• Stop the repeal of animal welfare codes
Abandoning codes of practice for farm animal welfare is not in the best interests of the animals or those who will ultimately consume an animal raised in poorer conditions. The RSPCA said it has been voicing concerns for the past three years about the “downgrading” of the guidelines from statutory codes to industry-led guidance and criticised the lack of transparency around the process. The meat industry has had many scandals over the years and weakening regulations can only increase animal suffering and impact those consuming meat reared under poorer quality conditions.

  • SAVE THE CINEWORLD HAMMERSMITH
The Cineworld Hammersmith building was originally opened in 1934 as the Regal Cinema, and has since been operated by many chains, including ABC, Canon, Virgin, UGC, and Cineworld. This is the only cinema left in Hammersmith, and the most historic cinema operating in the area, with the devastating closure of the Art Deco Odeon Kensington. For some reason, this beautiful building is not listed, and so time and time again Developers are demolishing picture houses like this one in order to build luxury flats. This is the last thing West London needs. West London needs a cinema, and this is the perfect building to house it. At meetings and petitions residents have expressed no desire for this building to be demolished, yet Granger PLC and Helical Bar PLC, who, according to their website, 'create shareholder value through a wide variety of high margin activities with property investment at our core', seem to not care about the resident's requests, which makes this petition so necessary. I, alongside many other Hammersmith and Fulham residents, have many happy memories at this cinema over the years. It would be devastating for us to let it go without a fight. Please save the Cineworld Hammersmith

  • Chingford Keep our 15 minutes free parking
People need more than 5 minutes to shop and even buy a parking ticket. Our businesses benefit from 15 minutes free parking as it encourages people to use local shops and businesses. Neighbouring boroughs like Redbridge give their residents 30 minutes free parking. The council is proposing to increase the price of parking and to even more for paper vouchers than phone-to-pay.

  • Bring Back Reading Racers Speedway
Reading has been without a Speedway and Greyhound Stadium for nearly 8 years, following our forced ejection from Smallmead and the failure of Stadia UK to start the construction of a New Stadium, even though they had the full support of Reading Council and the Speedway supporter s of the Racers Club. Recently, there has been a groundswell of interest in resurrecting old Speedway clubs, in Cradley, Oxford, Exeter, and Weymouth for example. The "Reading Speedway Action Group" Committee, are looking to form a Supporters Trust and get aboard this bandwagon and have speedway once again in Reading and the Winged Wheel flying high. To achieve our aims we need YOU to sign this petition to show Reading Council that there is sufficient support for this project. The more that sign, the more leverage and empowerment we will hold. Please sign NOW and help bring back the Racers. It costs nothing except 5 minutes of your time. Follow us on Facebook "Reading Speedway Action Group". https://www.facebook.com/Reading-Speedway-Action-Group-490790471107024/?fref=ts

  • Improve hospital food country-wide
Most patients are in hospital due to lifestyle, so it is essential that provision of tasty basic real food, as recommended world-wide, is available at each meal to ensure quick recovery and release of patients with improved health guidance. After operations and treatments it is essential that the digestive tract work correctly, and this is best maintained by correct eating, rather than laxatives. Plenty of salads, vegetables, and vegetable soups with fruit and smoothies should be always available and encouraged. Pastries and cakes should not be available. Denatured white flour, sugar and salt should be replaced by oats, treacle and dried fruits etc.

  • Mike Ashley: Answer to Parliament
No one should be above the law. The mistreatment of workers at Sports Direct is a serious matter and I was glad to see Mike Ashley called into parliament to give evidence to Parliament about it. The fact he is refusing to go is outrageous, it shows how little he cares, and how much he has to hide. I have worked under a zero hours contract before as has my dad and I hope I never have to again. Zero hours contracts make workers feel powerless and puts all the power in the hands of their employer. Mike Ashley is abusing his power and abusing his workers' rights and he absolutely should answer to Parliament. Mike Ashley's arrogance over this matter is appalling. He treats his workers with contempt, now he's treating Parliament with contempt too. It's time he faced the music!

  • Ban gambling addiction machines from our high streets
Our high streets are being taken over by betting companies whose business model is to create and exploit gambling addictions. This isn’t about placing the odd bet on a football match or horse race. Bookies use their electronic gambling machines to filter out that casual crowd: they’re looking for people with the potential for a serious gambling addiction. Fixed-odds betting terminals feed a dependency just as powerful as drugs or alcohol. Their high speed games, with stakes as high as £100 every twenty seconds, mean you can easily lose a month’s wages in under an hour. Eventually you realise you’re not doing it for the money – you’re doing it because you’re physically addicted to the rush. I’ve lost numerous jobs because of electronic gambling. I’ve lost two properties through failure to keep up with mortage payments, I've amassed £100,000s in debt, I’m separated from my wife and children, and I’m trapped in a situation where I can’t rent accommodation because my credit score is so low and I haven’t enough money for a deposit. Now I’ve got special blocks on my computer that stop me straying onto a betting site – I even had to disable them to set up this petition. We can do something to change the tide of misery and reclaim our high streets. We can sign this petition.

  • Keep Darwen 3 Day Market Open
The Darwen 3 Day market plays a key part in the community of Darwen town centre. It provides a place for community to grow and for people to bond, it provides the livelihoods of dedicated and long-standing stall holders and local business people, it forms part of the story of Darwen and its people, and offers the potential for further growth and regeneration of this Lancashire town. The loss of this market, which is part of Darwen heritage, will deprive the community of a meeting place, traders of the businesses and loyalty they have worked hard for decades to develop and the town centre of another genre of commercial enterprise.

  • Make supermarkets hand over all unsold fruit and vegetables to hospitals
Good nutrition is essential to patients recovering in hospital. We believe that fruit and vegetables should be free to people in hospital. We are fully aware that the funding for such a idea is not there, however we are also aware that supermarkets throw away millions of pounds worth of perfectly healthy fresh fruit and vegetables every year and we want to stop this waste. We want supermarkets to deliver the fresh fruit and vegetables to local hospitals, where it will be available to patients. We want the hospital sweet trolley to be replaced by a free fruit trolley. Help us stop this waste and bring essential healing nutrition to the people that need it the most.

  • Replace Athena's wheelchair.
It's important to show that even giant companies need to have a conscience. British Airways has offered nowhere near enough compensation. It's costing Athena around £1500 a week in lost earnings and alternative care and transport costs - and it's been over a hundred days since her wheelchair was broken being loaded onto a BA flight at London City Airport. I don't know what their annual profit is, but they can well afford to make a humane gesture and replace her much needed wheelchair. Surely they would rather have positive publicity about this?

  • Remove monopoly for network distribution companies
We are about to start a new build and have spent a year negotiating with SSEPD for an electricity connection. Their prices changed constantly, they sent the wrong contract to the Wayleaves team (the team that sort out the permissions with landowners) and then said that it was going to cost more because the works team had discovered a problem with the planned works on the quote. They say they won't tell us what the extra cost will be until they have done the work! So we have no idea if or what they might be planning to charge us on top of the amount we have already paid based on their quote.
