• Traffic calming in Woodmansterne
Letter sent to MP: I write to you requesting your urgent attention on the untenable traffic situation in Carshalton Road which is becoming virtually impossible to access my stables without fear of accident. We raised this issue in 2010, yet it was deemed not dangerous enough to warrant action given that nobody had been killed. This I found to be completely unacceptable and I have had no other option than taking this matter further again giving how significantly worse the situation has become. To ignore it, and literally wait for an accident to happen would be neglectful and irresponisble. I do not wish to have it on my conscience that I had not done all that I could to protect the safety of myself, my animals and others should a serious accident occur. I would therefore strongly urge you to challenge the previous response I received and argue that nobody should have to die unnecessarily on this road before action is taken. Cars and Lorries consistently exceed speed limits and do not adhere to legal Highway Code requirements by giving no consideration to riders, pedestrians, animals or other traffic. In the past month one of my horses, whilst being ridden by myself, was hit by a car yet the driver did not stop and just continued to drive. Fortunately my horse was fine but I fell and had significant bruising to my thigh and my GP told me that I was lucky not to have been seriously injured. Within the same week, I also witnessed on one occassion school children almost being knocked over, despite them wearing high visibility jackets and being carefully escorted by their school teacher. These are not an isolated incidents and in fact dangerous driving has now become the norm. Other tenants at my stables have been forced to relocate their animals as they can no longer tolerate the situation. They and myself, sadly now feel unable to take our horses out for a ride and enjoy the beautiful green belt that we are fortunate to have on our doorstep, for fear of being killed. My view is shared by many other residents, land owners and tenants on Carshalton Road and we all feel that we are being left vulnerable and in grave danger. I would be extremely grateful for a response and advice as to how we can resolve this dangerous situation. You and your colleagues would be more than welcome to visit my stables and witness the situation for yourselves should you require it. Looking forward to receiving your response. King regards, Miss Jacqueline Cooksey

  • Dredge the River Tyne
If the continuing build up of sediment continues and annual rainfall increases it is only a matter of time till more major flooding takes place along the banks of the River Tyne and more subsidence occurs, if dredging could be done it would create jobs as well as create leisure opportunities on the river with a more free flowing river.

  • Stop Fracking In Scotland
I believe that fracking has highly potential health risks and can lead to contaminated water courses and soils. It can also lead to birth defects in children due to the chemical used in fracking up to 200 at the least.

  • Residents parking scheme in Carnforth
Over a number of years the air quality, road safety and quality of life have been negatively effected by the ever increasing traffic flow and visitor numbers to this lovely part of England. Unfortunately, due to Carnforth being on the border of Cumbria and having a relatively small populous, the needs of the residents have been overlooked for a number of years. The need for a residents parking scheme has been proven, but Lancashire County Council constantly push those residents that have been asking for a scheme on a merry-go-round of being fobbed off and quoted that other areas are more important.

  • SAVE THE ALDERMAN WRAITH SCHOOL
Because the old school is an important part of Spennymoor's heritage, lots the inhabitants of County Durham were schooled there, it should be a listed building and is certainly a heritage building, it has been left without maintainance probably on purpose to run the building down. It was used as recently as last year for a production of George Gently. It has a large school field attached to it that could well be used for outdoor sports and certainly a running track or rubgy pitch or both, the whole area is short of play areas for children at this end of Spennymoor so all the land could be put to good use, rather than more houses I think we have done our bit for the government/council as far as new houses are concerned.

  • SAVE THE ALDERMAN WRAITH SCHOOL
Because the old school is part of our heritage there are people in County Durham whose careers were started in this school, the building has been left without maintenance for a number of years, this is a grand old building and could be put to better use as a Youth Club there are lots of rooms which could be used for various projects, the huge school field could be used as a running track for budding athletes, there is enough room for a rubgy/football/cricket pitches, the children at this end of Spennymoor are lacking playing areas. I think Spennymoor has more than done their bit with regards to houses, the government/county council should now be looking elsewhere for spare land to build more houses, we are inundated and don't need more. The building was used recently for a BBC1 production of George Gentley and there must be other uses to numerous to mention here where the old school could be used.

  • SAVE 55 BROADWAY
55 Broadway is London’s first skyscraper and part of British heritage. TFL has just revealed its proposed residential re-design of the iconic Grade 1 Listed building. If allowed to proceed, TFL will take a Grade 1 listed public body building into multiple private ownership (of apartments) and therefore out of public access. In a shocking show of greed, TFL even proposes to construct concrete newbuilds to obliterate the historic garden terraces on the 10th floor . These gardens famously offer impressive views from the unique location of the building, significantly positioned by TFL’s visionary leader Frank Pick to be midway between Buckingham Palace and the Houses of Parliament. One of the gardens was even dedicated in honour of an early environmental campaigner associated with TFL. The form and proportions of the original building and Charles Holden’s vision will be damaged irreparably. It is obvious that if the original architect considered it aesthetic and safe, the extra floor would already exist instead of the gardens. Funded by tax-payers, TFL calls itself a ‘custodian’ of London property. What kind of custodian except one acting in breach of duty and good faith will pursue cynical financial gain at the expense of history and our legacy? It must also be a matter of concern whether the rest of the building from the 1920s, is best preserved by a new construction on its wings. TFL is trying to sell off one of our most important heritage assets designed by Charles Holden as apartments to the rich. What next – the Houses of Parliament? Reckless renovation of our heritage for unsuitable use as multi-unit luxury apartments will destroy the soul of our city. TFL is supposed to connect and unite the city. How does it reconcile its ethos and reason for existence with converting its iconic HQ – our heritage as much as theirs - into private apartments for the rich? How does this ‘benefit the city’ (TFL’s own words) and tax-payers?

  • No to another Crossing In Dartford Kent
The Original Consultation Paper was not promoted out to the people in the locality broadly enough, as with recent Consultations for example Paramount Plans - a letter went to every household. Talking to local people who will be most affected by this decision, majority were unaware that a Consultation even took place. Removing the Toll booths may speed up the traffic and obviously continue to generate the relevant financial return but more traffic will be driven into this already over-congested area. If this decision relies solely on cost we know that Dartford will be the area as the infrastructure is there and this will save the Government millions. This is unfair and in a way inhumane to continue to over-pollute an area already polluted. I do not believe any research was conducted with regard to air quality.

  • stop developers taking the michael
Little Cransley is a small hamlet with just 7 residents. since the houses first being built the road out the front of the properties has only gotten busier and busier which is understandable and acceptable being a main route between Kettering and Northampton, the a 14 to the side of the properties is currently being widened which only leaves the land at the rear of the homes being of a country side status. Now St Francis group intend to and have been granted permission to develop the land and sell it off as offices workshops and among other things (the worst part) a hotel at the foot of the gardens, this really is taking the Michael and will turn what is over a hundred year old hamlet in to a miserable place to live in the shadow of big developments, noise, pollution as well as being over looked and that's not to mention what this will do to the value of the once country side homes

  • Stop piracy in the planning process
At the moment the law favours developers, who can cast doubt on boundaries and have the resources to pursue such claims. Planners rely on a prescriptive set of measurements and rules which limit their ability to make ethical judgements. Councillors equally err in favour of planners to avoid expensive litigation. Neighbours who are unable to fund a challenge are easily disregarded. Currently planning applications are being passed despite boundary disputes, causing immense distress to residents in neighbouring properties who can object but are told by planning officers that there is no requirement for applicants to demonstrate ownership of land being developed.

  • Save Doseley Wildlife Habitat
The area is one of abundance wildlife and varied plant life and wild flowers. It holds a huge population from shrews to badgers. Aquatic life, songbirds, grass snakes, slow worms, common lizards, adders, it is regularly used by members of the local community and walkers. There is a public right of way/footpath which it seems developers want to incorporate into their site, the pathway existed in 1840 for certain and possibly before. This area also forms part of the Dawley Heritage trail. Road access is poor as is street lighting and it would create a significant hazard having the entrance impede the junction with an historic railway bridge which is currently suffering from vehicle strikes even now.
