• Greater Manchester demands: make local democracy a top priority for real devolution!
The devolution deals in Greater Manchester have been done behind closed doors and local people cannot be confident that the new deals will work for them. For example, many healthcare professionals are very concerned about the impact on health services and social care in the region, with impending, severe cuts on the way to Council funding. But the 'northern powerhouse' revolution also has an opportunity to be an inspiration for cities all over the UK - if the devolution process takes place in a truly transparent and democratic way that delivers real social, environmental, economic and democratic benefits in the genuine best interests of the many. That is not what is currently happening and needs to change fast! If the new devolved powers are to work for the people of Greater Manchester, local people must be the drivers of devolution, not the passengers. It must be driven by the people, not by small cliques in central government and City Halls.

  • Stop the NDR at the airport
The construction of the Norwich Northern Distributor Road (NDR) from Postwick to Norwich Airport will cost over £133 million, with UK taxpayers funding £88 million via the Department for Transport. However local councils intend to spend at least a further £45 million of Norfolk taxpayers’ money to extend the road by 4 miles to the A1067 - a double-whammy for Norfolk residents. This at a time when budgets for the emergency services, health and social care, libraries, museums and education are being slashed. This is socially, financially and environmentally reckless. Please sign this petition to urge the council to put people before roads.

  • Protect Minor Injury unit
We need an improvement to this service and not for it to be downgraded any more, this is important because the population of the surrounding area takes in members of the public when they need the use of this service. We also demand the sexual health clinic be reinstated to New Addington as we have the biggest unplanned teenage pregnancy in London. So where is the logic in shutting the service then telling everyone to go to Croydon thus increasing the foot full to C U H.

  • Stop the closure of BHA Leeds Skyline
The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender (LGBT) and Black & Minority Ethnic (BME) communities who are also HIV+ are highly vulnerable communities suffering from multiple forms of stigma and oppression. Skyline offers a safe environment where these essentially invisible individuals can be supported holistically through a whole range of physio-psycho-social issues. Without this service they will be further isolated having to negotiate the trauma that is an HIV diagnosis, alone.

  • That the conservative and Unionist party pay for the policing of their conference in Manchester
The conservative party has repeatedly told us of the importance personal responsibility, of self-reliance and of fiscal responsibility. It is time to practice what they preach. They decided to hold the conference in an area that is seen as a heartland of trade union, the cooperative movement and left wing politics. It can only have been deliberate. For these reasons the people of Manchester should not be forced to pay the multimillion pound bill for this private event. If you go to a sporting event, the club pays; if you go see a band, the venue pays and by default those attending through the ticket price. This was a private ticketed event so those attending should pay. This is especially true at a time of such swinging cuts.

  • Support Parking Charges at the Victoria Embankment
Reducing the number of people parking on the embankment will help to reduce the number of cars passing through and make the area a safer more enjoyable place for people to enjoy. Many of those people parking in the area, abuse the facility simply to avoid parking charges faced elsewhere as part of their commute to work. The Victoria Embankment in Nottingham has been given to the citizens of Nottingham and the locality for their mental and physical health & well-being. This breathing space is one of the most beautiful spots in the city; an oasis of serenity where people can escape from the hustle and bustle of traffic, of noise and of everyday life. This highly protected Covenanted Land, which has been gifted to the City, should be a place for people to visit for relaxation, recreation and enjoyment rather than another built-up car park amongst the urban sprawl. The embankment hosts many amazing events including the Riverbank Festival, The Robin Hood Marathon, Cycle Live and the Caribbean carnival parade amongst many others. These fantastic events are enjoyed by thousands of people from all over the region and demonstrate just how beneficial a space such as this can be when cars are no longer the number one priority. The benefits to mental and physical health, the bringing together of communities and the knock on economic effects are incalculable. The City Council has invested millions in a new tram route, has an award winning bus network, provides excellent park and ride facilities, as well as an accessible cycle hire scheme which has been free throughout the summer. Despite continued investment in sustainable and active travel options, many people still choose to use cars to travel into work and to destinations like this despite the financial burden, inconvenience caused by traffic congestion and knock effects to their health – not to mention issues with localised air pollution and greenhouse gases. The city council cannot rely on incentives along and has to crack down on those individuals who abuse local facilities, which are there to be enjoyed by local residents and people.

  • BBC WORKING FOR NHS
The NHS will soon be on its knees. By having the BBC work for the NHS it will help boost the budget of the service that needs to be top of our preservation and improvement list. I am deliberately making this is a brief note because the simple ideas are the best and I do not want to be watering it down by long-winded explanations. In short, get the BBC working for the NHS.

  • Recycle all plastics in Westminster Council, London
With the vast amount of people and business that goes on in London, ensuring the minimum amount of waste ends up in landfill should be a top priority! Making it easy for residents and businesses to recycle something as basic as plastic is a fundamental part of that. If other councils like Greenwich can recycle a large range of mixed recycling why can't Westminster?

  • Save The Ordnance Survey (Our Maps)
High quality unbiased maps of the UK are essential and as such they should be kept free of particular commercial interests. I have used Ordnance Survey Maps all my life. The Survey has a long and distinguished history in the public sector and has led the world in map making survey techniques and cartography. This gem should not be debased nor should the availability of different scales of map be solely dependent on profit.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ordnance_Survey

  • Show your hand and say #Icare to stop the social care crisis
The problem Care affects all of us. Everyone knows someone- a family member or neighbour or child - who needs care and support to live a full life Social care is organised by Local Government. Central government cuts have resulted in a 31% cut to adult social care in the last 5 years, this is in excess of £4.5 billion worth of care . Half a million older and disabled people who would have received social care five years ago now receive no local support . Big decisions about how the future of social care could be sustainably funded are being kicked into the long grass: manifesto commitments for 2015 have already been moved to 2020 and beyond . The cuts don’t just hurt people who need care and support to live a full life, though. They also: - Prevent many people who work in care from earning a fair or living wage - Make it harder for organisations that provide care to survive; many have gone out of business - Add pressure to an already pressured NHS when support can’t be provided to people who should be able to remain in their homes - Makes life tougher for family members who provide care for loved ones - Create social isolation, poorer mental health and inequality - Stop people having the right to live independently and take control of their own lives - Mean more and more people end up paying for their own care; those who can’t afford it often go without. The opportunity On the 25th of November the government will publish a Comprehensive Spending Review that will have a major impact on the future funding of social care. We think a lot of people don’t know about the scale of this care crisis or the impact it has on society as a whole. We also think that a lot of people would care if they knew more about it. We therefore need your help. We want government to know that people care about care. If you think care should be properly funded and improve people’s lives and the local communities we all live in, please simply write the words “I Care” on your hand and take a photo. You can share your image and thoughts with us on Twitter @UkCareCrisis or the social media platform of your choosing using #ICare. Please also sign this petition asking the government to debate and take urgent action to stop the Care Crisis. Or, of course, you can do all of the above. If you know others who care about care please tell them about #ICare. We know lots of people are very anxious and care deeply about the future of social care. This is our chance to show we all care about care. Thanks for your time.

  • Perfume in Hospitals and the Workplace
Its very important in hospitals as a patient is confined... Perfumes can cause damage to all with compromised immune systems and especially MCS Multiple Chemical Sensitivities sufferers.. This is an unrecognised illness by many, even doctors who dont know enough about this condition, but its on the increase and causes so many terrible symptoms. Asthma too is made worse by perfumed products.... perfumes cover cleaners too used in hospitals and it would be so easy for them to change to Bio products.. Offices and the workplace too should be perfume free, includiing shops ... People should be also made aware of what exactly is in cleaners, polishes, perfumes , air fresheners etc. and this is the governments that have to make a stand and do something.. Some countries are taking this seriously and have perfume bans now so why not Scotland.. Lead the way in the UK for a healthier place to live....Please support this.

  • No Support for British Expats in Thailand
The Consul in Chiang Mai, Thailand was recently closed. There is a sizable British community in and around Chiang Mai numbering thousands and we get no support. I recently renewed my son's passport and had to travel to Bangkok twice - once to apply for and once to collect it. It cost me £336.50 in air fares and hotel bills on top of the £72 for the passport itself and it can take up to 6 weeks. In contrast, my wife is Japanese; she applied at the local consulate and got a new passport in less than a week. In my capacity as a volunteer policeman I recently helped a German national whose passport was stolen. She had a replacement within 10 days. I have written to my MP and was initially ignored, so I wrote to the Home Secretary about the costs involved in getting a new passport and the Foreign Secretary about the abysmal level of service abroad. Neither has replied, instead delegating a response to a member of the British Consulate in Bangkok. This lady has not answered ANY of the questions I asked and instead wrote a lot of gobbledegook tripe about how centralizing services was giving better services. It is, of course, rubbish and the key points: cost and inconvenience were not even mentioned.
