• Ban shark fin soup and the sale of shark fins in the UK
Shark populations around the world are in rapid decline. Sharks grow relatively slowly, take many years to mature and produce relatively few young. These characteristics make sharks, like this porbeagle, particularly vulnerable to over-exploitation. This vulnerability is exacerbated by the large and growing demand for shark fins and the general lack of management of shark fishing. Populations simply cannot replenish at the same rate as they are caught and finned to meet market demand. Banning the sale of shark fins and shark fin soup in the UK will be one step in the right direction to protecting all species of shark around the globe. It is cruel to leave sharks to die in the ocean with all of their fins removed from their bodies. Help put an end to the endangerment and cruelty to sharks and make the UK a better place.

  • Save chicks in Surrey
It is important because it is exploitation of voiceless animals for entertainment. There are other ways to have fun at Easter and there are other ways to "educate" children where their food comes from.

  • Enforce muzzles on hunting hounds when out with local hunts
Too many pets have been killed in their own gardens by hounds who are allegedly trail-hunting or on a ride out with the hunt, as in the case at Norbury Junction on the 13th March 2018. This episode again revealed that the hunt have little or no control over their hounds once an animal is scented and makes a joke of the current fox hunting ban. Enforcing the use of muzzles may help to prevent other animals experiencing such a barbaric and grotesque death, and should also benefit the hunt by ensuring they remain on the right side of the law. Hunts found to have unmuzzled hounds should have these animals confiscated and prosecuted accordingly. Hunts who are found to have hounds which have killed foxes, pets or livestock should also be prosecuted and the dogs treated in the same way as any other dangerous dog.

  • Ban the use of stink pits in England
Stink pits are fenced enclosures, bins or holes dug out by gamekeepers who then fill them with rotting carcasses of discarded game birds, as well as other wild and domestic animals in order to attract target species such as foxes in to a large quantity of snares. In this photo, taken on a Sheffield moor, it appears that ‘non-target’ species are being repeatedly captured - in this case mountain hares. The current approach to managing the Sheffield moors appears to be having a significant and detrimental effect on the local mountain hare population. This excessive use of snares by gamekeepers does not follow DEFRA's code of practice on the use of snares, or the industry's good practice guidance (e.g. BASC) of "quality over quantity". This is why we are calling for a ban on stink pits.

  • Our hedgehogs need help
DEFRA has approved the A24 trap trap used in New Zealand to kill hedgehogs for use in the UK. The government have approved the trap for use on rats and stoats, and expect people using the trap to make sure they don’t accidentally trap hedgehogs. But hedgehog expert Hugh Warwick thinks this will make little difference: “The reality is nobody is going to be policing it, nobody is going to be out there, and hedgehogs will get caught in these traps” Hedgehogs are a protected species in the UK, it’s illegal to trap and kill them, even accidentally. Due to the destruction of their habitat by the removal of hedgerows this British favourite has come into urban areas and sought food and safety in our gardens. This has resulted in many deaths as they find most gardeners use slug pellets which are toxic to them and the other main danger for them in urban areas is road death.

  • National Trust Board of Trustees to consider their positions.
The board no longer represents the views of it's members, or the public on hunting. Trail hunting does not exist and was created to exploit loopholes in the Hunting Act. All of the hunts involved have vowed to continue hunting, and habitually go hunting without trails being laid with a pack of dogs trained to kill Foxes. They could easily convert to drag hunting if they wished to avoid killing animals, instead they go armed with terrier-men whose only purpose is to dig out animals that are hiding in fear of their lives. Despite banning terrier-men on National Trust land, the hunts still regularly go out to kill animals with no evidence of a trail being laid, and the National Trust do nothing to monitor the activity that they licence, instead answering their members concerns with disingenuous copy and paste answers, and all of this after they used their block vote to override the members wishes. Enough is enough, it is time for them to go!

  • Clearer symbol based labels on packaging for flowers and plants which are toxic to pets.
Not many people are aware of the dangers of certain house plants and flowers if they have house pets. Currently it is only in small print on certain varieties and it is not clear enough - perhaps if buying a gift for someone, you would not notice it. Treatment for suspected lily poisoning in cats is over £600. A simple symbol could save lives, heartache and could prevent a well meant gift from being a fatal mistake.

  • Remove plastic from teabags
The petition I started last year with 38 Degrees to remove all plastic from tea bags succeeded in persuading the UK's largest tea bag manufacturer, Unilever/PG Tips to remove plastics from their teabags. But the other leading UK teabag manufacturers are still using plastics in their teabags. The issue of having these plastics (polypropylene) in teabags is a concern. 20-25% plastic in each teabag is not a small or insignificant amount when multiplied up by the millions and millions of tea bags consumed daily. These plastics do not biodegrade in the environment. There have been many campaigns to keep plastics and microplastics out of our seas, highlighting the harm they do to marine life. But the same is true of plastics on land as they can cause harm to birds and small mammals. We need to keep ALL plastics OUT of our environment. We know that it is possible to use other materials that are biodegradable and I am told by a major European teabag paper manufacturer that there is a “Gold Standard” of cellulose-based bags that will readily compost in your garden compost bin, which, in fact, goes a stage better than the PLA-based bags about to be employed by PG Tips and Coop. With your support, we can make the other UK teabag manufacturers remove plastic from their tea bags.

  • Colgate, Let The EU Residents Recycle Their Toothbrushes!
Currently, in America, you can have your toothbrushes, toothpaste tubes and other Colgate products recycled, and you even get payed for it! You send it to Terracycle and they turn it into other products for building materials. But not in the EU! We have to pay to have them recycled and it costs over £100 a box! Toothbrushes and toothpaste tubes wash onto our beaches in the millions every day, if colgate offered everyone the opportunity to recycle their products, their sales would go up!
