Dishonest or poorly researched jounalism creates a distorted perception of events and people which is unhealthy for the society we live in. A proportionate retraction would go some way to addressing this by making readers more aware of this unfortunate practice.

I believe we need to ban the use of polystyrene used in packaging in the UK to ensure the health of our people and the planet. Currently, there is a campaign to stop micro beads but this needs to extend to polystyrene. A new report from the National Research Council in the US has upheld the listing of styrene as “reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen” in the National Toxicology Program’s 12th Report on Carcinogens (RoC). There is “convincing relevant information” in mechanistic studies that observed DNA damage in human cells that had been exposed to styrene. Not only is polystyrene toxic to humans, causing cancers, it pollutes the environment much like plastic. I have spent many days on beach cleans and have found these particles littered across the shore break. It breaks down into smaller particles which look like food, confusing fish and mammals, who then digest it. The polystyrene, after being digested by fish then ends up in our food chain. I've seen small children playing with this 'snow', I've seen the stomach lining of fish and birds littered with it. These are the fish that die from it, what of the fish that end up on our table? I call for the use of this substance in all packaging to be banned as a matter of urgency. Take away packaging litters our streets, it is extremely difficult to recycle, often ending up in land-fill and in our seas. There are numerous affordable cardboard, vegetable starch alternatives that break down in an environmentally friendly manner, easily preventing the pollution of our planet and our bodies. Please stand with me to ensure that this small, simple change is implemented by our government making a big difference to all of our lives.

Emergency food bank use is it some of it's highest levels. Trussel Trust remains at record high with over one million three-day emergency supply packages being given to people in 2015/16. This shows more and more people in the UK are going hungry. Currently there are tonnes of produce from supermarkets in the UK being wasted. By major supermarkets following Tesco's example and signing up to schemes that donate this surplus produce to those going hungry it will immensely help the ever-growing problem!

People who are looking to buy a new tumble dryer need to know about the poor after sales from the Whirlpool group of companies. Knowing but ignoring a potential fire hazard is appalling for such a long time. Millions of homes could be at risk from the dangerous tumble dryers. Whirlpool need to recall the faulty goods before it's too late. They say "product safety has always been our chief concern" It's time to prove it!

There are now many alternatives to test your products to make sure they're safe for use and do not pose a danger to consumers. Animals do not need to suffer for your products to pass their safety tests, get onto shelves or into consumers homes. Not only is animal testing unnecessary in the world we live in today, it's completely unethical and unimaginable that any human being could cause that amount of pain to a sentient being for the sake of cosmetics. It's important to rid of animal testing in cosmetic companies because it's unethical and unnecessary. It may also be important to know that in fact your sales could potentially rise. Veganism and activism against animal cruelty is growing every single day. Every vegan and every animal activist is a potential customer for cruelty free companies so this may be something to consider.

Barclays has a 97% stake in Third Energy - the company who want to frack North Yorkshire. One of Barclays values is to "find ways to positively impact all of the communities we interact with". The people of North Yorkshire don't want fracking! Third Energy are planning to build 950 wells over 19 sites which will have a seriously negative effect on health, climate, the local economy etc.

Many agency workers, especially in the haulage industry, are being used by companies as full time staff, but kept on the books as Agency employees, rather than taken on directly. This deprives the Agency worker of the same terms, conditions, and employment rights enjoyed by the directly employed colleagues they work along side. Saving employers enormous sums, and responsibilities. I would wish the offer of direct employment, be made mandatory, after an Agency worker remains with a company for more than three months. Exceeding this period would prove that there is a vacancy, and an employer is just trying to reduce costs, and responsibilities at the Agency workers expense.
