”."Rape has a devastating impact and there's no possibility that anyone could ever lie back and enjoy it,” she told the BBC."When people in positions of power make throw away and flippant comments like this it perpetuates the myths around rape."Someone in a position of authority should know better. Apologies are not enough."

  • stop the sale of live animals in pet shops.
There are many illegal birds and amphibians, brought into the country to be sold in our pet shops. Not to mention people breeding cats and dogs to be sold there too. Puppies and kittens less than six weeks old, are left all night unattended while the shops are shut. This is cruel and unecessary, especially as there are so many unwanted animals languishing in rehoming centres. Please sign the petition and let's stop this trade in animals.

  • Legalise Cannabis in the UK, and fully legalise hemp.
This is Important because Cannabis is proven to help as a medicinal natural option while people have certain illnesses such as cancer and MS. We would be able to produce no polluting bio-degradable plastic. The oil crisis the world is facing would no longer be part of britains troubles as hemp oil could be used from the stem of the cannabis plant. There is a possibility that there would be less deforestation(which doesn't really apply to uk but it's worth a point) as we could produce hemp paper, And we wouldn't need wood to burn as we would have the hemp oil. According to a recent source Cannabis has been statistically found to cure 7 out of 10 cancer patients. Whereas Chemotherapy has been statistically found to have killed 7 out of 10 cancer patients. As to how true this is i do not no. I hope you will take the time to read through this and make action, not just for the stereotypical stoners that some of the public seem so afraid of, But for the welfare, healthcare, and wealth of the United Kingdom. Thank You.

  • SAVE FRANK JAMES MEMORIAL HOSPITAL
The Frank James Memorial Hospital in East Cowes, Isle of Wight is a Grade 2 Listed building built and designed by famous architects John Thomas Micklethwaite and Summers Clark in 1893. The cherished and local landmark was originally a Seamans's Mission and later in 1903, under the patronage of Princess Beatrice became a local cottage hospital and remained so untill it was closed in 2002 and sold by the NHS. Since then it has remained empty and derelict and is now at serious risk of being lost after a decade or failed attempts of conversion work and vandalism.
