• Safe route to school
Our children should have a safe route to access their secondary school. Blaby district council see the current Road as safe for our children to walk or cycle down during busy periods. What will it take for this to change? death of a child? This not only saves parents pockets, this also heightens our childrens health as they have a more active lifestyle of getting to and from school. Walking down a grass verge is not safe. A footpath needs to be implemented.

  • Brighouse Train Station parking facilities & disrepair of Rastrick roads
Residential parking is increasingly becoming unavailable and unmanageable along Gooder Lane and the surrounding residential streets due to a lack of parking facilities at Brighouse train station. Rastrick has a high density of residential properties, which already makes the possibilty of parking limited. The lack of parking facilities at Brighouse train station means that rail commuters are having to find parking elsewhere, namely on neighbouring residential streets, making residents unable to park anywhere near their own home. As Rastrick & Brighouse Councillors, we have lobbyed the Council for a number of years to look, in partnership with the other stakeholders (e.g. WY Combined Authority), at this situation, to no avail. The situation needs an holistic approach exploring all veasible options and solutions to avoid displacing the problem on to other streets in the area. However, simply put, we need more parking facilities at Brighouse Train Station. Gooder Lane is a regularly used highway by residents, railway users, businesses (both shops and industrial companies), HGVs, and day to day commuters. This road, and many of the 'offshoot' residential streets (Bridge End in particular) are very poorly maintained, and have been for years, meaning that many drivers avoid using this road and instead use another route which causes congestion on other main roads. These roads need to be properly assessed and dressed. As Councillors, we are continually told that assessments will take place but, to date, none have taken place and no action has been taken to address this problem.

  • National curriculum Inc. Mental health
1 in 3 of us will suffer with a mental health issue in our lives. Whether it be depression, eating disorders, body dismorphia, suicidal feelings or stuggling to cope with life on a daily basis, yet we are not given any advice or lessons in schools to learn coping strategies or how to spot an issue and help others. We have sex education, but not education on how to cope with a relationship break up, we learn about nutrition, but not about how to spot someone who is abusing themselves with food. We need to teach our children how to cope if they or their friends, family need help.

  • Road Crossings Upper Plumstead
The pedestrian crossings need urgent review in Plumstead. There are limited, inadequate and in some places non-existent safety measures in place for pedestrians to cross very dangerous roads. As an example Swingate Lane, Garland Road (by the slade), Kings Highway to name just a few. This is an urgent request to review road safety as a priority. Many very dangerous roads are located near primary schools which the council provides lolipop people however this is not adequate for the residents and elderly who need to cross these roads every day. Some of our aging and frail residents prefer not leave home due to fear of the roads.

  • A Place of Sanctuary - Right Care, Right Time, Right Place
What’s the problem? Nationally, mental health services are in crisis. Southwark Pensioners Action Group (SPAG) supports the campaign to open a Place of Sanctuary at the Maudsley Hospital, Denmark Hill site.  Kings A&E feels like an awful place to be if you are having a mental health crisis because in a busy, hectic sometimes aggressive reception area alongside those with broken limbs or other physical trauma.  It’s feels even worse if you are a child, a young person, a pregnant woman or a mum with a baby  60% of young people turning up in crisis are not known to mental health services for children and young people  The significant increase in knife crime since January 2018 means Kings A&E is under huge pressure What do we want?  A 24 hour walk-in Place of Sanctuary at the Maudsley Hospital Denmark Hill site for those in mental health crisis.  Especially for Children and Young People, and Pregnant Women, Mothers with Babies in mental health crisis  Mental health money must reach the frontline  No more cuts to Children and Young Peoples’ mental health services in or out of hospital Why?  Kings A&E is not a Place of Sanctuary for people who need emergency mental health treatment  Excellent crisis care saves lives  Our children, pregnant mums and mothers with young babies deserve far better emergency mental health services What time is it??  It’s TIME for the South London and Maudesley Hospital Trust to step up  It’s TIME for the Trust to provide a 24 hour walk in Place of Sanctuary at Denmark Hill  It’s TIME for the Trust to pull its weight for those in mental health crisis Who can do it?  You can by signing this petition 

  • Stop financially penalising disabled parents
The children are required to buy a ticket simply because the parent is entitled to a government bus pass (offering free travel for the parent with some reimbursement for the bus company from the government for it's use) due to their disability. There are strict criteria to get a pass and it is supposed to be part of opening up opportunity for those living with disability. If the parent is simply having to pay a child fare instead of their own there is only a 30% reduction in cost instead of the 100% policy intended. It is discriminatory to be charging disabled parents a fare that a parent with no disability would not have to pay. It risks isolating disabled people further and marginalising their children who often already have many disadvantages in life. I am only able to work part time due to my health needs so we along with many others have financial difficulties as a family. Many people with disability depend upon the buses far more than those who are able bodied as they may be unable to safely drive or be mobile over short distances. I myself am dependent upon bus use to get to the shops to buy food, get to GP and hospital appointments as well as taking my daughter to baby and toddler groups. My daughter is an integral part of my life, I have very little support to care for her and I am scared that a reduction in my ability to be mobile due to unfair charges will impact on the life I am able to offer her.

  • Funding for Leahurst Road Preschool
Leahurst Road Preschool is largely funded by charitable donations, so the improvements needed cannot happen without support from external funding, such as the Local Improvement Scheme. The funds applied for were in part to pay for access to speech therapy within the preschool setting. For some children this is vital developmental support to ensure a confident and worry-free start to school. A separate application was made for a covered area outside to enable our children to play and learn outside in all weather. Being outdoors promotes a healthy and active lifestyle, and exposes the children to nature and the world around them. Many children learn best through active movement, but this is limited in the winter months particularly without access to a covered play area.

  • Pay at pump fuel stations
It gives a message on the pump to pay at kiosk yet are unmanned at night. Please allow this option to pay for fuel as some people do not have £99 in their account every day of the week. To see this problem look at forecourt CCTV and see how many customers are driving to work on empty without getting the required fuel, hospital workers, night shift workers or college students trying to go to their families at the weekend or even your son or daughter who may not have a big budget. These groups of people could end up on the motorway without fuel. This system is about prevention of fraud yet there is CCTV and numberplate recognition. When you put your card & pin number full bank account details you are giving authority for the debit of the money from your account. If you had no intention to pay this would be surely classed as fraud with CCTV. The £99 money is held back so you cannot buy more fuel from anywhere else. A prime example would be if you put £10 of fuel in over the weekend period and you only had £100 in your account you could not put another £20 in your tank and would then become stranded and vulnerable.

  • Re-Development for Stallards Skate Park in Trowbridge
The young people of Trowbridge have moved forward over the last 10 years, as has scootering and skating in general, the park is not accessible to new riders as it is an extreme park and their is no information on the outside of the park to explain the safety aspect to the users of parents. The park has a lot of additional areas that could be easily developed to incorporate a better space for young people and help them from using streets to preform their tricks to increase their ability. The skate Park in Trowbridge is well used and with better facilities to a growing number of young people could be increased further.

  • N.H.S HOSPITAL CAR PARKING CHARGES
This issue was brought up at my local Patient Practice Group of which I am Chairman. There were quite a number of instances reported by the committee who support this action unanimously. The following are two of my own experiences. 1. In December, 2017 I took my sister-in-law to Sunderland Hospital. She was unable to walk and there was no ambulance available. I parked at the accident & emergency and with my wife I got her out of the car and into a wheelchair. My wife pushed her into the hospital whilst I reversed my cat into a disabled parking bay. several days later I received a £70 fine Parking notice 2. In February 2018 i took my wife for a scan to North tees Hospital. After I dropped her off I parked my car and went to the parking meter. Unlike Sunderland their was a fee chargeable for disabled drivers. The first 20 minutes parking was free but after that there was a charge which if not paid was subject to a £90 fine. It is impossible to be able to assess that my wife would be able to receive her treatment within 20 minutes. I decided to pay for the parking. The cost was £3 for the first hour as well as for the next 11 hours. As it happened my wife did not have to wait and she had her scan and returned to the car. We were parked for exactly 26 minutes. I had paid the 12 hour fee for 6 minutes. I also was inconvenienced as I had no change and the meter did not take notes or give change. I had to go back into the hospital for change for the parking meter.
